Good Intentions…

HI!  I’m back.  Florida sun, sleeping in, going out to eat for every meal…be gone!  Back to reality for me.  I just walked in, and I have about 37 loads of laundry to do.  Until I get back on track, I thought I’d let you see how to spend the perfect afternoon alone in Florida.

Step 1:  Pack yourself a goody bag.  By goodies, I mean some good music, something sweet to eat, and (of course) a celebrity magazine to be read cover to cover with NO interruptions!

Step 2:  Sit in a chair that allows you to take full advantage of the view of your new pedicure.  You know…the one you’ve been needing for 6 months.

Step 3:  Speaking of views, make sure it’s something like this.

If you turn your head just slightly, it’s ok.  Your view will still look like this.

Step 4:  (Perhaps the most important)  Lay back and enjoy the sounds around you.  Notice that those sounds do NOT include, “Mom, I’m hungry.  What food did you bring?”  “Mom, will you throw me in the water some more?”  “Mom, she won’t share her shovel!”  Basically, drown out anything you hear that remotely sounds like “Mom…”

Final step?  Take a shower, feel a bit of a hot sensation coming from your skin, take a look in the mirror, and scream at the horror!  (Believe me, that wasn’t the worst of it.) Then douse yourself in aloe and ibuprofen for the next three days.  Rinse and repeat.

  2. Yikes! That does not look fun. I have no doubt it was well worth it, though. Looks very relaxing!

  7. Wow, hope you are feeling better from the sunburn! Glad you enjoyed your trip. I'll be at the FL beaches in less than 2 wks, and I can't wait!

Where specifically did you go, if I may ask?

  9. You have a BAD sunburn! Those first nights after it happens are pure torture.

I sunburned my feet really bad a few years ago. I put sunscreen on everywhere except my feet. I was only out for 30 minutes.

When I got back home, a nurse said I was so close to having sun poisoning.

  10. Such beautiful pictures! I am so jealous! I hope the pain from your sunburn has gone away, no fun but completely worth it!

  11. Oh, you lured me in with your talk of no kids, sweet snacks, beautiful views and People magazine! Never saw that sunburn coming! SO sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  12. OMG, yup! Everytime I go to Florida I crisp up like that too! Funny, I lived in Southern California for YEARS and never burnt once!

  13. Ouch! Thank God for ibuprofen and aloe!

Okay, the sunburn part doesn't sound too great--but the rest of that sounds heavenly. I'm a little jealous, but I'm happy for a sister to have a break like that.

But man oh man am I glad you're home! I've missed your wonderful posts. Maybe you could do a tutorial on how to catch up on the laundry. . . .

  14. OUCH!!! Been there...done that! And the crazy thing is, I go right back out there, maybe "partially" under an umbrella and sunscreen on the really bad part!

We are leaving for Panama City Wednesday and I can't wait!! I have no doubt I will have the same tan lines!!

    Glad you had fun!

  15. Try some Bactaine (sp?) spray on the sunburn. It's over the counter and will numb the pain a little. We just got back from a family vacation to the beaches in SC and found plenty of sunburns to go around. The spray is great because you don't have to rub it in. Temporary fix, but it should help.

  16. The ouchie sunburn (& 37 loads of laundry) aside, this sounds like HEAVEN!!

  17. Oh, you poor thing! I've been there with the burn. Hope you feel better. But you probably admit that even THIS is worth a few moments of no "MAMA!" peace.

  18. Girl, I feel your pain! Seriously. I do. I got the same amount of sun this weekend. Try mixing equal parts water and vinegar and put in a spray bottle and use on the burn. The smell goes away as it dries, but the vinegar pulls the heat out. Good luck!

  19. Yikes!!! Let's hope that nasty burn turns into a gorgeous tan. Good luck with the laundry. Ick to reality.

  20. uh oh....good ole Florida can do some damage to Michigan skin...YIKES! Where, prey tell, were you? Atlantic or the gulf?

  21. Memo for next time: Toss sunscreen in bag next to People magazine! : ) Can't wait to hit the beach next month too! I could almost smell and hear the ocean from your pics.

  22. Ohhhh, I feel for you! That pic, with blond hair, would be me...every time I go to the beach! I'm with Chelsey on the Bactaine, (sp?)it's wonderful! We're headed to Orlando in 6 days. I doubt I'll get much beach time, but will still get the Florida sun. (Thanks for the reminder to apply SPF 500!!!) Hope the burn goes away soon!!!

  23. Missed you Just a Girl!! Glad that you had an enjoyable vacation. I just got home from Virginia Beach with a similar sunburn..now I am totally peeling!!! ugh.

  24. Ouch!!! :( So sorry about the burn, but at least you had a few treats while out in the sun... pepperridge farm cookies and good reading... now, that's the sweet life! :) You have a really cute blog!!!! I grabbed your button!

  25. Next time, you should add sunscreen to your bag of goodies. Hope you're feeling better!

  26. I notice that your goody bag didn't include sunscreen. Tisk tisk darlin! Although, I have to admit that I've been lobster red more times than I care to admit. Asprin works better than ibuprofen for future reference. Noxema feels wonderful as well. Glad you had fun in spite of the burn baby burn!

  27. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. OUCH!!! That looks painful! Other than the sunburn it does look relaxing.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! The price one pays for relaxation :(

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, that hurts so much just to look at!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ouch, girlfriend! I know you've heard of sunscreen. :) Hope the pain is going away by now. I hate when that happens.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh no...not good! Nothing like a bad sunburn to put a damper on your vacation. It looks like you had a good time despite the pain though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thank you for the warning. I am headed off to Florida soon and want to avoid the lobster look. :)

  34. That's a perfect day except for the sunburn. I don't burn so I can stay out on the beach until the sun goes down...and I do!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Those cookies look good! Until your last photo, I was thinking I could have taken the exact pictures last weekend, except your feet are prettier than mine. Yes, this sun is hot!!! I hope you are feeling better.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm right there with you. The only difference is that your sun probably goes in and you get a great tan afterwards, whereas mine freckles and fades as fast as it appeared! I do love some relaxing at the beach. We're heading there next week.

  37. Oh I am so so sorry for your burn! There is a product on the market (Walmart) that I swear works miracles!! It is called Ocean Potion Ice and it is blue. My husband had terrible burns on his face last year and did not even peel when using this. Our doctor even inquired about it, it was that good.
I hope that you are feeling better soon.
    Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne

  40. Ouch, I hope you're all better now. Looks like you had a wonderful trip and got some much needed rest.

  41. Awww man! Sunburns are not fun! Hope you had a good time though:)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh my goodness! Girl you needed some shade or sunscreen! I will remember that when we head down there! Glad you had some fun~

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lawdy missy - you look like a lobster! :( You need a big ol' floppy hat to keep the sun off your shoulders!

    Sounds fantastic otherwise!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!! I can't believe you got such a bad burn!!! Ouch! Otherwise, sounds like a relaxing vacation.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ouch! I always take Ocean Potion with me to the beach. I keep it in a cooler so it's cool when I put it on. It's a mixture of aloe and lidocaine. It is the best thing ever!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ouchy!!! Sounds like you at least had some fun BEFORE the sunburn part. Oh, that beach looks so inviting.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Welcome back - but owweee -- that sunburn. I'm sorry! Good luck getting back on top of everything. I really think there needs to be an "after vacation transition period" - still without kids, etc. so mom's can catch up on all that was left waiting for them while they were gone! :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ouch!! Glad you got some alone time and hope that sunburn is gone by now!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hahaha! Sounds perfect!! I looked like that after one day in Florida this year too. :)

    Those mailboxes were cool!

  50. I am sorry about the sunburn. I live in South Florida and I never go to the beach between May-November. Way too hot. I try to stay indoors as much as possible. I love the white sand on the places you visited.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm so jealous... I wanna go to the beach too! Though I doubt I can get any sunburn (which is a good thing, I assume, from what I just saw, LOL)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh girl, I was thinkin' your feet looked red... I hope you are feeling okay!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love this post! Very funny!

I hope you are recovering from that sunburn.

  54. I have lived in Florida 41 years...slather SPF 40 BEFORE you go out in the sun, honey! Big hat or a visor, please! yep, dark sunglasses, too!
I know you had a good time, loved your items in the goody bag!! I know how relaxing the beach can be, I go every day unless it rains!
