I had to. I love Matt Damon. And Goodwill. Anyway…I stopped in this week. I almost didn’t. You know what that means, don’t you? That’s when you find the best things.
I’m redoing my guest bedroom, and I’ve been scouring Craigslist for a cute, round table. The cheapest one I could find was $30.00. Shows you how cheap I am if I didn’t buy any. Well…what about this little nugget?
She had a leg that was about to come off, and her top was allll scratched up. Poor thing. ($14.99 if you can’t tell from the pic.)
So, I sanded her top down. (I just giggled. I have the maturity of a 10-year old.) I had some stain just sitting around, and I gave her a new finish. As for the leg? Nothing a little wood glue and a rubber mallet won’t take care of!
That lamp is totally checking her out!
Some temporary accessories. Yes, Gayle…can you find the tissue box?
And she’s temporarily housed in my den until the guest bedroom is finished. For now…she seems to like her new home and all the attention she’s getting!
My point to this post? I don’t know that I’ll ever buy furniture at a furniture store AGAIN.
Agh! That's my table! Ok, not really. But I have been looking for something JUST LIKE THAT to go between those two chairs I reupholstered in my living room. But the cheapness thing has got me too. Maybe I'll have to hit Goodwill now that the kids will be back in school. She's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGEORGOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteWe just got a GoodWill in our little town and I am soooo loving it!!
Isn't is awesome what a little tlc will do?! Great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job pn the table. Its way cute.
ReplyDeleteI am having my first giveaway. check it out.
I agree with you! Going into any "furniture" type store, even Target seems so overpriced! I love your blog by the way! Keep em coming!
ReplyDeleteIt's ok, I giggled when you said you sanded down her top too! I'm right there with ya on the maturity.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes...that lamp is totally checking her out! Great job.

I am just starting to discover the benefits of Goodwill and I think I am on my way to being a life-long Goodwiller. Nice work! Looks great.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!!love the table. even better when you can pick it up at that price, wow!!
ReplyDeleteCheers
vicki
Wow! I need to go with you to these good will stores!
ReplyDeleteGreat find. We were just talking about finding a little table just like this for our tiny front entryway.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table....I think the mate to it is sitting in my garage waiting for some loving care.
ReplyDeleteGreat find! I love Goodwill.
ReplyDeleteWell she was certainly a beauty iding under that 14.99 sticker!
ReplyDeleteI love this table! Can you tell me, step by step, what you did to the top. I've got the part about sanding. :) But then you just brushed on stain? Wiped it off? How did you do it? It looks so even and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about retail furniture. It's just sickening to think what you could have paid for that table in a furniture store. And who would want to read your post "Furniture Store Shopping"? No cool reference to Matt Damon at all; where's the fun in that?
Again - absolutely amazing! Love it.
ReplyDeleteYou really scored with this one. She looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week.

Awesome! From the look of the grain on the table, it was no shoddy piece. You did a great job. Happy Hunting!
ReplyDeleteMental note - "must check out Goodwill." I spent close to $30 on one of those darn particle board tables, glass top and a cloth at Walmart Saturday. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteGreat find!
ReplyDeleteI feel ya! With beautiful finds like that, why would anyone pay retail prices? I won't one up you about the little pub table I found for $5 at a yard sale. Oh, did I mention it's Ethan Allen?
ReplyDeleteStunning piece!!
ReplyDelete::giggle snort:: you said "sanded her top down". We are such (mature)kindred spirits.
Great job. She looks just beautiful. That was probably an expensive table at one time.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome find!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I am like you...I am on the hunt for a china cabinet and I will not get one from a furniture store...they are way to pricy and oh not made good at all.
ReplyDeletehaha! it's addicting!
ReplyDeletecongrats on an awesome find!!!
Great find, Chris! The new stain did the job, and it does look lovely where it is now. Will it make it to the guest room? : )
ReplyDeleteYou truly are my decorating hero. I've been reading your blogs for months and this entry has brought me out of lurkdom.
ReplyDeleteYour style is so how I want my house to look, but I'm not the only one living here and I am in the position that I must consider others when I do what I do - sad but true.
Thank you for letting me live vicariously through your decorating and crafting. I have such fun!
It looks great! I have a table that needs a home. I'm inspired.
ReplyDeleteAnd with finds like that, why should you go back to the store, Chris?! My sentiments exactly. That's a beautiful find, love how it turned out.
ReplyDeleteAwesomeness! I have to wonder why everyone else's Goodwill is sooooo much cheaper than ours...? Hm. Jealous.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris:
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the exact same thing as you the other day: I would never buy a new furniture ever again.
Love your new table!
Can I say...Beautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!! What a great find. The piano that sold was picked up yesterday and I put the TJ MAX table where the piano was. I thought $60 for mine was a steel. Now look at your find....Whatever you did to that table sure was good. It looks soooooooo expensive. Just think, it will be in my (guestroom) room. Too exciting. Great job.
ReplyDeleteMom
Wow ~~ Amazing transformation!!
ReplyDeleteI can so relate with not ever buying full priced furniture ever again. Now that I thrift and craigslist shop, I have to ask myself why in the world I ever bought furniture any other way. Love what you did with the side table.
ReplyDeleteShut UP! I would have tackled you to try and beat you to that table. I've been looking for a round pedestal table for ages. $15 is a steal!
ReplyDeleteI think that's at least the 2nd time that I said I would try to tackle you for one of your finds. I think I have an anger management problem. :)

Looks beautiful. I love the stained finish. That was $15 well spent.

Don't you just love Goodwill? What an awesome find. You did a beautiful job staining it. It looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI'm with ya Chris, I can't imagine a reason to buy from the furniture store! Great find, I Love your "new" table.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shopping girl!! I know, once you start getting bargains it's REALLY hard to look at the expensive items. Great find.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...I don't know that I'll ever pay retail for furniture again. And as for Goodwill, I was just thinking today that I need to get up earlier than my kids and sneak out tomorrow morning to Goodwill and Salvation Army. I am having slight withdrawal.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the table!!!
Great job on the table! I live close to a great Goodwill, but they make us bid on cute stuff like the table!
ReplyDeleteTruly you are one talented girl! Thanks for your inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to with all the great finds you find! :)
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to with all the great finds you find! :)
ReplyDeleteWow - I am inspired to not buy furniture new again!! Okay - so what grade sandpaper did you use? Stain - any particular type/brand? I would love to see a video tutorial from you - that would be awesome! Any other tips would be great - I really want to try this, but I'm scared I'll mess up - you are helping me to change LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love your table. I just found an end table at Salvation Army with scratches on the top. I've debated sanding down just the top but I'm worried that the stain on the sanded top won't match the legs. I'm curious to know how well yours matches or what you did about that?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Sylvia
oh no. i have to stop reading. i've been so good and stayed out of goodwill for MONTHS. this table of yours may push me over the edge. it's FANTASTIC!!
