Mantle Madness!

Well, I forewarned you. Halloween decorating is. on. It was a chilly, windy, rainy day today (actually it was all those plus sunny, cloudy, and warm--it's Michigan, what do you expect?). Anywho, what better atmosphere than that to start decorating for the day to eat my kids' candy...err...Halloween? Our fireplace is pretty much the focal point of our house, so I always start with that. Here is the before:

And here is the after:
If I had a better camera, this might actually look really cute. I don't, and it doesn't. Until I get a better camera...look at the picture and imagine it looking 10 times better in person! I have been in love with the "boo" above, so I tried my own version of it. Little did I realize that I have nothing to hold the paper in place! It's not quite BHG, but it's close enough.
I already had the sticks idea in mind from Martha (of course), but when I saw Susie do it, I knew I had to join in! Why hello $1.00 crow! You're so spooky!
And of course, we can't forget about witch #2. I've kept her on the mantle, and she has since survived the wrath of Maximus. Don't think she's gone unnoticed though. There are times where I catch him staring at her and drooling at the thought...
Well, my one and only bell jar. I stuck some handpainted (by yours truly) pumpkins in there, but it needs more. This house is what I call a constant work in progress. Remember my dollar store jackpot? Add a little ribbon, use it as a backdrop, and it's good to go!
Little pumpkin man keeps popping up in pictures, but I think he's there to stay (for now!).
On a side note, I went to my one true love today. Of course I'm talking about Hobby Lobby! Duh. I FINALLY found some bell jars! Two to be exact! BUT I found something else that took precedence this time. I'll hopefully show you that tomorrow. Bell jars will just have to wait for now. Hope you enjoyed the "spook show"!
P.S. Can anyone tell me an easy way to do a strike through on my words? I've found the need for it a million times, but I have no idea how to do it! Thanks!

Okay, now I'm really sad that I don't have a mantle. Really, you make me want one bad. Yours looks awesome. Just perfect! So, I'm going to whine to my hubby about not having a mantle but having to fork out 700 billion to complete strangers. I could have a fancy mantle and a house to go around it for 700 billion. :-)

Your mantel looks awesome! We just moved into a new house and I have a mantel for the first time. I did "Fall" decorations and had great fun. Yours are very creative. :)

NO idea how to do the strike through on the words. If you find out, let me know.:o) Your mantel looks great! I love the BOO jars! I saw something similar in the Pottery Barn catalog this week (not Halloween related though) that I want to try. LOVE your little pumpkin man. I covet him. lol Can't wait to see what you are up to courtesy of Hobby Lobby!

Well, of course I love it all. Now, I have wanted to buy that little black cat for TWO years and have talked myself out of it everytime I see it at Meijer or TJ Maxx. THEN, I had that little "pumpkin man" in my cart today but put him back. Hubby wouldn't have been happy-thought about hiding him and claiming he was from last year but didn't think I should start being dishonest over Halloween decorations:( Maybe I won't feel so sorry for myself once I pull out my 501 rubbermaids full of decorations that I already own:) Happy Halloween!!

Here's a way to do strike through:
enter < s > before your word then < / s > after the word. It should look like this:
< s >word< / s >

I've always wanted to do it myself but I never wanted to go through the effort. I guess it's not as bad as I thought it was.

Ok, blogger won't send this so use above code without spaces.

OH I love the Boo jars!! How cute is that. I like your bell jar as well it is a nice shape. Painting the pumpkins is a great idea. I must do that. I still want to decorate my hutch and my dining room sideboard thingy. You have inspired to go forth. :)

What is so wonderful chris is the continuity ofthe spooky black decorations with that adorable orange/black pumpkin witch. Less color set the effect here. A Hollywood set dresser could not have done better. Look out Martha!

What a great spooky mantle! I love it and I am so copying you with the spider webs! When I first saw your letters I thought "What is ECC?" Man, that girl teaches English and she cannot spell!" DUH. I am so jealous you found a crow - I have been to 6 Dollar Stores now with no luck - but could've bought a $30 crow with the gas I've spent!

You couldn't find any bell jars at Michael's? What a bummer. I wonder if you can buy them online? Try that. Hope you find some...I know they were a pain to find I looked in every store around here...TjMaxx, Tuesday Morning, Hobby Lobby, Dollar Stores, Target they were no where to be found so I was really lucky to find them at Michaels.

Forgot to add....It looks really good. One of my favorites!

I need to learn how to strike through my words. Thanks for asking for the how-to.

Your Halloween decorating looks. So. Good. I don't even have my bones glittered yet. At this rate, I'll end up with skeletal decor for Christmas. *sigh*

I'm totally loving this. I am also coveting your cat. I had it in hand at both CVS and Micheal's and made myself put it back. I convinced myself they'd go on sale and I'd snatch one up at that point, lol. I am so inspired by this, that I definitely need to do some mantle tweaking asap. And to think I just threw a bunch of branches in the compost pile today. And I've got black spray paint in the garage that could've turned them into something like this. Well, a poor fascimile, but still. Love it...all.

I love the way the holidays are coming together at your house...

TidyMom said...

I LOVE it!!! - for your jars with the BOO - you could put candycorn in the jars to hold the paper.

For the strike thru (I've done it)
Look when you are typing your post, there is a tab that says "edit html", click that, find the words you want to strike thru and put the < strike> before the word(s) and and < /strike> at the end! (don't put the space though, I couldn't post it with out the space

i love the branches w/the crow... scary but not too scary, kwim? so, i went to my local dollar tree to find some cheapo crows so i can make my own. alas, they didn't have any. but they did have little WHITE birds in the christmas decor.... so, we'll see how fake feathers look spray painted black. if it goes horribly wrong it was only a dollar, right?! everything looks great!
