I found baskets, but I didn't like the shade. So..I painted them.
I present you with the final product!
Apparently, replacing a drawer with baskets is a LOT more work than it seems. I had to have the wood cut, I had to paint it, I had to buy brackets to put the wood in place, and my husband had to fight with it to make it level. NOT as easy as it would seem.
However, it was totally worth it. I'm still debating whether I want to keep it white or paint it cream to match my table and chairs. The weather has made me keep it white for now.
Remember those Christmas baskets I bought for .50 cents? Here they are in their green glory.

It's cute. I thought for sure you were going to have the jar of crayons on top. ;)
Love it!
LOVE, LOVE LOVE IT! I stalked this dresser on Walmart.com. It got aweful reviews about quality so I did not order it, but yours looks great.Do you think it could hold up to little ones?
Love it! I'm having dresser envy right now!
oh, I LOVE it, you did a great job!
Love it! What kind of paint did you use for the baskets??
That looks fantastic! I really love it!
Now, come on over here and fix up my old dresser that way...
I'm in warm sunny Florida! :)

It looks awesome! So worth it I'm sure. I like it white.
That was totally worth the wait. I love it! It'd also make a great kitchen island. So many uses for that piece.
That looks worth TONS of money!! LOVE IT!

I think it looks great white.
All I can say is Awesome! Seriously, awesome! Love it! Great job!
It looks great (whatever color you decide on).
I love it. The baskets complete the look.
LOVE IT! My buffet in my kitchen is my craft room on wheels and it rocks my world. Every time I open my "ribbon drawer" I feel giddy!
This is cool! I have a craft-and-everything-else dresser/desk that I painted peacock blue. It is so handy to have the drawers. I like your basket replacement idea.
The background here is beautiful, by the way.
Wow..it looks great!!!

It is beautiful! And I love the idea of a dresser in the kitchen!
Chris I love it! It looks great with the baskets. I'm looking for one to put my tv on I may have to take out a drawer and put in baskets too.
have a great day
julie
It looks really good! it was worth the wait :)
Chris- it looks awesome!
But....you've got me wondering...why replace the top drawer with baskets? Just for appearance? Or did you have an issue with that top drawer? Just curious. It looks beautiful!
Chris~
I just added you to my favs because I was fascinated by this dresser. It turned out fantastic!
What a wonderfully repurposed dresser!
You and your hubby did a great job!
It looks great. My only suggestion would be to think about replacing the drawer pulls with something similar to the drawer pulls you have in the kitchen. It may give it a less dresser look. I really do love it and would like one for my breakfast room.
I LOVE it! Adore it. Actually I'm coveting it, if I am honest 'bout it. Would look great in my new studio. Finding a spot for it might be an issue. Heck, I'll just toss out the bed. Send it on to Gawga! teehee! Thanks for sharing.
I love it! Actually I really like it in white! I am already contemplating what I might put in a dresser like that! Hmmm!
I LOVE it! This is such a cool place to keep supplies. I have been trying to think of something for my daughter's art stuff and I might have to do something similar.
We have an old dresser in our kitchen as well. It was one my husbands grandfather made when he was ten. It's a little wobbly, but it's so wonderful. We keep all our napkins, napkin rings, season table decor, etc in there. I like the idea or having craft storeage in the kitchen. I have my own craft room but I always end up painting on the kitchen counter.
It looks lovely and organized! Can't beat that!
I love it--what a great idea! Now, I need to buy me an old dresser!
Dang that looks good! Not so sure I'd go through all the work for it...but that's just cause I'm lazy! ;) Really looks great, though; I think I'll keep my eyes open to see if I come across a cool dresser at Goodwill or a garage sale.
Man!! Who'd a thunk it! It REALLY looks great. And how functional is that??! Perfect!
Chris this looks great! LOVE IT! Can you tell me what paint you used for the baskets?
the dresser looks great hard work pays off...that includes bugging a hubbie and

Love what you did with the dresser. After seeing this I think I'm going to try making over a metal filing cabinet.
I like it! If I can find a long dresser, I'd want to do that for a buffet in my dining room ... I have an empty wall! Great job!
Look at all the organization! Rock on!
It looks great! I wouldn't think it would be that much trouble to put the baskets in either. Oh well, it sure looks great now!
-Kim
It looks amazing. Now I want one.
I gotta know where you got that dresser - it's exactly what I'm looking for my entry way.
Hi, I love your blog! I found it through Layla's. I had seen what your "inspiration" piece was before I had seen what you had done and have done a version of it as well. I just love how reading yours and other blogs gets my creative juices flowing, thanks!!

Looks fantastic! Maybe you covered this elsewhere on your blog, but did you just remove the slider thingys that the dresser drawer would have glided on? Anyway, it turned out very nice!

That was a great idea.
Hello from SITS!
Happy SITS day!
This is a great idea!
I can't tell you how excited I am to see this post. My daughter has a dresser that we got right when she was born. It's a pretty nice dresser and was given to us as a hand-me-down from one of my old 2nd graders. Anyway, we've fixed the bottom drawer so many times, I've lost count. We were just about to give it way because we're tired of fixing the drawer. But now I know we can try the basket idea. It looks so nice and I really think it will be functional (especially if we use it in the toy area!). Thanks! And HAPPY SITS DAY!
~Shaye
I love that. It's a great idea to replace a drawer with baskets.
I need a craft dresser. Yesterday. I'll have to add it to my wish list.
Happy SITS day!!
You are A.MAZ.ING!!
I was going through some of your past posts, I'm just in awe of your talent!!
Fun, and inspiring!
It looks great and very organized! I could use something like that to help with the pile of boxes of craft/scrapbooking stuff in my room!
This is a very cute idea! The baskets give the chest a more interesting look. Happy SITS day!
That's adorable! I've always wanted to try do do that with a dresser, but I've never found baskets that fit right.

Looks great! I have a dresser in my dining room that I painted lime green.
Ok, totally not blowing smoke here: THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!
I have an old dresser whose drawers refuse to open. I am gonna rip that sucker out and add baskets. Thanks for sharing!!
That looks great! I like how you used the baskets. It gives the dresser a totally different look.
I love it!!! Now I have an idea what I might do with my daughter's dresser that has a broken top drawer. hmmm....

Love your idea! Visiting from SiTS!
WOW! That is so cool!
Happy SITS day :)
When my husband finally gets a new dresser, I want to do this with his old one! I absolutely love it!
I really love this. How cute! I would keep it white, it looks very crisp and fresh (very shabby chic). I want to do this in my bedroom now, thanks for the idea!
The dresser is really nice. And, I think dressers are completely underrated as furniture for other rooms. We have a nice dresser in our living room to serve as the place where our TV goes, along with picture frames. In the drawers we keep kids toys and movies/DVD's. SO functional. Plus, if we ever want to move it, we can use it someplace else (unlike an entertainment center!)
Happy SITS day!
It looks Great!
It's so funny to click on this from SITS when I've already loved and admired it! Great job, if I didn't tell you before :)

I like it white! Looks good with your trim and is a contrast against the wall. Great job!

You are so creative. I would keep it white for now too. If only I could have your design skills.

Your finished dresser is so pretty. Making something unique is a lot of work, but the results will make you happy everytime you look at it.
Like the baskets in there...I might have to try that one out.
Jamie :-)
That sounds like me. I'm still trying to figure out why it would be difficult to put baskets in ;) And this is why I don't do crafty! Or tech, for that matter.
Happy SITS day! I like the dresser with the baskets. I need to use something like this for my craft supplies.
I love to see such creativity. Feeds the soul, you know?!
Gorgeous! So worth it, I'd imagine! Happy SITs Day!
