Pretty Little Table

Oohhhhhhh how I wish I could convey the ugliness of this table.  I stupidly forgot to take a before picture.  Picture it as it is below, but add about 7 coats of white, green, and pukish red to it.  Got that in your mind?

IMG_5352 I have stripped furniture before, but this one just about broke me.  It took forever.  I kept saying, “It was only $9.99.  It was only $9.99” to remind myself of its worth.  Yes.  I said $9.99.

I had it sprayed with the leftover paint from the lockers so there would be continuity in the room.  I wanted it to be VERY neutral with some sparkle.

IMG_5387 The lamp—which currently sells for $39.99 at Target was purchased at Goodwill for $12.99.  It still had the Target tags on it!  My only regret is that there were two of them, and I only bought one.  Dar!

IMG_5390

The silver bowl was bought for $1.99 at Salvation Army, and I bought the glass balls on clearance at Target for $2.49.

IMG_5391

Okay, so the big money here was spent on the pearled vase.  I did get it half off, however.  It was $24.99 at Hobby Lobby and totally worth the “splurge”.

IMG_5393

The lampshade was purchased at Wal Mart for $15.00, and I had the glass vase and beads already on hand.  There you go!  A little breakdown of my new best friend—with lots of pictures, because that’s what you do when you’re in a relationship.

IMG_5360 Some people have asked if I had the lockers custom built.  Yes, I did.  I drew on paper what I wanted, showed him various pictures, and our contractor made it happen.  Someone even asked if my husband built them.  THAT made me laugh.  A lot.

I, too, found a stacked acrylic ball lamp at good will! Mine was 5.00 but it's very old and needs a new cord. I had to clean it up and buy a new shade, but I LOVE it! The base of my lamp is a little more vintage than the Target version. Great job with the table, it looks gorgeous!!

I frequently find Target merchandise at Goodwill. Some merchandise that is still on the shelves at Target in fact! Nice work as always Chris. I especially love the Hob Lob splurge.

i love how stinkin expensive lampshades are. i stumbled upon a pair after months of looking for 49 cents each and broke into tears. i too am notorious for not taking the before pictures.

That turned out great. I love the balls in the silver bowl.

this may sound silly, but what kind of white paint did you use? it looks great!

Looks great! I cannot believe you found that lamp at Goodwill and then left it's partner there! I have been wanting lamps just like that for a long time but don't want to spend the money. My Goodwills never have cute lamps, they have things that look like they would have been ugly in 1974! You lucked out.

The whole mud room looks fantastic!

Another great makeover! I'm currently sporting black oil based freckles because I was so motivated by your back door photos I started my own makeover. We shall see if I get equally marvelous results.

Oh I wish you could be my personal shopper extrordinaire.

I actually have 2 of those Target lamps and I hate to admit it, but I paid the $39.99:o I love them, but I think $12 would have made me feel a whole lot better. Your table looks fabulous.

You are amazing and I want to go shopping with you and be your BFF! I came across your blog through a friend of mine. And, well, you have inspired me to start decorating my house after only living in it for 2 years now! Took me long enough right? I just haven't wanted to spend the money but now that I know I can do it super cheap I am all about it. I am constantly on Craigslist, going to thrift stores and trying to make my own decorations. So, I thank you for the inspiration and guidance to finally decorate my house and make it mine! Your the bomb!

She's just lovely! I'm impressed that you saw the lines of the table for what they were and knew that a little paint (and some hard work) would turn her into such a gorgeous mud room addition.

Amber said...

You have me wishing I could find an old table with a bazillion layers of paint on it. Props to you though, I probably would have just added a new layer of paint on top of what was already there. Ultimately beautiful results...I'm almost jealous.

HOW FAB. love it! its great to re-furbish furniture and see the end results. I love the lamp!

Love how you put it all together. The table look wonderful, love the shape.

I tried to go to Goodwill - once. Real love means never having to shop in the "pack a gun in your purse" side of town. Love the table Chris..it totally looks like you. You should take a picture of you with your table, you know for when the relationship hits rough times later on down the road.

Look what a little hard work can do! Beautiful. And the lamp, and the vase, and the bowl, all perfect! I wish I had this mudroom with all the fixins. It looks great!

That's beautiful! You got some GREAT deals.....and the end product is gorgeous. Now...the only thing you DIDN'T include was how much you spent on "paint stripper"..and with all those layers of paint you must have used a lot. LOL! Do you have a particular brand you like to use?

I too forget to take before pictures. The lamp was such a good deal! At our goodwill it seems that they sell things for more than they would be new at their original store haha. I think the vase was totally worth the $ because it's beautiful and very eye catching. I love what you did here!
