I Been a Thriftin’

Things are finally settling down just a bit, so I’ve been able to do a little more thrifting lately.  I had my mom with me when I found this silver (heavy) platter.

IMG_5909 I knew it was good when I picked it up.  Then I turned it over and saw this!

IMG_5910

And this!  I giggled with glee since I walked out of there only paying $3.99 for it!  I brought this baby home, polished her up, and showed her off to my mom!  She was SO angry at herself for not being able to see it’s beauty in the store!  She’s a rookie.

IMG_5913 Yesterday, I went to the paint store to get some samples.  Lucky for me, they had what I call an “upper end” consignment store.  I think they charge too much, but sometimes you can find some good things.IMG_5916

I bought 5 of these white glass orbs.  They are GORGEOUS!  It is no secret that white is my favorite color. IMG_5927

As I was gathering them all up, my daughter said, “Mommy, why are you laughing?”  I didn’t even realize it.  That’s what thrifting does to us.IMG_5915

The smallest ball was priced at $9.00, the medium ball was $11.00, and I imagine the largest one was $13.00.  Hold on…I’ve  gotta go get my calculator.  Okay.  That means, these would have been $53.00!!!

IMG_5928

Perhaps I was laughing because I walked out of there only spending $22.00!  Woo Hoo, I tell ya!  By the way…the silver tray below was from White Barn Candle Co.  I paid $1.99.

IMG_5930 And lastly (whew!), I’ve been busy finding homes for all the shells I found and bought down in Florida.  Here’s a little sneak peak for ya!

I’m gonna go think about all the money I saved.  My husband will be thinking about all the money I spent.

Hee. Money saved. Money spent.

Great finds girl!

I went to a thrift today...found a kaminski bag for a buck. Brought it home, told Hubs how much it would retail for. He said " Great...sell it on ebay". Hrmph.

My husband always says do not tell him how much I saved! It would have been better if I hadn't spent any in the first place. He hates when I say that.

Great finds! I love thrifting, and yes, it does cause me to laugh too. It also makes me say out loud, "Get Out!" or "No way!" or "Are ya kiddin me?" I usually try to take one of my kids with me so people won't think I am talking to myself. :)
Blessings,
Traci

The glass balls caught my eye immediately! It is all about the prize not the hunt. Sometimes I go (with not extra money) and I find wonderful bargains always when I am broke so I have begun to put away "mad money" for when I just can not resist! Great buys!

I am just laughing because that is exactly how things go in my house. I think about the money I saved on all this cool stuff for the house and my husband wants to know what I spent...because of course Goodwill, no matter how cheap, is still not paying ME to take this stuff off their hands. I wish they would though. Men just don't get it.

But what about all the money you COULD be saving with Geico??

And those googly eyes??

Great deals! I like how you say your Mom is a rookie! LOL!

When my kids were young I used to buy all their clothes on clearance - I'd buy up a size, for the next season. When hubby would say something I would tell him, "You should actually be thanking me! I'm saving you money."

Wow, you cleaned up! Love all the goodies!

Nice finds! I haven't been thrifting in a long time :(

It's really not as much fun when you have a two year old with you for some reason!

Laura said...

With all the money you've saved, you have some left over for clothes! Isn't it great how that works out?

Good job! It's so rewarding to find the deals.

Great finds. Next time I'll go shopping with you and pick up on some of the deals. Aren't they the best ;o)

Geez, I WISH I had the eye (and patience) to go thrifting. Everyone always finds such great buys, but I either don't have the patience to dig, or the eye to spot a diamond in the rough.

Happy Shopping!

Fantastic finds! I adore the PB silver tray and the glass balls look fabulous! =) Doesn't it feel good to find such great deals?!! I tell my husband all the time that even if I were a bazillionaire I think I would still thrift because of the wonderful feeling of accomplishment you get when you find a hidden treasure.

I just recently discovered your blog and I love it! I am such a thift finder too and garage sale junkie and it kills my husband. He is like your husband and thinks about what I spend instead of what I saved! I just found a gorgeous oval mirror at a garage sale for $2 and was just giddy! He said...."We already have mirrors." They'll never get it. Thanks for such a great blog!

I am laughing and laughing at this one. So funny! And yes, you know you're addicted when you're all atwitter at your find and your child looks at you with a "has mom lost her mind" look--especially at such a "mundane" object in your hand. You go girl!
