A Little Maximus for Ya

Believe me.  No pun intended.  It’s no secret how I feel about the dog, but he’s had a pretty busy life lately.  I thought I might share a couple of things for you.

IMG_6553

The other day I came downstairs only to find Maximus in a hysterical fit.  We’re talking full-on dramatics here.  Wimpering, whining, pacing back and forth, hair up on its end.

IMG_6557

“What is it, buddy?”, I say.  (Don’t be fooled by the term of endearment—still don’t like him.)  He won’t break his stare.  He’s focused.  He must intimidate his new adversary.  He. must. prevail.

IMG_6551

What?  You don’t see it?

IMG_6548

How’s this?  See it now?  There it is, folks.  All 2.4 pounds of it.  The same weight as Maximus’ tongue.

IMG_6555

I mean, you can’t blame him, right?  The sheer size of this bunny would send any 150 pound dog into defense mode. Knowing exactly how this would play out, I let Maximus outside to “conquer his prey”.

IMG_6547

He ran full stride to the edge of the deck, stopped, and stared at it.  The bunny ran away leaving my big ol’ watch dog in his cottontail dust.

IMG_6559

In other news, my husband cut Maximus’ toenail too short.  All the dog lovers out there can relate, right?  From what I understand, it happens.  But do your dogs look like this as a result?

IMG_7708

His cast? My daughter’s sock.  Such a big, tough dog, isn’t he?

IMG_7711 It’d be funnier to assume he refuses to look at the camera in this picture.  Instead, he was staring at a bug on the window screen.  That’s how he rolls.

IMG_7704

Well, stay tuned for tomorrow!  I have (what I think is) a pretty big announcement for you!  This’ll be great!

LOL! My husband's dog would be having a fit also! She caught and played with a dove Saturday!

I'm not much of a dog person either but he's pretty darn cute!

He is so darn cute , how could you not like him , now a dog that walks down to the basement and pees right on a plastic bag on the floor , way annoying .
My Moe {my fave boy} would have killed that ribbit in a nano second , he goes cookoo crazy at the mere sight of animals on our tv , it is quite a sight .
I feel his paw pain , my pouch recently bruised and broke off two claws , they are growing back , but he has two new ones that he somehow broke...delightful.

HOLY MOLY that is a CUUUTE DOG!!!! And those pictures with the hurt paw...oh goodness I could hardly take it. What a cutie!!!

That is the exact reason I leave all of our doggy pedicures for the groomers to handle. My very large, white German Sheppard gets bathed every 6 weeks. It's worth every penny of the $25 not to fight with the 110 lbs beast who is afraid of the water.

Aw, he is sooo cute! Our late, sweet Boxer Coco used to go nutso at the rabbits outside the window. We miss her so much. She died suddenly this past Feb at just 4 years old. We think it was an unrealized heart condition. Geez . . . sorry to be a downer. Your gentle giant just got me thinking of our sweet girl.

He's adorable! Thanks for sharing.

Oh, he is a handsome one! My girls would cover him with hugs and kisses and let him give them kisses in return!

Awww, I love Maximus and I'm glad to know he's still alive and well and driving you insane ;). At least he doesn't have diabetes and require you to give him insulin shots twice a day. Cause let me tell you, that's a lot of fun in a dog righ there. :) Looking forward to your announcement.

Laurel @ Ducks in a Row said...

We have bunnies all the time - I need Maximus to come take care of them for me!

So sweet. I love the ones with the cast!

He's such a cutie!! My dog right now as I type this is FREAKING out because my hubby put a golf club by our back door! At least Maximus was going after something alive!!! Hahah!!! Gotta love Man's Best Friend!!

TanyaLea said...

okay, this is WAYYYYYY cute! :) I giggled through the whole thing. And despite your feelings for the dog...he's ADORABLE!!...sock cast and all! LOL!! ;)

I LOL@ him staring down the rabbit. My rat terrier is like that, but she goes bazooka nuts.

Not sure if you know, but if you cut a toenail too short and it's bleeding, flour will help the bleeding stop! My vet gave me that tip.

Oh - my husband trimmed a nail too short and it looked like someone had been murdered in my house. There was a mess EVERYwhere - upstairs and down. Bless his heart. (Maximus'...not my husband's.)

M.L. @ The House of Whimsy said...

Ohhh, this was So So Cute!!! Who can resist that face?
I gave you credit in my last post about glittering skeleton parts. All I did, however, was glitter a small head. But still, remembering what you did last year was my inspiration. : )

Poor Maximus, he's just trying to guard the homestead, and he's soooo underappreciated. :)
He is a gorgeous dog, you know...

Richella said...

Oh, Chris. He is so adorable. How can you not succumb to his charm?

Willo said...

Ok, I know he's not your favorite, but I love him. And I want one just like him. But in the meantime, I have a pitbull who is also a big baby.

Melanie said...

I am a dog lover too. I understand the toe thing and him not getting off the porch. LOL

I have a maltipoo that is 18.5 lbs. and he is all tough until you say BOO!

He just had a seizure this morning and I know it is because he feels something going on in the house.

We are moving 800 miles from Florida in 3 weeks and he is seeing things going on. My husband says he is a crazy dog:)

Lindsey @ Harpserville Home said...

HAAA!! Hilarious. My dogs do the same thing. The other day my boy dog caught an adult squirrel and I looked like a lunatic outside trying to talk him into dropping it and coming back inside. I can only imagine what my neighbors think of me...Cute post!

Susie from Bienvenue said...

That dog always gets a laugh out of me! I dont know if it's his size or the fact of how much you adore him...too funny. Cant wait to hear your good news!

Lynette said...

I think that last picture is hilarious! Our dog found a bunny a few years ago, and they got a little 'too friendly,' so we had to find a new home for the bunny! It was just as strange as a dog being frightened by a bunny!

NICO Designs said...

Maximus is a cutie even to someone that is allergic to dogs.
I am still laughing at his 'cast'.

Anne said...

Poor Maximus - it's rough being a cute gentle giant.

Judy said...

He is a handsome boy! I remember the first time we cut our dogs nails and one a little to short, she ran off to her bed and pouted forever, it broke our hearts...

Denise said...

Any reason you dislike him so much? He is a cutie.

Carol said...

What a funny post! I really enjoyed it. Our dog, Fletcher, loves rabbits. He's a Golden Retriever and chasing those babies is what he loves to do.

Norma Lee @ Norma Lee Good said...

Poor puppy. That rabbit would definitely send my toy fox terrior into a fit. I hate when I accidently clip their nails too short. I did it once. I haven't clipped since. My mom told me next time it happened to put baking soda on it. It seals the bleeding. Cute socks though!

Dorie said...

I get ya. I wasn't a dog person either till this little bully captured my heart. Your dog is absolutely gorgeous! He says it all with that face of his...:)

He is sooo cute! :)

Nina Patricia @ The Adventures of Nina Patricia said...

Thats one handsome dog you got there. Animal lover here and I refuse to cut nails for that reason. I pay to have that done, I dont have the heart. I love big dogs, keep his pictures coming!!!

Theresa said...

Love him!! I have two Boxers that do the exact same thing. I too have cut the poor dogs nails too short. They bleed like a stuck pig! Looked like a crime scene on my back deck the first time I trimmed my puppy's nails. and that was only cutting one too short! Love the "cast" that is a great idea. Maximus looks like he was feeling really sorry for himself...lol.

Lynette said...

I've lurked/followed you for a very long time and get many great ideas from you - haven't commented in forever though - we have a cat - I really dislike my cat - you may remember I asked if you wanted to trade a long time ago? I lied, I don't want to trade - your dog is WAY to big! My cat only sheds - I bet your dog sheds and slobbers right? ;-)
Really hate his nail got trimmed too short though - looks way painful!

Rabbits? That's nothin'! These squirrels over here are really something to be worried about, they're EVERYWHERE! Drives Mr. Tequila crazy.

Can't wait for your announcement! :) I'm on the edge of my seat!

He is too cute ~ all 150 pounds of him! The bunny story is priceless ~ too funny. I can relate to the toenail too short story ~ I honestly thought she might "bleed out" in front of me! Loving his "cast" ~ big strong puppy dog he is.

Precious Maximus! The big lug; what a gentle giant. Thx for sharing the adorableness that is Max.

I totally "don't like" our big monster of a dog,too. =]

That is too funny! Years ago we cut our dog's nails & had to do the sock thing too. Thanks for reminding me....

After that...we always take her to get them done. It seems worth it!
