Cupid’s Lair

I did some thrifting this weekend, and it was euphoric.  I found some wonderful deals, but I can’t show you until my husband goes to work.  Sound familiar to anyone, or am I the only one who doesn’t want to hear, “What in the world did you buy that for?”

However, I can show you a little Valentine’s project that I just completed.  Like my wooden heart?  Me neither.IMG_0004 Hobby Lobby had their jewelry beads 1/2 off this weekend, and I found such a pretty pink mixture that I had to have it—without knowing what I wanted to do with it.IMG_0005

I smeared some craft glue all over the heart, smashed the beads into the glue, (official terminology here) and let it dry.IMG_0006

Combine your new bejeweled heart with a frame from your basement and hot glue that sucker right to the back of the frame.

IMG_0013

IMG_0010  IMG_0012Bask in your self-righteousness when your husband sees it on the mantle and says, “Wow?  You made that?  I’m impressed.”  Of course you are, dear.

IMG_0016

I will admit that I tried another one with smaller beads that nearly lead to a nervous breakdown.  I wouldn’t suggest using these beads.  Nor do I suggest nervous breakdowns.

IMG_0009

No project here.  I simply impaled my fake plant with a pick.  I do love little touches here and there, though.  You have to be careful with Valentine’s decorations.IMG_0014 One too many hearts, and the next thing you know your living room just might look like this.red-hearts-for-Valentines-Day-3 Be careful.

You are so funny! Hubby is wondering why I'm laughing at my computer. Actually, he says, "Just a Girl?" He knows. Smart man. Why is it that sticking something in a frame ups its cute quotient by approximately 92%? Your hearts are great and although I'm sorry to hear that you were almost carted away in a jacket after making the small heart, I have to admit that it's my fav!

I love the framed hearts! Go you for even attempting to glue beads down! Anything with glue and beads or glitter generally ends in me having a nervous breakdown, a glittery floor, and a furry critter covered in some part of the crafting fiasco! I'm a new follower and absolutely love what I've seen!

(and I love the little red heart that you did with teeny tiny seed beads!)

good project.

don't want to do the nervous breakdown one because I am to close to having one myself since we just moved!

No worries, your heart looks quite smart...right there on your mantle.

Too funny... My hubby really gets annoyed at some of my thrift store finds too. They just don't have the eye of seeing what it can become!

Love your blog!

Love the hearts! I am reading my husband your post because it sounds like something I could have written myself! I am so glad I'm not alone.

How adorable! I'm always afraid to decorate with valentine things, cause it can get so tacky. Thank you for showing beautiful and classic ways to add some holiday touches.

So I should take down my balloon arch in my living room? haha

Your decorations are very cute! I like that beaded heart frame idea. Man, I keep seeing all kinds of cute ideas for Valentine's. Hopefully I will get at least one done!

Hey that looks like my prom a few years back... ok, twenty years back. Hahaha. Cute stuff!

I literally LOL at that last shot! VERY cute hearts...

Too cute! Love the frame you used for the second one! Love how you just smashed all the beads, maybe that can be considered cheap therapy, lol. I so understand the not taking out until hubby leaves, they just don't get it. They can't visualize like we can!

I love a cautionary tale!

Jess said...

See, that's why I love you!
As for husbands, I feel compelled to share, I found an awesome shabby little cabinet last weekend and brought it home...hubby had one look at it and said "you PAID for THAT?" ROTFL gotta love 'em , right?
{note to self: hide items until they are improved upon}

LOVE the heart craft. That is classy. You are so right about valentine decor. Gotta be VERY careful.
And I just gotta mention that the heart made w/ smaller beads is beautiful. And since you, in fact, didn't have a nervous breakdown, maybe it was worth it??!!! So glad I found your blog, a friend shared w/ me on facebook. Gonna add you to my favorites list:)

Also we have the "nemesis" in common though mine, or my hubbies rather is a 150lb. Rottie, that decided to eat chunks! Yes, CHUNKS! Out of our siding outside and drywall INSIDE!!! He's trying and almost succeeding at eating us out of house and home...ugh...

After seeing this very very cute project you showed us this morning, I went to my local Hobby Lobby and bought some beads (which were not on sale anymore, shoot!) and some little wooden hearts and made some of these for my friends for Valentines day. They turned out super cute and I think they are going to love them! Thanks for the idea! :)
