Dollar Store Desperate

In case you haven’t heard, I’ve been painting.  And painting.  Yet, I have nothing to show for it.  There’s only so much a working mom can get done between the hours of 4 and 10 at night.  I did stumble on this little doo-hicky at the dollar store yesterday.  Cute, no?

Perhaps it’s the plastic wrapper that’s throwing you off.  Look what happens when you remove it!

IMG_0543

“Normal” picture frames don’t always work for me on my desk.  I like to rotate my pictures quite often, and it was becoming a pain to change them out.  I thought this would be nice to filter through my family pics. IMG_0545

 IMG_0544

Hey.  How did this picture get in here?  Fine. I’m showing off.  A student bought me these because...well, I’m just that awesome.  Her words, I promise!!

IMG_0546

Wanna take a little tour of my “awesomeness area”?

IMG_0552

Ever wonder what was underneath your high school teachers’ desks?

Would you like to know who won the fabulous giveaway to Timeless Treasures?

It’s Mott at The Courtyard Gate!  Lucky Duck!  Congratulations!

The cork in the frame is brilliant and thanks for showing us the secret life of a teacher.

Seeing the price tag on the shoe and the wrestling plaque you forgot to deliver endeared you to me :)

I love seeing a little glimpse in to your life. I love the new picture frame.

It is nice to see all the little things that go undone in your life too.

I was just thinking about the ones in my life... like my garage.

That seems a more daunting task then just removing a price tag.

Awwww....I've been a stay at home mom for 4 years now, but my other life? A junior high school teacher. Looking at these pictures totally made me miss it.

Ahhh....the picture frame is much cuter that way!

oh my you made me laugh, I'm going to tell my 16 year old son to start checking under his teachers' desks!

I LOVE that you have a little lamp on your desk! How cute is that? I'm slightly disturbed that you still wear/own Birks. Those went out in the 90's you know. And...WHY, um...is there a beach towel in your desk drawer?

Ohh...the frame! That's fun too! Still in awe how fast Benjamin caught on to you! THAT was AWESOME!

I laughed at the notepad. Have the same one. Gotta love Target!

When I was in school, I think I was too busy watching the clock to wonder what was under my teachers' desks. : ) What a cute frame idea! I love that notepad too! For another look, you could stick one of the happy pad pages behind your photos in the frame!

: )

I did the same thing with a framed mirror that has hooks on the bottom to hold keys, etc. I love it! I use it as a small bulletin board to hold all the little love notes my husband and I randomly write to each other.

Love love love your desk area and also under that desk! Funny! and your bulletin board frame! So perfect...did you paint it and add the cork? Love that! Very cool too that you can change your picture at the push of a pin! Love your blog!

I always enjoy it when you share a glimpse of a day in the life of "Chris". Love the lamps around your room and adore Doug and Olivia's pic. Can I get one too? Believe it or not, I used to look under the teachers desks. Don't know what I thought I was going to see though???

Oh my goodness. I just spent, I don't know how long, going through your blog. I love it, so fabulous. I got so many ideas for "things to do" and things I wish I could do.
What subject do you teach? I miss high school. Best 4 years ever.

I love the frame! You've inspired me. I'm a Goodwill regular, but I'll have to also look at the dollar store from here on out in a whole new light.

Loving the birkenstocks. :)

Sometimes I miss being a teacher (but I never got flowers!) Just curious - who wrote the poster on your wall that says, "Thanks Chris"? Just wondering who calls you by your first name :-)

saerwin said...

So funny! I am also a high school teacher (math) -- and guess what is under my desk? Two pair of shoes! (and I probably have a price tag on one or both too!)
Your classroom is so nice -- much nicer than mine, but our school is quite old. Undergoing renovations soon.
Love your blog -- just discovered it recently. Thanks for posting all your wonderful ideas!

Chris said...

Donna, it was a poster from my entire 4th hour. They thought they were so cool that they knew my first name, so it was kind of an inside joke with them!

You truly are awesome! Still loving your blog! Thanks for the ideas and smiles! :)

That was just the cutest idea! I have got to start thinking more outside the box.

That is the cutest idea for a picture frame! And love the lamp on your desk. Almost makes me want to hop back into teaching just so I can have a lamp in my desk. I kept pink Isotoner slippers under my desk and a pair of sneakers to wear out to the muddy marching band field. Wouldn't want to mess up my cute black dress shoes marching in the mud, right?

Jennifer said...

You crack me up! Love seeing other teacher's rooms. Let's see...underneath mine right now I have an umbrella, a phone charger, and a box of Lucky Charms, ha!

Kristin @ My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia said...

OMG Chris that is so me! A pair of comfy shoes with a pair of cute shoes! Mine are usually slippers. Love the frame, I swear the $1 is the best sometimes! I finished the guestroom if you want to take a peak. Enjoy your weekend, hope you have a little time off from the sports

The exact same thing was under my HS Gov't teacher's desk. Plus two smelly feet. I actually fell in love with my husband making fun of that smell. Good times.

Just came across your blog. (A link from a link from a link. It's endless.) What's under your desk is hilarious. So cool that you're a "real" person and not afraid to show it. Your blog is fun and fresh. Wish I had time to blog, too. Oh the things I could write. Three kids, hubby, house, boutique...leaves me stretched thin. So much to do, so little time. I think you know the feeling. ;)

I appreciate your fun approach to life and unique design. Don't stop!
