AnNicole is having a party! Well, she HAD a party. Thanks to my husband taking the computer to work for the past two days, I’m late. Again.
I actually met my house back in 1991--13 years before I moved into it. Does this look familiar? I saw Father of the Bride, and I remember being glued to the movie screen. I was only a senior in high school, but I knew at that moment that I had met my house love of my life.
Several years passed by, but the house remained. It--or some form of it--had to be mine. Budget constraints (hate those) prevented me from an exact replica, but I’m pretty darn pleased with what I got.
I got a little less square footage than Steve Martin, but I guess I made up for it with lawn to mow. And mow.
I’ve had so much fun at Suburban Cottage going through all the stories of how everyone met their homes. Go check it out!

I also fell in love with the Father of the Bride's house...and even more in love with their family room! It's one of my favorite movies, both for the humor and the great designs! Still holding out for my white house with black shutters....
Gorgeous house! I've always loved the Father of the Bride house too! You got pretty close! Tell my boyfriend the secret to green grass like that!
Oh my...you have a huge yard. All that grass wow???? Your house is beautiful.
I don't want a replica of the FOB house I want THAT house! My bedroom is yellow because of that movie..**sigh** Time to go watch it.
gorgeous house....love that open space and the green grass...you do have a lot to mow though....can't wait for more photos of your house....
Oh I love the Father of the Bride house too!! Your house is gorgeous also!! Love the lawn!! I bet it's a lot of work to mow!! Hope you have a riding lawn mower!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Wow, Chris--what a great inspiration for a house! There are a couple of houses in my neighborhood which remind me of the Father of the Bride house. . . except I live in an old neighborhood, so these houses make me think of the original movie with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor. Have you ever seen that one? I think you'd love the house in it.
Your property is lovely. Michigan in the summertime is a stunningly beautiful place.
Thanks for sharing your house story with us!
What a gorgeous home, both the father of the bride home and your's. I still do not have my dream home, but I am pretty happy being in my dream state (Florida) so I would say I am at least moving in the right direction.
I've been enjoying these "How I Met My House" posts. What a fun party. I love the Father of the Bride house--how wonderful that you got your own version of it! And your property is beautiful, too.
Thanks for the shout-out, and have a great weekend! :)
ahhh...beautiful home...I too remember the father of the bride house...remember how he talked about how it was so perfect...I was getting ready to get married when that movie came out...and made my dad watch it with me...he infadically (ummm I had a rather large margarita with dinner...it is very hard to type....)told me there was no way I was having that kind of wedding...to expensive. Oh but I dirgress...that was the margarit talking...Steve Martin LOVED that house...makes me smile thinking about that movie...hope my girl gets that kind of wedding...although she might have to have the chipper chicken....both her parents are teachers! :)
Your home looks beautiful...and all the land is amazing compared to our lots here in sunny CA.
What a niec house you have and it is so large. Very different to our houses here in Ireland which are all block houses. Thanks for sharing
All things nice...
that was how i met my house too! ever since father of the bride i've so longed for a home like that. i'm so happy that you have the white house with the black shutters. mine is close, brick with black shutters...still long for the white!
I really enjoyed this post! I also fell in love with the house from that movie (and also their wedding, OMG!) I think it's just amazing that you found something so similar that you loved. What a great story!
I watch that movie twice a year just so I can drool over that house. I also love the Father of the Bride 2 because the kitchen is gorgeous!
Love your house! Thank you for sharing! And I echo the resounding sentiment, "Wow, what a yard!" Bless you for having to do all that mowing!!
YES!!! Did we all dream about that house? i was looking at every room and its every decoration. Something ver East Coast about that hosue yet it is in CA..hm...
I think everyone loved the Father of the Bride house. I am quite the fan of Home Alone's house as well. Your house is beautiful. Hope you have a riding lawnmower though.
I have always LOVED that house. It was just perfect on the outside and inside. The outside is just adorable.
I have enjoyed that series that AnNicole did. It's fun to see how others got to their homes.
That Father of the Bride house is my favorite house of all time. I love the way that the home and the garage we're positioned so they had a little area to play basketball together. I'm still holding out for my own FOTB house. :) Your house is Gorgeous and Your lawn...to die for!
Both houses are lovely. And the lawn is to die for! Thanks for stopping by Webster's Updates and leaving such a nice comment about my yard. Hope to see you again soon :)
First let me say that I found you from AnNicoles party and so glad I did! Father of the Bride's house was my dream home too....however, I didn't end up with that house - maybe another life or scaled down for another time -
Your lawn is AMAZING!!! I will be back to read older posts...I am very curious about this "just a girl" and what she creates !
I love the FOB house!! When I think of dream houses, I think of that one. Your house is beautiful! Your yard is amazing. I would love to have that much land. MY kids would be in Heaven!
WOW! Your house--and yard--are beautiful!!! Love it!
Loved this blog sweetheart. Just watched Father of the Bride last night and was thinking about you and your dream house. What a coincidence huh? Your house is better!!!! Great photos of your place. The yard is beautiful.
Mom
I guess we all drooled over that house in the movie, but you really got lucky enough to find one! I thought my lawn was big, (but I guess I just won't complain when cut the grass anymore) Your house is BEAUTIFUL!
My parents designed their home after the FOTB house :)
