Dear Home Goods,

I’ve thought long and hard about how to approach this issue with you.  I live 98.22 miles away from your closest store.  I’ll give you a moment to consider what that means for me.

Basically, I’m tired. Tired of wishing that I could brag to the world about your delightful lighting section, and exhausted at the thought of having to live yet another day without every. single. one. of these lamps.

HomeGoods lamps by Girl Reading.

You see that platform cart below?  If I were shopping in that store, I would gladly move it out of the way. I wouldn’t even consider it a nuisance.  It would be my privilege really.  It would be the least I could do as your humble patron.

Out Shopping... by VA Photo Blogger.KCHblog

I felt compelled to write this letter because there are days when it is just too much to bear. I live in a very populated area.  We would make it worth your while.

Consider this the first stop on my campaign for Home Goods Grand Rapids.  Has a nice ring to it, no?

Forever Yours (and I mean that),

Chris

LOL you're funny. I really DO feel sorry for you though. That's such a shame!! I will campaign for you too.

I love Home Goods too! Lucky for me, there is one in the town I live in. I get in more trouble in the kitchen stuff area....so many things that I just have to have! Hopefully you'll get yours soon!

Kara @ Mine for the Making said...

I {heart} Home Goods too. I have one about 15 minutes from my house though...I have much sympathy for you!

Laura Lynn said...

I feel the same way.
I hope your campaign works!

I only live about 60 miles from the closest store and make a pilgrimage about every quarter or so. It's so worth the trip!
But come on, it needs to be closer - I'm just 20 minutes from a state capital for crying out loud. That's the price I pay for living in between so many large cities - Baltimore, Washington, Philly and NY. Everything is there instead...

Gloria Fox said...

I too feel your pain. I don't have one either. Home Goods...you need to come to Roanoke, VA too. I (we) would do you proud!

Rachelle said...

Um, Hellllo.. My name is Rachelle and I'm going to Canton on Friday to pick up my new ikea couch.. want to know what is across from ikea in Canton? Yup. HomeGoods, feel free to hitch a ride. :)

Erin said...

This made me laugh...I have a HomeGoods about 45 minutes from my house and I am thankful for the distance...otherwise I might be divorced!

I would like to start the same campaign for an IKEA in St. Louis...shoot just my scrapn' crafty buddies and I will keep you in business!

Liz said...

Hmmm... Homegoods AND Ikea in Canton... I need schedule a trip!

Tiffany said...

I am so with you. I live in Holland and would be happy to drive to GR to shop there! Maybe you should point out that we also have a very large Dutch population that loves discount stores. While you're at it, could you convince IKEA to open a store here too? Thanks!

You are so funny! That's how I feel about Hobby Lobby. They are nowhere near here (but we do have a HomeGoods close by). :-)

Amber Filkins said...

Lol. I feel the same way about Hobby Lobby (and of course Home Good, but I'm lucky to have one nearby). Matter of fact, I wrote a letter to Hobby Lobby on my blog awhile back, and within hours, someone from the corporation had responded. Maybe HG will take note! I hope so, because I hate for my friend to be living in the dark.

:)

Kiri said...

hahaha This is so funny, I was just thinking the same thing yesterday! I'm so jealous of those people who have the privilege of stopping by homegoods whenever they feel like it! Let us know how your campaign goes! ;)

Oh, I'm so sorry! I have one that is dangerously too close for me. A blessing and a curse!

Kristen said...

HG is about 25 minutes from me...but with 3 kids it feels more like 90. I've been once. I'm excited for 2012 when all three are in school and I can go by myself!

Courtney @ One Fine Wire said...

I am so with you on that! We don't have one near us either, and it's killing me! It's the perfect store!!!

Wendy said...

I feel your pain! The closest store to us is 1 1/2 hrs away!! Hope they read your letter and your wish comes true!!

Tracy's Trinkets and Treasures said...

Can you get one for me too? I think the nearest one to me is 300 miles. I visted one in Florida. I knew I really couldn't buy anything because I was traveling by plane so it wasn't all the fun.

Jess @ Frugal with a Flourish said...

I feel your pain - moving from a place that didn't have one to having one 15 minutes away has made a huge improvement in my home. And a slightly less impressive dent in my pocketbook! Good luck with your plea!

Debbie said...

Home Goods? I dream about Home Goods. I think there is one in the DFW area, but nothing north in Oklahoma. Send one my way....or I guess I can hit that one on my way to IKEA...it is down there too.

4littlepilgrims said...

Too funny, I myself, just wrote them today to campaign for one in the Memphis, TN area!!! Let's hope our begging works!:)

I moved from MA to NM and have written to TJMAXX asking when Home Goods was coming west. Forget it! I too miss Home Goods and Ikea. Please support them so they can expand!

I absolutely love those lamps! They are way funky and so me!

Yes, ladies! IKEA! I thought about including them in the letter, but I didn't want to hurt Home Goods' feelings! We need both! Be thankful if you're closer to either one! ;)

Susan @ Oh My! Creative said...

I am with you on this one - I have to drive to another state to get to one!

Don't you get excited just walking through the door at the possibilities of what you might find. You don't know where to look first and you want to get all the best stuff before someone else.

I can't wait until the kids get back in school and I can plan my next trip!

Carla said...

I saw those lamps at Homegoods this weekend and my mouth fell open, gorgeous!!!
I think I must live by the first commenter because I have 2 of them as well. And now they are puting in a Goodwill down the street :) Eeek!

Your letter is cracking me up! I need to count my blessings since my HG is very close by.

You live in Grand Rapids? My daughter lives in Muskegan right by the lake. We go to Grand Rapids when we visit. I think a Home Goods would do well there. Our Home Goods is a 45 minute drive and it is also my favorite store.P.S. What school do you teach at? My daughter has subbed since she moved there after getting married in 2008.

I'm just going to add a vote here for Home Goods Seattle or Home Goods Redmond.

I don't even know how close a Home Goods store would be to me, but I know it's not close.

Anonymous said...

I love Home Goods. Don't hate me but I have both a Hobby Lobby and Home Goods with in cycling distance from me.

But I'd sell my soul for an IKEA.
(Well probably not *lol* but just sayin'.... )

AMEN Sistah! I just said this to my friend today while sitting at North Shore beach. Why in the world doesn't this area have a Homegoods? Who do we need to talk to?

Lea said...

Ditto, a hundred times! I just moved from being 10 minutes from a store to not even finding a store within 100 miles. I don't know how I will survive, I have decorated the majority of my home from that store. I am getting sad just thinking about.

~Mommy+Me~ said...

I feel for you! Homegoods is definitely a good place for home decor. We have one attached to a big TJ Maxx! I feel the way you do about IKEA, we don't have one in CO. They are getting ready to put one here, but about an hour away from me. :(

Julie said...

I loved your post! The Homegoods lamp section is the best!

Amanda said...

My mom lives in GR and when she visits me in WI, it's the first place she wants to go! She would gladly sign your petition!

Rachel said...

There is not ONE in the entire flippin' state of Oklahoma. Oklahoma City and Tulsa BOTH could have one...seriously, Home Goods people, PLEASE!!! Have mercy on us, the transplanted-from-Georgia, desperately-need-a-HomeGoods-crowd!

Sniffle

It is well over 150 miles for me to get to the closest one to me...down in Texas.

Sniffle.

Miranda @ Pressing On said...

Well, I have NEVER been to a Home Goods and I am dying to go. We just got one in Portland where I am from. And here I am stuck in Oklahoma.

Gah!! Home Goods looks just awesome.

Carmen @ Life with Sprinkles on Top said...

We don't have a Home Goods here either. BUT I have seen lots of fabulous lamps at Marshalls or TJ Maxx if you have one of those.

Unknown said...

Haha - I hear you on this one! I really do. That store...oh that store. It is almost too much.

Andrea said...

I want one here too! Come to Seattle HomeGoods! The closest store is in Oregon:( Way to far for me to go!

Ber said...

That's exactly how I thought about Hobby Lobby. I too live in a very populated area (Viva Las Vegas baby) and when I would read other people's blogs about how they got 'this' or 'that', like it was no big deal, at Hobby Lobby for a project, i would be green green green with envy. So I wrote them one day and begged for there to be a Hobby Lobby west of the Mississippi! Well, not really, because there are one's west of the Mississippi, but at least west of New Mexico!! And they wrote back and said there is one being built in Henderson Nv, a superb of Vegas....Hallelujah! I know if you bug Home Good's email enough, they'll build one just for you like Hobby Lobby did for me ;)
It opens here on Aug 16th and I'm as giddy as a kid on Christmas. Good luck and don't give up!!

Gal Fryday said...

Oh, don't get me started, girlfriend! While we have the Canadian version of HomeGoods, HomeSense, here in Newfoundland, Canada, the list of stores we don't have is endless! Hobby Lobby, Target, Ikea, TJMaax, Pottery Barn...the list goes on and on. My hubby complains about the shopping I do when we vacation in the states, but...c'mon! I can't be held responsible!

Carrie @carrieloves said...

I wish you all the best in getting a local Home Goods... ours is an hour away - but so worth the trip!

Astrid in Bristling Acres said...

Oooo!!! It'd be awesome if they opened one up in Grand Rapids! Now...I don't live in MI but my in-laws do and it'd be so much fun to go shopping with my SIL!

Katie said...

ha ha... yes I love Home Goods... but its hit or miss and I agree at times can be a bit over-whelming! I must admit I'm jealous of the tan chair you took a photo of... I've never scene a chair that nice in my HG in Florida! Sending positive vibes that HG will open closer to you soon!

Dear Chris,

Susan said...

I live in MA, the home to their headquarters. I'm lousy with those stores. The Homegoods & T.J. Maxx Superstores look NOTHING like the pictures you posted!

There are no Hobby Lobby's anywhere near us.

Pick your poison.

Mrs. Shelton said...

I love Home Goods! The closest Home Goods to me is 180 miles in my college town! I love it so much but I guess I should be glad we don't have one here. If we did...I would have wanted to purchase all of those lamps and my husband would have wanted a divorce! :)

Heather said...

We do not have a Home Goods in Cleveland, Ohio either. *frown* Columbus gets all the good stuff. It might be worth the two hour drive ...

Perfectly Jenn said...

If it makes you feel any better, I'm 2hours away from one myself and I live in Austin, TX!
The closest one is in San Antonio and they have two even! I don't understand it myself since I would be a great customer of theirs as well!

Carol said...

I feel your pain. How I wish I lived closer to a Home Goods also. I am about 2 hours away from one :( Then again, my husband is probably thrilled with this arrangement. As is my bank account!

christy said...

If it makes you feel any better, Phoenix only got our first Home Goods store about a year ago. We had TJM & Marshall's w/HG store, but not a stand alone store.

Anonymous said...

Well if it makes you feel any better I am boycotting homegoods right now!! I went into our home goods the other day and there was this beautiful chair? table? gosh now I don't even remember what it was NOT THE POINT it was on a platform with a sign that said "Save more. 30% off" I was like oh good they are marking things down! They do this! So I get to the register and she rings it up I say Oh I want to make sure thats 30% off... She said oh it is already... 30% off of Macy's! Um WHAT? THE WHOLE STORE IS LIKE THAT! Why did this have an extra sign that said 30% off.... Homegoods is a discount store! Everyone knows that! I was very very mad... I put everything down and walked out! You can't have a sign that says "30 % off" On a platform of furniture and then when you get to the register say "Yes off of Macys" .... GAH I am not over it yet!

I laughed out loud when I read this, again you're stealing the thoughts out of my head! I absolutely salivated when I clicked on your blog and saw those lamps.

I have been reading your blog for quite a while now and didn't even realize that you lived in GR until this post....here I was reading along and going "yes, I understand her feelings, etc", and then at the end I can see that you were speaking for ME!!! So, thanks for that.

I would totally support both a Home Goods and IKEA. It would be a huge risk to the bank account, but I would be a happier person - I am sure of it!!!

Dear Ikea,
Please read Chris' tribute to Home Goods above then apply the same to your lovely establishment that I may never see for myself because I would have to drive seven hours and then back again - most likely without buying anything because I probably would be overwhelmed by your amazing deals!
Whew. I'm glad I got that out, it had been building for some time now. :)

willowbird35 said...

I know how you feel, too. We don't have one around here either. The closest Ikea is Atlanta - over a 4 hour drive! Really wish these big chain stores would open up in smaller cities besides Atlanta, Philly, etc. Our city is pretty big and we have everything else!

Heather said...

I am with you -- my closest Home Goods is 3.5 hours away, right next to my closest Ikea. Sometimes it's lonely in the heartland....

Jenny @ Anything Pretty said...

Homegoods just may be my favorite store....the lamps...the mirrors...the bedding...and I could go on. I am so sad that you do not have one near you...one of my favorite activities is just browsing the store and see what is new.

I have no idea what I would do without homegoods in my town. I go there atleast twice a month. I feel for you and hope you get one soon!

So sorry, Chris. I feel that way about Ikea -- a 3 hour drive (on a good day) for us. :)

I have a HomeGoods just 30 minutes away, but it seems to be pretty messy and not well kept up. I might look at it in a new light now, after your post. ;-)

Bummer on Home Goods being so far away. A good trip to Home Goods can always make me feel better. I just featured you on my blog so go check it out.

You are too funny! I used to live near 3, yes, THREE HomeGoods when I was in Philly. Now....I have to drive back to Philly or Baltimore. I so feel your pain, loss, and grief on this one!

Do you drive to the Ann Arbor store? Because that is where we have to go too. Toledo could use one too Homegoods! Are you listening??

I live near Winston Salem, NC and we have Home Goods, World Market, and 20 minutes away in Greensboro, NC we have Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge. Ikea in Charlotte, NC is just under 1 hour away.

I may appeal to the Cheesecake Factory to move nearby.

Christy Wheeler said...

I went to homegoods yesterday. I didn't buy anything though... not because I didn't love everything but because my son filled his little diaper and they didn't have a changing table in their bathroom! Who doesn't have a changing table?! I left angry... but soon I will forget it and love the store again. So if you get a homegoods, make sure they install a changing table

Megan said...

I live in GR, too, and I'm constantly amazed and saddened that we don't have a HomeGoods!

So funny! My mom lives in Grand Rapids and I live in Detroit. She has to come visit once a month to go to Home Goods! She would gladly join your campaign for Home Goods Grand Rapids.

I live in California. I have a Home Goods near by. I really wish Hobby Lobby would come to my area. I always make a trip to Hobby Lobby when I visit my in-laws in Muskegon. My favorite store is Tai pan Trading. So far it is only located in Utah & CA, but is so awesome.
