Shopping at Habitat

Hubby’s gone, and my in-laws have taken my kids to Chicago for four days. As they pulled out of the driveway this morning, it took me about 3.4 seconds to jump in the car and go shopping!restores-3 I was excited to go to our local Habitat Restore for the first time.  If you don’t know what they are, it’s basically a store where builders/contractors donate building or home materials and sell them for less.  The money then goes back to help Habitat for Humanity.

They had tons of ceramic tiles. Floor tiles, bath tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles.

While the chandeliers were a bit dated, they certainly had a nice selection. This is just one area of them.

Anyone wanna reupholster some chairs? Uhhh…I DON’T. 558218720_1977899102_0

They even had rolls of fabric. I don’t know that I would use any of it, but it surprised me.558219099_1977900527_0

I was inches away from buying these cute light fixtures, but my husband is electrically challenged. They’d never get installed, but they were only $5.00!

My cousin recently bought a house and completely gutted it.  She replaced every single interior door from Habitat Restore. All the doors had come from an old school building. and they even had the skeleton keys still with them.  How charming, right?

I thought these cabinet doors would have been fun to use! They were a couple of dollars.

I thought for sure I had a picture of it, but they had an entire section of molding! Trim galore, people!

Sadly, I went to about 11 shops today, and the only thing I bought was an oil change. SO not fun.

I’ll be making up for it tomorrow with a trip to Ikea!  Yee Hee!

11 stores and nothing purchased? You've got some restraint girl!

Well I can't believe that either. You should have bought those $5.00 lights. We would find someone to install them! Can't wait to see pic of the kids bathroom. Just e-mail me a glimpse. You still have a girlfriend shopping day coming up, I'm sure you'll purchase something there.
Love ya, Mom

Wow, what a cool store! I love that those materials are being harvested with a 2nd chance of being salvaged and reused. Awesome!!

The school doors sound so charming. I'd love that!

I wish we had a Habitat ReStore here! That would be fun to check out! Since we rent, we can't do too much in our apartment...but I love looking at that kindof stuff to get ideas!

I'm going to have to check that out! I wish you would have bought those lights too, and then sent them to me. :-)

I still haven't been to our ReStore, but it's on the list of things to do!! My boyfriend and his dad go almost every weekend it seems because they're renovating his basement and they've bought light fixtures and doors galore there. His house was built in 1930 so it's a great place to find stuff that matches the house!

We would be perfect shopping partners - I go go go and rarely buy a thing. There is a habitat around the corner from my in laws. I should bale on one of their get togethers and go check that place out instead!

Looks like your store is WAY cooler then mine!

Wow, the people who run your Restore need to come to my town and give them some lessons on organizing and displaying. Ours is more like a dirty, dusty, stinky old barn with things shoved everywhere. Great post.

We have one and I LOVE it. The IKEA distribution center is in our town and we can't buy from there, so we have to drive 2 hours to the nearest one, however, IKEA donates items to our ReStore. And I have gotten such a steal on so many things there. I got a brand new white slip cover for $20!!

We have a habitat Restore that I have been DYING to make it into but can't seem to make it there before they close. I think, after seeing your pictures, Im going to have to make a point to get in there this weekend!

I have to get to our Restore. I know there is one and I even know what town it's in. I just have to plan it and go! It looks like they have some great stuff. I donated a couple of small bolts of fabric to Goodwill once, because I wasn't going to use it and why keep it. I was hoping a sewing person would find it and buy it. I definitely want a few cabinet doors. Lots of ideas for them in my head!

Do you know if anyone can just donate to them? I have about 6 gallons of paint I bought on OOPS dept that are all the wrong colors for my current home...wonder if I can just drop it off? Anyone know? ann at http://housefinally.blogspot.com/

Come on, girl! You can hang a light fixture. It's not hard, just easier if you have an extra pair of hands to hold the fixture while you swap the wires out.

That place looks amazing! I looked it up, and I think there are several in Atlanta, wonder if they are as cool as this one? ;)

I am so jealous of your Restore. Totally. I have one close by ("on the way" ahem, to work) but the prices are much more expensive compared to your's and not as great a selection. Alas.

I love our local Restore. I always find something interesting there but last week was the best...I found a door that matches exactly the doors in my 1940 something house! I plan to one day add a master bathroom and will need it!

I didn't know about this kind of store. I would love to go there and am dying to know if there's one in my area. I will have to do a good search. I could spend all day in a store like that just dreaming up room after room. Thanks for the info. I'm impressed you didn't buy a thing. That's willpower!

a Habitat store just opened up here...i had no idea they carried all of that...looks like i need to take a looksy! great stuff!

You are so lucky! Our Habitat ReStore is nothing like yours. They never have anything. I go there during my lunch once a week, hoping to catch something close to what I see on blogs that they have found. Nope. Always leave empty handed. No fabric at ours. Rarely any fixtures, too. Lots of old, boring cabinets with flat doors. Nothing with molding and no pure cabinet doors like you saw! Wow. If I had a ReStore like yours, I'd be buying something every week!! Lucky you! -Karen

We have a habitat store, but yours seems to be much more organized.

I have found some neat things there, but it takes some digging.

Just came across your blog and I've been reading past posts around the holiday time. Love the turkey plates from last year's table. I have the same plates, but I think yours are salad/dessert plates and I have dinner plates. They're oversized, which is perfect for Thanksgiving dinner! I can't wait for you to start posting Halloween decor. Reading your past posts I had to run out to The French Bee and get a skull that looks like mercury glass. I already have it out on the entry table.
