Remember when I purchased these beauties last summer and naively assumed I’d reupholster them? Notice how I just said “last summer”? Well, I finally finished one. One. And it nearly broke me.

I’m inches away (literally) from being done, but I ran short of some trim. Tomorrow, my dears.
In other news, I gave you a hint about my next project the other day. It’s come time to do some beadboard paneling in the kids’ bathroom. It’s a room with no windows, and it’s in need of some architectural help. Does beadboard really count as architectural?
I originally wanted the paneling to go horizontally. However, it’s a little intimidating since I’ve never even done beadboard before.
I’m hoping my FIL will help me, and he doesn’t do well with things done “differently”. So, it looks like it’ll be going vertical.
My question for you? Any advice you wanna give this novice beadboarder? I’m going pretty high with the height, and I’m replacing the baseboards entirely. Who knows why I just told you that. Maybe it’ll factor in on your advice?
P.S. I said “I” 15 times in this post. That’s ridiculous.

Go with horizontal!!! It's different, I like it, and it's your first choice. When you do a project, you want no regrets so jump in with both feet!!!!

We did vertical beadboard in our half-bath redo and absolutely love the finished product. We went fairly high as well with lots of chunky trim at the top.
I love it either way but horizontal sounds really fun and I'd love to see the end result... :)

Do go horizontal! You won't be happy if you settle with vertical. I can't imagine it would be that much more complicated...but then, I've never put up beadboard, vertically or horizontally :-)
Beadboard looks more intimidating than it is. You'll do great!
Go for it - beadboard is much easier than it seems.
Then again, it's easy for me to say that since my husband actually installed ours with no help from yours truly...
Layla at Letered Cottage is doing the HORIZONTAL planks in her bedroom right now & I think has an inspiration photo or two & I think they are STUNNING. If you go with vertical, you will love it too! I'm excited to see your finished product. All the advice I can give is to make sure to caulk the seams, it will really finish it off!
vertical is as good as horizontal, it all depends how things are done, when you attempt something, all you need to see is how to do it the right way
my advice is just to be sure you don't put it so high that you can't hang anything above it at a reasonable height....if you want to hang anything above it!
Lovin' the chairs! Can't wait to see how they turned out :)! And the bead board...great touch in a bathroom for sure - definitely consider hanging horizontal! It will look fabulous!
The good old fashioned vertical beadboarding comes in pre-made boxes which make it super easy to do and it looks great too, just not different. Horizontal is just a different look entirely so it's a choice you have to make. I can't wait to see your choice!

My husband and I just did beadboard in our laundry room and what we learned is-definetley glue it up rather than nail:makes for easier painting with less holes to fill in.
I LOVE the horizontal paneling - it's really great. Also - VERY excited to see those chairs!!!

Pop just asked me what you do with your time! I showed him your blog! You go girl. I agree with all the bloggers, go with your first choice of horizontal. Just tell FIL to turn sideways. Also, use glue. It will turn out great. Can't wait to see both, the chair and the paneling. You have me on the edge of my pc for sure.

I so badly want horizontal panels on my bedroom walls, and painted wood floors. My hubby wonders why we bought a new house, when I keep trying to make this one look old! :) I can't wait to see what you come up with, it will be great for sure!

It's easy...and frankly horizontal shoudn't be much harder than vertical (depending on width of space) Can't wait to see your chairs!
We did tongue and groove panels in my daughters room (I think they are 4 or 5in wide) and added a nice 1x2 on top with all new baseboards on bottom (ours was vertical). We bought the boards in long sections (12ft I think) and ended up with 4ft height I believe. It was a project...but we've never done anything like it and pulled it off (by "WE" I mean "he"). He used nail gun but he was annoyed with all the caulking and paint filling, so maybe glue would be better =) And the only other thing that was tough was boards that weren't totally straight...so watch for that.
We've had it for almost 3yrs and I'm getting ready to make her a farmhouse big girl bed to match the style in her room...still love the walls =)
My husband did all of our molding and baseboards. His tip for the small corner pieces is a hot glue gun. In the end you fill in the nail holes and spaces with spackle. The glue gun is perfect for those little tikes!
I am pretty sure they sell wall paneling (the wide) at Home Depot, kind of like what would be in a 1970's house, but I think I saw white too. What if you bought the sheets and installed horizontal. Good luck I bet it will look awesome.
