That Mess

Oh goodness. I think I should explain the mess in the dining room. I guess I assumed everyone hung on my every word and knew what the mess was from. Dar! Shame on me. Perhaps Carrie had it right?

Love the chairs and they are quite the bargain! I might be thinking you guys need an episode of Hoarders dedicated to you. I'm just sayin'.

I mentioned sometime ago (well, around 8 weeks) that my husband was leaving  for 8 weeks to fulfill his career goal. You know, just doing typical stuff like this.
 IMG_1090
No biggie, right? So his work uniform is a little different from my dress pants and heels. What do you mean you can’t tell which one he is?! I’m offended.

IMG_1104

Friday was his graduation from the training, and they thought it would be fun to rappel from an 8-story building in front of their wives and children. Hilarious.

IMG_3592

That’s him on the right. Again, with the “I can’t tell”? I’m annoyed with you.

IMG_3599

While I’m awfully proud of him, my most prevalent feeling is happiness that he’s finally home. This whole single, working mom is for the birds.  Well, birds who are really hard working. And don’t need any sleep.

IMG_3695

So that’s why my dining room is a mess. It’s temporary or it’s divorce. If I step on one more tube of camo paint or see another gun belt on my couch, I just might send him back to training.  Maybe.

On a side note, I will exercise my right and absolute power to delete any comments that are spam or that say my kids look exactly like my husband. Consider yourself forewarned. :)

Wow! That's awesome what he is doing! A BIG congratulations to him and his hard work and dedication!

Pat on the back to you for taking good care of the home and kiddos all alone for that many weeks. Moms are pretty awesome super heros too.

That's pretty funny! As I was looking at the picture of your family I was just thinking "Man, her kids look exactly like.." oh nevermind!

Your kids look exactly like your husband.

Sorry.

But it had to be said and if you need to censor me, so be it. ;)

I had my kids alone for the weekend and YIKES. I hear ya on the single mom thing.

Wow, Chris! You must be so proud. . . and he must be so proud of you. Thank you for providing this little glimpse into the sacrifices that law enforcement officials and their families make. The abilities these guys must possess in order to do their jobs are not ones that are obtained easily, are they?

This is a wonderful photo of your family. Your kids look like both of you! It's as if God took part of you and part of your husband and painted a picture of what a boy child and a girl child of the two of you would like. They're beautiful!

Congratulations on finishing this period in your life--and good luck on getting the house back to normal. :)

Congrats to the hubby! I know what it is like to have a husband gone for weeks on end. Can you say hello railroad?

And your kids do look like your husband:) I had to say it because the one child that I had came out looking like his father and 16 years later, I still get people telling me that he looks just like him. lol!

How awesome is that?? I bet you are so proud of him! And I think your son looks just like him, your daughter looks just like you. :)

And my son looks IDENTICAL to my husband -- from day one. So I feel ya. :)

You're so funny! I just kept waiting for you to say "he's the hot one in the uniform," I know what it is like to have your hubby come home & feel like you have walked into a war zone. My hubby is in the Army & he has been gone 3 or 4 months of the year for the last 9 years for various trainings with a couple year long deployments thrown in. When he gets home I feel like an Army bomb has gone off in every room. It isn't until he leaves again that I get things cleaned up again. Oh, well, we love our men! Congrats to him on fulfilling a dream & to you for keeping your family together! As a side note, your kids are so cute! They look just like... well, you know! :)

Congratulations to him! and you! and those beautiful children!

And they don't look exactly like him. I'm mean, sure there's a resemblance (read: holy smokes), but you're in there too! :)

Really, a huge congratulations to both of you. Thank goodness for people like you both!

Christy Wheeler said...

Hehe as I was reading the "I will delete any comments that say my children look exactly like my husband" guess what I was thinking... Well I was actually thinking that you have beautiful kids. They really are quite good looking. And congrats on getting your hubby home.

Congratulations to you and your husband! It is such an accomplishment.

And I totally know how you feel about the single mom thing. My husband did deputy training for 8 months last year and we just saw him on the weekends. It was hard. Now he's back in the military and is deployed for 5 weeks overseas. I don't like the single mama thing either.

Oh, and I have kids that look just like their Daddy too. I consider myself just an incubator for at least 2 of the 4-lol.

Enjoy being together again!

I cannot believe how much your children look like you - amazing. This post of your made me giggle...you can't be annoyed with ME - I totally knew which one was your hubby. Duh.

Congrats to him for a great achievement and more so to you for your support and 8 weeks of making it through single motherness! I'm sure you'll be whipping up a cute little "camo paint" tag for his stuff before you can say "move your junk to the garage, Mr."

Hoarders??? Not even. Yeah, my kids look nothing like me.. Congratulations to your husband, that is so awesome. And I am glad you survived through it all.

I think I would freak out if my husband was repelling off of that building!!! Whoa. You must really be proud- and happy he's home:)

Momma said...

Oh blerg. I totally get it. I had to be a singe mom for 3 months while my husband was out of state for work and I'm pretty sure I cried the ENTIRE time. It was horrifying and gave me a reason to hug military wives.

Kris said...

What a riot and way to go to your hubby. My son looks so much like my husband that I forget I was even there sometimes!!

Susan said...

Congratulations to your husband and your family!!! I know you're so proud of him! I'm the mom of a police officer, LAPD, and I'm so proud of him too. God Bless!

Debra said...

Congratulations to your husband. It's hard for them to be gone. Even with one child and my husband gone for the weekend it's hard. Sometimes I think he doesn't do that much around here but clearly he does or it wouldn't be so hard...

Michelle said...

Wow, Congratulations to you both for making it through your own triumphs.
XoXo
PS< Has anyone ever told you how much your kids look like your husband... lol

Congrats to your hubby. It's kinda hard to get back in the swing of things when they've been away that long, isn't it?

Your kids are adorable. I've been reading your blog for a while now, and I just have to say that I can't believe how tall your son is now!

And your family is gorgeous.....they look like....you! :-)

GREAT family picture. Congrats to your husband. I am sure you are glad he's home.

As for your kids, I always thought you son looked liked your husband but I always saw "your" eyes and your spirit in your daughter's pictures.

My son looks exactly like his father, there was only one time in my life when anyone said he looked like me and that was an 8 year old little girl in the church choir. It was the nicest compliment I ever received.

Your post made me smile! Congrats to your husband for such a great accomplishment!! My husband is currently deployed to Iraq, for what will be, 14 months when it's all said and done with. As of today, we still have 38 weeks left until he returns....but I am glad to see someone else thinks this single mother stuff is for the hard working, non-sleeping birds. I seem to be acquiring more gray hair and wrinkles faster than any woman should these days!!!! ;-) Cute post!! I am one of your dedicated followers!

Glad he made it through everything safely. And your son looks like you. Really.

I understand, I think I was just the carrier for my husband's kids. ;)

Chris, congrats to both of you for surviving the training!! I'm not even going to get started on who your kids look like, but let's just say your husband could never deny his involvement. xoxo

Ya, someone hasn't read your blog and obviously hasn't seen all your fabulous organization skills.
OK - you can delete my comment, so I don't go getting any of my own snippy comments.
Have a great day and congrats on getting through the weeks alone with the kids and the dog. :)

As a single, full time working mommy, I appreciate your comment about how tough it can be. It also makes me feel better why I can't even compete or even copy your creative genious! Congrats to your husband (my dad is retired law enforcement)! Okay, off to adore your blog some more

Congrats to him! My husband is from MI and taught at MSU for a short while. I taught a class in that building once! It was an emergency childbirth what-to-do class to an auditorium full of mostly male policemen. Yeah!?

Just think, you get to reclaim your dining room just in time to wrap Christmas presents.

Congrats to you all for making it through.

Congrats to that wonderful hubby of yours and may God keep him safe everyday!! My hubby was law enforcement for 31 yrs so I know that you too will need Gods blessings. He has chosen a truly wonderful path and I THANK HIM VERY MUCH.

Just found your blog...and am sucked in because our hubbys seem to have the same career path! Mine has had that darn "gunbelt on the couch" habit for way too long now. I best break him of it one of these days! Thanks for reminding me! ;o)

I'm off to read some more.

I was actually gonna say, it's funny how your kids are lined up with you guys in the picture, because I think your son looks a bit more like you and your daughter looks a bit more like your husband!
Congrats to him! And you know what, my husband hasn't been to basic anything except for basic hunting season and I'm still considering sending him packing if I find any more camo 'decorations' in my livingroom.

Congrats! Now I would have said your son looks just like you, and your daughter well looks like the man in the picture HA HA! Awesome family pick.
