The Valentine’s Touch

So….Valentine’s Day is coming. I wasn’t even going to put anything out until my daughter reminded me that “it’s a holiday, Mom” “that’s what we do.” Huh. Who’s her mother?!

I’ve expressed my feelings before about Valentine’s Day. Small. Doses. It won’t work if it looks like Cupid threw up all over your house. Unless you like Cupid. And vomit.

beaded heart

I guess if your house looked like this, what difference would just a little more red make?

I find that I’m pretty conscious about how I go about this holiday that too many people overdo holiday of love. A small touch of red or hearts can go a long way. Case in point?

Valentine's decoration

One of my favorite decorations is one that has a little ribbon to hang it from. I think they’re pretty universal. Anywhere you have a little knob or thin candle, these hang wonderfully! There’s usually a feather ornament here, but this little heart does quite well in its place.

floral heart

Why, yes. That frame does still say Hobby Lobby. Why, no. I don’t plan on changing it anytime soon.

valentines decor

Well, looky here. Another heart from a ribbon. The frame houses a picture of my husband and me, but we don’t mind being smothered by a giant beaded heart.

valentines ornament

It’s a cute touch, and it can easily be removed. On February 15th. At 12:01am.

beaded heart

I finally tried my hand at a pennant craft, and it nearly broke me. I couldn’t figure out what I wanted, but I think it turned out cute (and simple). I used my Silhouette to cut out the flags (genius!), and stuck some little letters on there. Done.

valentine pennant

I used thin jute/twine, and it wasn’t quite the effect I was going for. It works, though, and I’m liking it in this space.

love pennant

A little touch here, a little dash there. I can live with that.

I always think of you when I put up Valentine's Day decorations and the quote about Cupid throwing up! So hilarious. Small doses for me as well!

Very cute ideas. I don't decorated for the different holidays. I think you have added the right amount of things to make it cute and not overly done.

Have a good week.

Haha...GOOD! Now I don't feel like the only "Valentines Scrooge"! Glad to know others share the same feelings...now you've inspired me to not totally ignore it (although my husband probably wouldn't mind!)

Small doses, I totally agree and actually if I didn't have kids I wouldn't do anything for Valentine's Day. :)

I love the little touches instead of going overboard too. Your little accessories are so pretty!

Very sweet and well done! I'm not one to decorate at all for Valentine's Day, but I am inspired for just a touch :-) Thanks!

I have two frames with no pictures, for quite some time now. My sister finally asked me if I just buy the frames because I like them. Maybe I do...

I love your take on Valentine's Day decor! I'm not much of a girly girl myself, but a few homey touches can be festive without being frou-frou. Very nice.

Ah, I agree about the moderation of pink and red frilly hearts all over! I've been tossing around how to do the mantle for Valentine's, but anything more than a few touches seems juvenile. (And I have no children, so no excuse! LOL)

Robin said...

That's the way to do it! Yes, too much of the heart, love, cupid....oh gag me with it all, stuff is just, well, too much! Was that enough commas??

You. are. SO. funny.

"That's what we do." Apparently, your daughter inherited your dry sense of humor. Aren't you glad?

I agree with you regarding Valentine's Day. (I started to type V.D., but then I realized that those are the initials for something I don't really want to talk about.) A little goes a long way. Your little touches are just right for a bit of festivity without being over the top. Not even a hint of Cupid vomit. :)

These little touches are a great idea for Valentine's Day! Especially after everyone's burnt out from the post holidays decorating!! That little Love banner is too cute!

Totally in agreement on the "less is more" philosophy for Valentines decor! I like your small touches. I also feel so much better to see that there is someone else that leaves frames on display with total strangers in them! I have one in my laundry room that has been that way for, oh, I don't know...3 years maybe?!?!

I'm so with you on this one! Tiny touches say the most! The last thing I want is my home looking like Valentine Vomit! I love all your ideas.

Great job!

Love the "just a touch" ! Love that chrystal ball lamp, hmmmm, I think we shop at the same store! I love mine, I have two in fact. One I spray painted with silver paint, then roughed it up with Steel Wool, it came out really great. Love the blog! Thank you for sharing. -K

Really simple, but VERY cute! Love them all! Great ideas! I LOVE to celebrate anything & everything, but don't really decorate for V-day, other then the kids decorations of random crafts! I love what you did to make it fun, but not too much! :)
