A reveal of its own...

In case you haven't noticed, I don't post much personal stuff on here. To be quite honest, I just don't think you'd be all that interested. I know...I'm not giving you enough credit. But if you don't know someone, isn't it more fun seeing decorating ideas than the millionth picture of my daughter eating breakfast? I just need to get over it, right? I love all your personal posts and pictures. I've pretty much designated this as primarily a decor/shopping post, but we'll see what the future brings.

Having said all that (whew), I'm reaching out to my blog friends for some good thoughts. Here comes the reveal--my husband is an MMA fighter (Mixed Martial Arts). This basically means that he gets into a large cage with no protective gear and fights, grapples, chokes, kicks, wrestles, and submits until the weaker opponent goes down. And then there's me--I cry at a hangnail.

( I don't know these scary men, but they were very nice.)
Above is the cage he fought in during his last fight. Below is the only picture I have of him (blurry sweatshirt walking by), because I was so nervous. And by nervous, I had to call in sick two days later because I think the stress of it brought on the flu.
He won that fight, (with only a bruise above his eye) but it was three rounds of him just punching and choking the other guy until I thought I was just going to pass out. Don't get me wrong, my husband is the strongest, toughest, and most capable man I know, but all it takes is one wrong hit or kick. To us, he's this:
And he's this:
And to me, he's this:

So please excuse the lack of posts (or at least lack of eye candy ones) this week. His fight is Friday and my daughter's birthday party is Saturday. Basically, I have been a crying, nervous wreck for the past two days. If you have some kind of a faith base in your life, perhaps you could pray that he'll make it through this competition alright. And then maybe you could say a little prayer that his wife doesn't fall into a stress-induced coma in the meantime. Either way, a good thought from some extra people would help ease my mind (and heart) just a little bit. Thanks for letting me "reveal" something aside from my SO not done bathroom cabinets!

Chris, you poor girl!! I don't know how you do it. That must be so hard because you want to be supportive but who wants to see their husband be (potentially) hurt? Plus a b-day party to plan...you need a massage and a glass of wine. Now! I will say a prayer that your hubby comes out perfectly fine. He will! :)

No WAY. Veto watches that all the time... what goes through my mind... "some poor woman is that guy's mother or wife" and I just get frantic even watching!!! I don't know how you can stand it.

Well, good luck and take care, that's all I can say. Yeeesh.

Oh man...I'd be a nervous wreck too! HOW SCARY!! I'm not even sure what an MMA fighter is but the description you gave sure doesn't sound like fun. You will definitely be in my thoughts. Hope the fight goes very, very, VERY well on Friday. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed!

Woah!!! That is a little scary. I would be a nervous wreck too. I have goosebumps thinking about it. I have never even seen an MMA fighter, but I am assuming it's a bit crazy. I don't mean to be rude but I guess I am just curious as to why he does it? Good luck and may the force be with you!! :)

I've never heard of this before. Does he do it because there is money in it or is it a macho thing? I don't think I could go with and watch either. Maybe he'll outgrow it LOL. Good luck

Wow. My hubby watches MMA all the time too. I've always thought how strong their wives must be. I guess you end up being a combination of proud, supportive and scared to death.

I just recently found your blog. I alwasy see so many ideas I want to totally steal. Oops. I mean "use for inspiration". ;)

I'm saying a prayer for him to win his fight, and for you too. It's got to be hard.

I would seriously have to wear Depends to watch my husband do that. I would PEE MY PANTS I would be so scared.

That is a pretty sexy thing though, ag uy who can do that and protect you? And be a sweet dad and husband? I love guys like that. Dan does not fight (at all) but the tough guy thing is something I love in him.

Good luck with the birthday party...can't wait to see what you do for hers!!

Hi Chris,
I think you and hubby make an adorable couple.

I have been following your blog only a couple of weeks...what attracted me was the decorating ideas first. But I don't mind getting to know other bloggers a little at a time either.

I've noticed that your a teacher. I am a retired one who recently went back for a while. So, I understand what kind of stress is in your life.

Hope you make it through all this just fine. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Awww, many many good thoughts coming your way for sure! I kind of wondered about him, there was that one toothless picture that upped my curiosity (in a good way) and now I know it's more exciting than you tossing a frying pan at him! LOL! Anyway, I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers -- and do let us know how it all goes!

I can relate with this post! My husband is very extreme and always pushing the limits physically/athletically. Fun, yet scary to be his wife at times:)
BTW...thanks for your comments:)

Oh goodness, I think I would quite literally faint if my husband were the one in there. I've heard of this, but I don't have the stomach for watching it. Many kudos to you!!

I blog-hopped my way over here and just love your blog. You got me hooked on Wordle--I already printed out one that is going in my bathroom.

I am not sure I could even go into an arena where my husband was choking the life out of someone with the possibility of it happening to him! Sheesh.

The two of you make a beautiful couple!

I love your blog....even without all the personal stuffs. I do like me some personal stuffs though! Your ideas are amazing and I love your bargain hunting expertize.

OMG!! I don't know how you do it. I would totally be freaking out the whole time. I won't even let my husband get a motorcycle. I know its all about being supportive and all that, but wow, you are one strong lady. My husband is totally getting into watching that. I asked him, "What are the rules?" His response..."There are no rules." I will totally say a little prayer both for him to stay safe, and you to stay sane.

Best of luck to your husband on his fight and to your all on the party. I hope everything goes smoothly for you. I definitely do notknow how you have the strength to go watch I could never.

WOW what a gorgeous couple you guys are...I mean really such beautiful people. It's amazing what a tough guy hubby can put you through without even meaning too. He probably thinks you're silly for worrying about him...but I can't imagine how hard it must be for you. I couldn't even watch, so I think you're very brave that you go to support him! I'll be thinking good thoughts for you both

I'd be nervous also.
I am not sure what's worse ... watching a fight he has entered and trained for or watching him leave for a business trip. With the training you know he can be somewhat prepared but with travel who knows what the heck can happen .. you can't prepare for that. I am always so relieved when he walks through that door after a trip.

Hi Chris,

WOW! Had no idea. What a stressful job he has! It must be really tough for you. How do you do it? I would really freak out.

I hope your party for your daughter is just wonderful. You can do it!

Sending lots of prayers and positive thoughts for your husbands fight this weekend.

I like it that you are posting something personal. It really helps to let it out. It is not easy I know. It was hard for me to post about Gabby having Autism. I think it is on my other blog.

Life doesn't always turn out the way you dreamed it would. I would never trade my life thought!

This is so cool! Hubby and I watch MMA all the time on television. Of course, I have no idea how you deal with your husband being in the octagon, but kudos to you and your husband!!!

Now, I'm dying to see your finished bathroom cabinet - what color are ya paintin'????

This is my first time to visit your blog but I like it. I came here from someone else that had you on their blogroll. I am going to do a post in a few days recommending a few blogs to my readers and I would like to include you. Would that be okay? I have a lot of ladies that enjoy decorating as my (very small) reader base.

Prayers are always helpful, but I'll also give you some other encouragement. My cousin is a MMA fighter who has been in the UFC (don't ask if he won. poor subject) No matter how bad he looked, he was always okay! It's scary to watch, but if you try to learn a bit about the technique, it's less scary and more interesting. I've enjoyed looking at your blog. Wish I could do something similar. :) Take care.
