5am is really early

Summer is officially over. As I wipe the tears from my eyes (literally), I take some solace in the fact that we sent it out with a bang yesterday. Our friends are rich and we are not, so we jumped on the chance to go boating with them yesterday. The kids had a blast (as did the adults), but now it's over. Hopefully, you all had a nice Labor Day weekend.

My son is not as cool as he thinks. The "peace" sign is an obsession lately. I'm pretty sure he doesn't even know what it means.

I spent today getting ready for tomorrow. Isn't that how it goes? My last day of summer break is actually my first day back because I've been working my butt off all day getting ready for our "first day"! You following me here? Well, I thought I'd show you something that has changed my life. Our school drawer is what I have developed in order to make lunch making a little easier on me. And here it is...

Pretty complex concept, huh? I put all the elements needed to make lunches for the next day into one drawer. I know, I know...I'm a genius. It seems simple, but really--it's heaven sent. Isn't it amazing how something so little can make us moms feel like we just hired a full-time nanny?? Open up the lunch drawer, throw in some fruit and juice, and run out the door because mom's late for work again!! (Insert squealing tire sound here.)

While I'm on the subject of pure genius, I might as well advocate for this little...umm...thingy. I originally started doing this because my husband used to get the kids ready for school since I had already left. I'm sure all your husbands are just dreamy perfection, but MY husband has no idea how to pick out clothes. I'd come home and find out that my daughter was sent to pre-school with a Tiger's jersey on and some polka dot leggings with a hole in them! That's just blaspheme!! Since the purchase of this gadget, things have gone a little smoother. However, I'm still convinced that my husband tries to look like he's inept at doing something so that I'll just do it myself, but that's a whole other Jerry Springer show. Well, I'm off to look over lesson plans for tomorrow and then spend my entire night dreaming about students that I can't control and showing up to work naked.

I think I might need the drawer for my lunch. I alwyas think I have everything only to have to run down to the cafeteria amidst the kids. And I use the clothing organizer for my son, whi has a tendency to be monochromatic.

Great organizing! I don't have to get kids ready for school yet, but I'm going to try to remember this for when I do.

No lunch drawer here, but I have the same type of closet hanger for the boys. I do their laundry every Sunday and they get to help choose their outfits for the week and it all goes neatly in. It has been a lifesaver and the ender to the question yelled from upstairs "MOM! What matches with....?" (Yes I have given my 5 year old a hang up about matching. My future daughter in law will thank me.)

And no - I am not trying to ride your Tip Junkie coat tails. I REALLY do that! You just posted it first. Dang it. See, this is why Gayle gets the bad warp, Oprah does everything first! :)

Sounds like a fun last hoorah. We have 2 days left. Yikes! I'm ready & I'm not ready, ready, not. I don't know.

Love the drawer idea. You truly are a genius!

Ok so If you are Oprah and Kris is Gayle....who can I be??? I hope your first day proves to be great. Those students will loved their well clothed on time teacher. My first week back was last week and it went well. You just forget how much your feet really can hurt. I hope my pre-k kids didnt forget over the holiday that their mommys always come back and walking in a line is very easy to do. Yikes, I bet they forgot all I taught them last week!

Nice ideas for when my kiddo gets to that point...although the clothing thing might be a good investment, since my husband is capable of screwing up outfits constantly. Where are Garanimals when you need them? (he'd probably mismatch those too)

Have a great first day back, as much as you can! I was back a little last week, but didn't have husband and child around to mess with.

I am completely cracking up. I have accused my husband for YEARS of purposely screwing things up so he can get out of doing them. I KNOW it's true. :o) My son is in 7th grade and I still lay his clothes out the night before. I have to. The boy can't match clothes to save his life. How hard is it to figure out, really? I love your lunch drawer. I just have a snack drawer... or rather a spot in the pantry for lunch snacks. It works like a charm! I can always see when things are low and what I need to replace. Sorry for the book. Have a great first day at school!!

You know there is an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" about how he pretends not to know how to do things...I think all husbands are like that. Love the clothing organizer idea! I might try that with my daughter. Thanks!

Don't forget you can make certain sandwiches, bag, and freeze them. You can do that to pbj sandwiches, then you just need to pull it out of the freezer, stick in their box and it will be defrosted by lunch. Think of those smuckers premade ones. :) You can do this with ham and cheese, etc...only don't add any mayo obviously.

Looks like everyone had a fabulous time at the lake. wish i was in the tube with the kids. I laughed so hard at your dream of teaching uncontrolable kids naked! You must have inherited your dreams. I never seem to have any clothes either.HE HE HE HE......great lunch drawer idea too. PS.. didn't I tell you, that is what your dad always did. He would mess up the job royally and then I would do it myself. Actually men are brilliant when it comes to getting out of a job. Why couldn't we do that. MOM

Ha ha!! I love the clothes organizer! I left on a trip once, left out clothes for each day for each child.. I came home and realized my husband had let them dress themselves instead of putting on what I left out.. so, I can totally relate!! Have a great weekend!

Maybe you've already answered this, but where did you get that clothes organizer? I need some of those for my children.
