Wait for Me!

Believe me, I love Christmas--Christmas music, the snow, the lights, the shopping--but I'm feeling rushed. It's not even Thanksgiving yet and people already have their Christmas trees up! Sometimes I feel that we bloggers can get ahead of ourselves when it comes to holiday decorating. I found myself becoming guilty of that, and I'm stepping back.

I LOVE fall decorating. I feel like it blends well into my colors, so it's an easy one to do. I switch out a little decorative grass for some decorative pinecones, and I add a couple of velvet pillows. Not much, but it warmifies it a bit (hopefully, you're starting to get the sense that I like to make up my own words).

Wheat is my favorite fall decoration and wouldn't ya know...I couldn't find any in a bundle! I went to Wal Mart and bought these for, like, $3.00, but it's just not what I was looking for. I had to cut 'em way down, and they were a mess. If you breathe on the arrangement too hard, it falls over.

I started the mantle with the print. It was $11.00 at Hobby Lobby, and I was IN love. It's a big print, and I was too cheap to buy a 24x36 inch frame. So....I scoured the clearance section and found one with no glass for $13.00. I took the wrapping off the print, glued the corners to the white cardboard it came with and called it done. Don't look too closely!
I've had the lantern since summer clearance, and I've been waiting to use it. I found the candle at Meijer for $4.00. I tried to get a picture that shows there are orange sticks in it. It was made for me. Oh, just one more. We can't forget my love for glitter. Notice the pumpkin and the pear? Just a little touch--nothing obnoxious.

I didn't do much in the kitchen. I changed out my Halloween cloche decoration for some pinecones and hung a new sign.
My dining room is not "fall compatable", but it's a good spot to accessorize. I tried to use some more muted colors, but it doesn't "blend" as well as other rooms. Oh well. All in the name of decorating!
That's a large portion of the fall-ified house. I mean, I know we should be getting our cupids out for Valentine's Day, but I didn't think a little
would hurt us. Get it? "Autumn"? I showed the picture instead of...ok, maybe not.

Such beautiful decorations.

I understand what your saying. We have friends that have put up their Christmas lights and tree.

I have to admit though that I am ready to start decorating for Christmas because it all is so "cheery" and beautiful. I can't take down the fall decorations though becasue we are having family here for Thanksgiving.

It all looks nice. I really like the pillows!

I used to wait until mid-December to put up c-mas stuff, because it just didn't seem right to do it before my birthday (beginning of Dec.). Over the last few years, I've slowly started decorating the weekend of thanksgiving. Mainly because that's when I had time. It's just hard for me b/c I have SO many c-mas decorations that I have to rearrange stuff, and come 2 weeks into December, I'm ready to get my house back to normal. ;)

I LOVE your blog and all your craft ideas! I have gone through every single one of your posts at least three times and I keep finding something new each time. I am going to try and make the stars with scrapbooking paper. Thanks for the great idea!

Oh Chris, you're not the only one who hasn't jumped on the band wagon. It's our tradition to put the Christmas decorations up the day after Thanksgiving...not a minute sooner. Now that doesn't mean that we don't have some festive holiday music playing on XM, but I'm just saying :) I have a very confused 2 year old who thinks Santa is coming any minute now and I haven't even thawed out the Thanksgiving turkey! By the way...LOVE your mantel. That print is gorgeous!!

Looks great!

My 5 year old even asked why the stores have out all the Christmas stuff and nothing for Thanksgiving. It doesn't help that half the businesses and neighborhoods around here already have their wreaths and garland up.

Thanks for stopping by the other day and leaving a comment. Made me smile!

I couldn't agree with you more. I am so tempted to start posting about Christmas decor but I am trying to hold out and only do Autumn decor, autumn table decor etc.. We just got home from being out of town and there are three neighbors with their Christmas lights up and on. I do love it though and it is alot of work to get the house ready and only have it up for a couple of weeks so I see their points.

Love your decorations...really really nice.

I hear ya sista! Your house looks beautiful all fancy in fall colors. I have to confess... my tree is up. When I was young my Mom always made us wait until my birthday to decorate. That would be the middle of December. I always said when I grow up I will put my tree up when I wanna. I guess I told her, hehe.
That's not why I put it up so early now. I just have so many shows starting in Oct. all the way until Dec. I also help out with backdrops for our Christmas plays. I guess what Im trying to say is I just have to fit it in when I can. I cant wait till after Thanksgiving ... then I get to see more of your prettys... Take care~

Please do share where you got those lovely pillows on your sofa. I need to get me some pillows to punch up my ever so bland and boring beige leather sofa. (can you say blah???).

Happy Autumn!

(oh...I made a few more fall things...

I'm having such a hard time celebrating two Thanksgivings (Canadian at the beginning of October and American at the end of November). Around our home, people have their trees up, their lights and all of the outdoor Christmas doo-dads. I too feel it's way to early for all of that. I love Fall toooo much. Loved to see what you did to decorate. That print is great. I wish there was a HL near me!

You are a riot! I think it looks nice. Tonight my girlfriend and I had dinner and then walked around our town center. All the C-mas decor was up including the tree!!! Wha?! Already? All the stores had their decor up too. We walked past Pottery Barn and as we did our bow/kneel of worship to the gods that created that store and everything in it, we were so pleased that it was Autumnified. Btw, my Mr. makes up words and it usually ends in -ified. So, anyway, back to decor...we laughed and said should we say thanks to them for giving thanks? Ummm, weird are we? Yeah, thought you might've said that. ha

Megan said...

I think your dining room is my favorite. I love the pop of orange pumpkins with the blue!

Amanda@Imperfectly Beautiful said...

Your warmified, fallified, touches of Autumn are beautimus! Hey...I like to make up words too. I am one of those crazy freaky bloggers who just couldn't wait any longer to start decorating for Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I love the warm fall decor, but since I've had Halloween and Fall stuff out since September...I needed a change! Whew...that was one very long run on sentence.

Christmas decorating just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...it drives hubby up the wall!

You are so right! I am feeling rushed by the Christmas season too....Great Reminder of all things Fall!!!

Tardevil said...

I've had to rush into Christmas the last several years too, not because I don't enjoy Turkey day, but because when I travel, if it's not done before I leave, I'm over-stressed when I return. Love all your decor, especially the signs. The picture is awesome too. I saw a painting similar to that this weekend, and it was awesome. Your mantel rocks!

Chris, I love all of your decorations!! I have to admit, I started decorating last week for Christmas. There IS a good reason behind my madness, but now I'm kinda wishing I could savor Thanksgiving too. But we're leaving this Sunday for my in-laws for the entire week of Thanksgiving, so we wouldn't be enjoying it for too long anyway. I do have a Thanksgiving banner hanging in my dining room BEHIND my Christmas tree though!! I made it a few weeks ago with my daughter. We're gonna take it to my in-laws and have everyone write on a pennant what they are thankful for and draw a picture. :)

Anyway, that was loooooonng! But I love your decorations! :)

I'M WEIRD?!! YOU, missy, are a total dork. But I agree, Christmas is feeling rushed, maybe because you need the time to make all the cute things seen in blogland. But if you even had a clue to my Thanksgiving plans you would know why I am rushing Christmas. You would do the same. I really love those gold glitter trees on your buffet table. They look perfect there. Once again, your house looks beautiful and so "falltastic." (my made up word of the day)
