The Dresser

After stalking Sarah and hailing Joyce, I got my own dresser. Remember this?

I found baskets, but I didn't like the shade. So..I painted them.
I present you with the final product!

Apparently, replacing a drawer with baskets is a LOT more work than it seems. I had to have the wood cut, I had to paint it, I had to buy brackets to put the wood in place, and my husband had to fight with it to make it level. NOT as easy as it would seem.
However, it was totally worth it. I'm still debating whether I want to keep it white or paint it cream to match my table and chairs. The weather has made me keep it white for now.
Remember those Christmas baskets I bought for .50 cents? Here they are in their green glory.

This was supposed to be for my kids' supplies, but it's turned into my craftroom on legs. If they're lucky, they'll get the top baskets, I guess.

Was the reveal worth the wait? Probably not. Was it worth it having a dresser in my kitchen? Totally.

It looks great. My only suggestion would be to think about replacing the drawer pulls with something similar to the drawer pulls you have in the kitchen. It may give it a less dresser look. I really do love it and would like one for my breakfast room.

Sherri said...

I LOVE it! Adore it. Actually I'm coveting it, if I am honest 'bout it. Would look great in my new studio. Finding a spot for it might be an issue. Heck, I'll just toss out the bed. Send it on to Gawga! teehee! Thanks for sharing.

We have an old dresser in our kitchen as well. It was one my husbands grandfather made when he was ten. It's a little wobbly, but it's so wonderful. We keep all our napkins, napkin rings, season table decor, etc in there. I like the idea or having craft storeage in the kitchen. I have my own craft room but I always end up painting on the kitchen counter.

I can't tell you how excited I am to see this post. My daughter has a dresser that we got right when she was born. It's a pretty nice dresser and was given to us as a hand-me-down from one of my old 2nd graders. Anyway, we've fixed the bottom drawer so many times, I've lost count. We were just about to give it way because we're tired of fixing the drawer. But now I know we can try the basket idea. It looks so nice and I really think it will be functional (especially if we use it in the toy area!). Thanks! And HAPPY SITS DAY!

The dresser is really nice. And, I think dressers are completely underrated as furniture for other rooms. We have a nice dresser in our living room to serve as the place where our TV goes, along with picture frames. In the drawers we keep kids toys and movies/DVD's. SO functional. Plus, if we ever want to move it, we can use it someplace else (unlike an entertainment center!)
