Oops. Sorry. I haven’t posted in a few days. Wrestling season officially begins tomorrow. As a coaches wife, that means widow season. So, I spent some time cherishing what it feels like to have a husband. Now…back to work!
Over the summer, I bought some decorative wood pieces that needed some love. The tray, I turned into this. The wall pocket, I turned into this. If you look closely at the back two, you’ll see that they fit into a fall theme perfectly. However, the wood just didn’t seem right.
I slapped some leftover paint on there and sanded it down to my liking. As a matter of fact, I’ll probably sand it some more.
I’m pretty sure the box was $1.99, but I could only imagine what a “normal” store would charge for something like this.
Oh yeah—if you ever want to spruce up some every day candles, simply wrap some floral or berry garland around them. I bought this at Michaels for $1.00 last year, and it’s just enough to say, “Hi. I’m a candle. I’m celebrating fall.”

Great job, I love all your crafts! :)
Girl, I continue to be amazed at how thrifty and creative you are! And I am forever passing your site on to friends and our daughters!! Have a great week, Chris!
*GASP* I love it all!!!
Fun stuff!
I bought those same candle wraps!!
I hear you on the widow thing. My husband is a band director and we haven't had a Friday night together since August! Love the ideas!
Love the berry garland idea. I need something for my Ugly Christmas sweater party this weekend!
Hate to say it...but I kinda like you as a wrestling widow.
Purely selfish reasons.
Gorgeous!!
Ha! I just got my hubby back -- kinda. He's never all mine, unfortunately. :) I just emailed you about the "gun." Rock on!!
white washing is my favorite. ive yet to find a breadbox as cute as that.
Looks great - and I love the garland around the candles!
Chelsea
Beautiful box! Great deal! And the candles look gorgeous with just a touch of dress up.
Great idea! I picked up one of those trays for a few pennies earlier this year, and I was trying to figure out what to do with it. I had just about decided to decoupage right over the design, but I like this idea. Thanks!
Very cute!!
Looks great. And I completely understand about spending time with your hubby before the season starts up. I am a basketball coaches wife, and I too feel like a single mom during basketball season. :)
Love it and am laughing at "hey, I am a candle and I am celebrating fall". So funny! :)
Love the box now. Actually, I love the whole arrangement. Ditto on the bookcase in your last post. Beautiful!
So great! I love how this grouping looks together!
what perfect thanksgiving decor! i finally decorated a little today.
That is beautiful! Adding the paint really makes the carving look great!
Totally love the sprucing up of wooden boxes and candles! Seriously... I am loving it! :)
They look great!!! Just so you know, for some reason your staring at stairs post is not pulling up.
“Hi. I’m a candle. I’m celebrating fall.”
LOVE IT! Thanks for helping me smile today!
I know what you mean. My husband is a hunter, and he goes hunting almost every weekend during the season. Love the decor!
You are incredible!
Is that a bread box? I love it. Very pretty!
