Taking a Minute

While I try my best to leave too much personal stuff off this blog, I felt the need to explain no Show and Share day this week and thus no giveaway.

A few days ago my school lost a beloved teacher very unexpectedly. The night before last a very popular athlete took his own life.  My staff and students are beside themselves with grief, and it’s been an emotional week.  It isn’t my intention to stay away from blogging, but I just haven’t had the time.

Please accept my apologies.  I’ll be back in a couple of days.  Thank you for understanding!

Wow, it's so hard to even find the right words to say. What a tragedy for your school and your community. I am so sorry for the loss of your coworker and this tragic loss of the student. How very sad. :( I pray for comfort for all of you, especially the students who must be going through so much trying to come to grips with such loss. That's a lot for young people to deal with. I'm so sorry.

I am very sorry about the teacher and the student. You are kind to take time to explain why you are busy. I wanted you to know that my mom took her life 10 years ago. It is a very difficult kind of death to grieve. That student's family and friends are going to have such a hard time. Fortunately, more and more support for suicide is available. Let me know if you need any info to help them.

No apology needed at all. I have followed your blog for a long time now. Six weeks ago my little three year old boy was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. My world has been flipped upside down. This is only the second time I have checked any blogs out since that time...we have had 5 chemos and 4 surgeries. I think the Lord led me here today to pray for you. Sending up many prayers.

So sorry about the grief you are all experiencing right now! I volunteer for a great non-profit organization in my area called Griefworks. I'm so sorry to hear about these losses--just one of these would be hard to bear, but to deal with both of them at once is grievous. May you be sustained with grace and peace as you work to minister to your colleagues and students even as your own heart is broken. Bless you.

And of course we'll all be so glad to see you when you can return to blogging--whenever that is. You can be sure that your readers will wait for you, however long you need!

So strange when our blog worlds and our real worlds collide - I think you teach in my sister's district. She is grieving these losses as well - she had the boy that took his life in her spanish class last year and spend most of the past few days counseling her students. So sorry for your whole community - I will pray for you as well.

So sorry to hear of your community and your loss. I've worked in the same high school for twenty years and know the loss, to our school community, of both staff and students. We have created a peace garden and memorial wall that have really helped us through it all. Sending prayers your way.

I'm so sorry for your loss. The school where I retired (and still do some work for) had the same thing to happen last fall. A popular teacher died suddenly. She was a dear friend of mine and is greatly missed. I hope all of you find peace with your losses. May God bless you all.
