Dining Room Shopping List

This is what I consider the “meat and potatoes” of a room transformation.  Oh sure, the board and batten tutorial was fine, but this is the fun part.  If you’re anything like me, this is the stuff I always want to know.

Again, the #1 question?  The chairs.  You’re going to hear this word a lot.  Ikea.  They were $59.99 (I think that included the slipcover).

IMG_2126

The window treatments were also from Ikea.  They were $29.00 for a PAIR. You just don’t find window treatments that cheap.  They match the walls perfectly.

Another popular comment is on the “mirror” as many people thought it was.  In fact, it’s a candle platter I got at Ikea. It was on clearance for $14.99, and I wish I would have bought 10 of them.

Umm…the painting.  I did it. I bought a canvas (with a 40% off coupon) for $15.00. I simply used acrylic craft paint that I had on hand. Will it stay? Who knows. It was an extremely inexpensive way to add some color to the room, and I’m happy with it—for now.

IMG_2100

Oh yeah.  The sticks were an Ikea purchase, too.  I bought them a long time ago, but it’s only fair that I mention it.  I actually think they still have ‘em. $15.00

IMG_2138

I found these tall sticks (?) for $1.99 at Michaels on clearance.  The peacock feathers added a nice splash of color to a neutral room.  Love peacock feathers!

And finally, the lamp. It was a splurge for me at $39.99 (not $40) at TJMaxx.  I loved it because I didn’t have to do anything to it (woo hoo!), and it brought some curves to the otherwise linear room.

My friend Beth asked a question that I thought I should share.  I painted the birdhouse with craft paint. I use FolkArt Seamist, Raw Sienna, and White. It’s also the same colors I used for the painting on the wall. I just love them.

You have done a gorgeous job! And you are making me wish the Ikea was closer... I finally found my dream table at Ikea but it is so far away someone else went and picked it up and I picked it up at their house.. they were out of the chairs I wanted then so I will be going back.. now I will be going back for a few other things as well... Awesome room and a great blog!

Ok, I am going to admit I have never been to Ikea! We have one but it's a good 50 minutes away. I am really impressed with the drapes! I just may have to make that trip out there. Beautiful job. Love it.

I have to say the same thing as the last comment. I have never been, for the same reason, 50 miles. I think I might now though after seeing those drapes. The room is just beautiful. You must be so happy how it turned out.

Gorgeous! I LOVE the lamp. I soooo wish that our area had an IKEA, other bloggers who blog about IKEA make me jealous! :) The nearest one to us is in Chicago...5 hours away.

Great job!!

Looking totally gorgeous!
I love Ikea, its just a shame there isn't one in a reasonable driving distance that wouldn't require a full day out! :)

Of course you know I love the slipcovers. And I've seen that lamp at TJ Maxx. It's gorgeous! I also love the way the drapes match the wall color. The whole room looks amazing! Our closest Ikea is in Charlotte NC. An hour and a half away. I've never been before. I guess I need to go!

I love your room! And, I love all the Ikea! I have absolutely no problem driving over an hour to go to the nearest Ikea. I would go much more than I do if my husband would let me, I just tend to buy more than I plan on. Great job!

FAH-BU-LOUS, dahlin'! This is absoutely gorgeous! I hope the painting you did stays a long time because I think it's my favorite thing! (Well, I also love that the curtains were so cheap, match the walls EXACTLY, and puddle so perfectly!) Enjoy your incredible space!

Looks amazing!! What is the name of your wall color? It does match the curtains perfect! I have a black dining set and recently purchased an online consultation from a designer which was a big waste of money! I wish I had seen this first...

Ikea is 20 min away and I'm there often. I bought white curtains for my bedroom, 14.99 a pair! Perfect!

Love the room, love the blog!

Thanks for sharing your Dining Room! It is gorgeous! How tall is your Board and Batten? I think you provided all the other measurements. I am in the process of doing the same project and can't decide how high I should go. Thanks!

I love it all. Really a lot. It is so right up my ally and all of the bargain deals - fantastic! You don't have to spend a fortune to have a beautiful space.

I'm loving everything!! I need white curtains! I was thinking sheets like so many people use! But I need to check out ikea first... We have two ikea's around us and its funny I haven't been to either since we moved here! I get in trouble when I go in there but if I know what I am going for..... =)

Luv it. The curtains add the drama effect against the white. What is the upper wall color? I hope I didn't miss that, I checked 2x. At any rate, I think the color is just the right amount of mustard, green and gray - neutral but with POW! Thumbs up.

What a gorgeous space! This turned out fantastic and it is even better knowing it was done on a budget!
Love it! Great job. I am shocked to read how many people don't have a nearby ikea. Mine is 2 mins from work, so 5 mins from home. Guess I shouldn't take that for granted and go more often!

Lovely room, Chris. I love your color choices and it has so "atmosphere". So pretty.
My nearest Ikea is Toronto or Pittsburg,Pa,both quite a distance. Don't they have a catalog, though?

Enjoy your festive meals in that gorgeous room.

I LOVE your dining room makeover. Seriously love it. I cannot wait till we get an IKEA here... well, it'll still be an hour away from me, but better than nothin!

I'm very envious of your dinning room. I never thought that curtains the same color as the wall would look so good... these look amazing, but maybe its because of the white paneling that really makes it work! I've been on the hunt for curtains in the dinning room for months now... I've brought back multiple sets, and pray that I'll eventually find something that will work! I'll admit though I haven't made a stop at ikea yet... so I think that's next on my list... the last will be to just buy fabric and make them myself!

I know i've already commented... but did you see my birdcage?

So... I need to see what you put your large sticks in to hold them. Is it a big pot or something, what is the shape and size? I need to get one for my sticks and am having a hard time. love the room I would love to eat in there.

I love the curtains and their flow from the walls to the window. Having them the exact same color creates such a soothing transition. Fabulous room!

LOVE the makeover! I'm wondering if you sand the base walls down for a project like this? It seems like you would want them smooth (without the standard wall texture) but maybe not. I'd like to try the project in our bedroom so any advice would be great!

Love the room! You have great style. I have those same Ikea sticks but I am a loser and mine are still together in the bundle leaning in a corner. I couldn't tell from your pictures what you put yours in. Any help would be appreciated!
