Convenience for an 8-Year Old

I’m not gonna lie. I saw this idea from Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick, and I sat my computer down, picked up my keys, and drove to the store to copy it. That simple.

Long story short, I was looking for a way to make my cereal a little more accessible for my little one. To give you an example of her despair, I took this picture standing right next to her, so I could show you what it looks like from her point of view.

I ran to Wal-Mart and purchased the larger two. The smallest one was from Target. I went there because Sarah told me to.  I’m pretty sure she was speaking just to me, anyway.

Once again, my Silhouette machine saved the day! I had it cut some fancy frames on black vinyl, and I used some chalkboard pens from Hobby Lobby to write on it. This vinyl isn’t chalkboard vinyl. Does it have to be? It worked perfectly, and it wipes off with a damp cloth.

I just realized I didn’t really get the metal looking scoops in there. I purchased a set of three for a couple dollars at Wal-Mart as well. They work perfectly for scooping out the chocolaty-goodness cereal and leaving the healthy, better-for-you cereal in its dust.

What a great idea indeed, Thrifty Decor Chick!

Beep beep beep. Beep. Beep. Beep beep beep beep.  This just in…

button_thumb[12] I stepped away from SAS Day for a couple of weeks. Please know that it was unintentional. I have not abandoned it, and it’ll be back this Friday.  I have some SPECTACULAR giveaways planned for them, and I can’t wait to see what everyone’s been working on!  It will be especially appreciated now that I’m back to work. Grr.  I hope to see you then!

You are perfect.

Isn't that such a great idea. I saw it when Sarah posted it and I wish I had the counter space for it. Next house!!

I need to do this too. I think it'd be a lot easier for my kids to get their own cereal. Yours look so cute!

Ummm...LOVE those labels that you did with the Silhouette. (Did I spell that right?) Why didn't I think of that?? Stinking adorable. Thanks for the love lady!!!

LOVE those! They look fab!

And thanks for the great feedback on my blog! That's how I really lean also. I just needed lots of people to remind me of that. And you've helped. :) My husband is also a teacher (and I'm half way a teacher, lol) and he believes the same things as you do. I do as well, it's just the mommy in me that has such a hard time.

Okay, I didn't mean to leave all of that on here. Sorry!

Those jars are to die for! :)

So cute!!! We take our cereal out of the boxes & keep the bags in a plastic tub on top of the fridge. My boys are tal enough to reach it so it works for us.

What a neat idea. Thosare much prettier on the counter than those ugly cereal boxes.
I just saw your dresserand it is incredible! Great work it looks wonderful!

Cute idea. Just don't fill them with Lucky Charms, cause our kids always eat all the charms and leave all the lucky in there and then no one wants them. Found we have to keep those up high so they have to get a chair to reach them.

Love it! May have to copy both you and Sarah at TDC!

I loooove those jars! I got a massive one for my laundry detergent! They're so adorable...now all I need to do is get an amazing Silhouette or Cricut machine and I can make a cute label for it! If we ate cereal I'd be all over having these for that too!

I love these jars! I actually thought about this project the other day when I was in Pier 1. They have the jars with the chalkboard square already on it. I don't know what the price difference is between the stores, but I did think of the cereal posts.

Great idea, my kids would love this...I'm not rushing to the store quite yet, it is only 5:30 am, but this would make our mornings run a bit smoother! Janell

Sarah is your soul sister, isn't she? She inspires people, you inspire people. Peas in a pod, you two.

I love that you looked at the cereal cupboard from your daughter's perspective. And then you set out to change things--and did it beautifully. Wonderful!

Glad you're bringing back Show and Share Day! Hope school is going well for you.

How great is that! If I had more counter space, I'd definitely do something similar! (Even though my 11 year old can reach the cereal almost better than I can!) Thanks for sharing!

Those look great...my kiddies are much older, but love the way it looks on your counter.

That is a good idea! My daughter only eats one kind of cereal so that would be an easy, cheap project for me. I keep Cheerios in a reused Puffs container to carry around for my baby girl.

I have 7 or 8 jars like these on our counter, full of flours, oatmeal, and sugars. So handy and easy to see when a refill is needed. The vinyl would be the perfect thing, though.

I am a new follower and LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea!! Just wondering if by chance you know the sizes of your jars?

Must get me a silhouette machine, and the jars are on my WM list for sure. Also, I'm glad to hear you're bringing your party back:)

If I left that out on the counter Graham would have that whole jar of Cocoa Puffs gone in one sitting. The kid is like a bottomless pit! Can't wait for SAS and you know why..!!!!

Aren't glass jars wonderful! Great idea, especially for sweet Olivia. The Silhouette tags look wonderful too. Is getting morning cereal mush easier to get at now Olivia?
