Ok. The Craft Room

I spent forEVer looking for a picture of my den “before”, but I could only find a couple of isolated shots. It all started with this desk.   I loved it, but it became useless once we purchased our laptop.

Once we sold it, I knew exactly what I wanted. A craftroom. Scratch that—I wanted an obnoxiously girly space just for me that no one could ruin with toys or camouflage gear.

IMG_0418

It started with a table and a hutch. I refinished the hutch from my grandparents, and I painted the table to match. I was so happy to have a large workspace for all my hotglue, glitter, paint, and paper projects.

Well, after a few purchases, some creative resources, and some major elbow grease, I present you with---------the girl room.

feminine craft room

I should have warned you about all the pictures. It’s the one room in my house that I didn’t worry about “showroom quality”. I wanted it to be pretty for me, but my main concern was function. You may notice that I’m still struggling with that just a bit.

craft room pegboard

Don’t believe me? Here’s a snapshot of all the projects I have yet to work on in here. The bench is priority #1. I’ve been looking. We just haven’t found each other yet.

I’m gonna show you the hutch side of the room. However, no making fun of me just yet. I’m still getting that area organized, but I couldn’t be happier with the amount of storage I now have.

If you have some catching up to do, you can read the other posts I’ve done on this leading up to the grand finale. The pegboard, dresser, hutch, lamp, and chair have all had their own moments.

Oh geesh. Just saw that your "comments" was changed to "witty replies" I feel pressured to be witty. I've got nothing. But an oh-my-lush-ess-ness! Love the room and the pops of pink are fabulous. The girl cave is perfect!

wow! I'm impressed. I can't pull together a room like you did at all, it's one quality that I covet!

I would love a girl room in my house o boys! I green with envy! lol
My only suggestion is to try and find a piece of glass for your table top...I bought an oops from a local glass shop ($20) not an exact fit, but my table top still looks brand new and it makes clean up super EASY!

Sweetheart - I don't know how to make a whitty reply but I can make a witty one. This room totally looks like you - a bit of natural, a bit of girlie...and lots of great space to make more amazing things. Totally loving the rug!!!

Ok, that wasn't witty or whitty. But I love the room! Could you do hourglass curtains on the french doors to give it a bit of privacy that way?

Did I seriously spell it wrong? That's it. Back to "comments" we go.

I'm not even sure what to say! You said you're still working to get that area organized??? I've lived in my home for over two years and just got to clearing out the craft room floor! AND I might add that I have wall to wall stuff holding my craft supplies! I look like a hoarder! Your room is beautiful! It looks so calming and relaxing!

What a beautiful craft room -- love the rug (and trying not to feel too envious)!

Oh how wonderful to have a room all to yourself to just use for crafts and whatever else you want to do. I know that you will certainly enjoy this "girly" room very much! Have fun!!!

What a glorious space! I love your room, all of the touches of pink in there are perfect. You are sooo lucky!

I love the room. What do you mean it is not 'showroom' quality? I think it is beautiful. I wish I had my own little space to call my own.
(and 'ditto' to everyone's comments about the hits of pink. love.)

So nice to have a room of your own- and with so much storage! I love the dresser you redid and the cute side table by the chair. Have you locked yourself inside and told the others you're never coming out??!!

I was wating to start on my craft/girly room utnil the boys went on their camping trip BUT now I think I'm gonna bust my ___ to get it done so I can craft while the boys are gone. That sounds so much better right?! LOL Thanks for sharing as always. You're pretty much the most AWESOME blogger I know, er I mean read? Well, you know what I mean ;)

Wow, very pretty! Love the wall color, the flowing white drapes and the touches of pink. Can a girl really go wrong in this room? I think not:)

I do have a few suggestions...I am not liking the hutch-scale is a bit off (small) with the rest of the room which I love. Remove the hutch and then you can bring the item to the left of the desk (not sure what it is) over to that spot and then you won't see it when you come in. In that open space to the left of the desk, I'd put that second chair (if I remember, you purchased two chairs and redid one of them so far?). You can flank it at an angle against the wall or you reverse the sticks and put them in the other corner and the second chair in the corner with the sticks to balance the room out. Oh, and one of the commenters mentioned something about a piece of glass over the table. I would definitely get that. The glass places can come and measure to fit if needed but I think you'd be fine taking your own measurements. You'll get to pick the little pads that go between the glass and the desk top. I ruined a pretty desk I had by not getting the glass for it; now I have to refinish it.

Great job.

Your room is adorable! How about putting some privacy film on your doors..you just cut it, wet the glass and squeegee it on....walla, privacy! Love all the storage options. I would love to have a whole room for all must stuff...right now I just have a closet for all my stuff. :-( (but it's better than just digging through boxes! lol
Have a great day!

Lovely room, I'm jealous! How about some rice paper or vellum on the glass of your doors? I have "sidelights" on my front door and wanted some privacy. You can see us sitting at the kitchen table if you look in. I can change it anytime I want and it wasn't expensive.

Melanie said...

Beautiful! That's a room I would love to escape to every evening to just sit in and enjoy the quiet and the clean girly-ness. Can I ask you where you found the big art piece (looks like cherry blossoms tree)?

Lisa Cash said...

Wow! That was a lot of work - looks awesome! I wish my mom-cave looked this posh. :-)

Unknown said...

Looks lovely! I like all the pink. I think I need more pink in my craftroom. Besides the pink iron and the pink ironing board, I mean. And the pink broom bristles, ahaha.

I'll be honest, though, I gigglesnorted over the idea of a room that can't be messed up with toys or camo gear. I am not a believer. I used to be, but there is a little plastic donut under my craft table, and some camo polarfleece splayed on the table (My own fault. I had a heart attack when he wanted to pay over $20 for a too-small plain old camo polarfleece beanie. "I could make you AND all your friends hat like that for HALF that price!" I exclaimed. Me and my big fat mouth.)
and the room has only been done for like a month or two... this is surely just the beginning of the end.

That looks great! Maybe someday I can have a craft room :o).

Girly but sophisticated. The wall color and the rug make the room for me but then add in the touches of soft blue and it is ultra glam.
You will continue to tweak it but it is looking spectacular.

Okay, I've found my tongue again. I've loved every element of this room as you've shown them, but all together they are just fantastic. What a wonderful place to work/craft/play/dream--or just to BE. Congratulations on creating such a cool space!

I'll end the same way I started. Wow.

Love your new look!! What a great look! Our daughter moved out 4 years ago and I was also going to make her room into my get away room (girl cave), but I am sad to say I never got it started. I opened my own business a few months later and well, the rest is history. My get away room is not my catch all (junk room). But now you have inspired me to just do it!!

Looking good! looking very good. Girly, elegant, sophisticated and practical. You are my kind of lady!
About the privacy issue. Those are glass doors aren't day? What about sticking some of the window vinyl on them. I have used it on the window and door facing outside in my guest room. It makes it much harder to look through but still let's in light. And they have it in nice patterns these days that from a distance look like carved glass (is that the english term). Anyway just a thought...

What a fab space! Isn't it funny when we look at our own homes we think, 'that needs to go, I need to sort that, I need to buy that' and yet when anyone else does, they only see a wonderful room.

Hi- I love your place! I didn't have time to read all the replies, but I wanted to give you the suggestion of frosting your glass doors. There is a spray kind as well as stuff in a bottle. My office has clear glass doors and I love them, but I always figure I can frost them if I want more privacy. Another thing that is available is a covering that comes in rolls like wallpaper, and the possibilities are endless. You also could use material and dip it in starch and cover them, too. Good luck!
