Can you tell that I took the second picture an hour later? Ooh, it's a game! What's different?
I apparently did another load of laundry (because I CAN now) and washed another beach towel. It also looks like the Nemesis was getting into the plastic bags with all the hardware in it. I moved it way out of his reach by placing it 17 inches away from its original spot. Well, I didn't say it would be a fun game.
I'm off to rest after all my hard work. I'll be back at it tomorrow. Who knows? Maybe I'll get the doors wiped down.
P.S. Some of you have asked about jury duty. I sat there for 3 hours and 53 minutes in high-heeled, pointy toed shoes and never got called. People had on shorts, baseball hats, jeans....I thought you were supposed to look nice. You could quite possibly be sitting in a judicial courtroom for pete's sake (Pete's sake?). Either way, I didn't have to go for the rest of the week, so it's done. over. finito. dismissed. I crack myself up.

Okay sweetie, if you go back to the post where you asked our opinions about painting your cabinets, I was the one and only one that tried to give you a warning. But, I'm sure you'll love it when it's D*O*N*E.
Happy painting to you!
So far it looks great. My bathroom looks like yours only I have black paint in my vanity and I still need to finish painting the walls and some trim and and and...... It's a never ending process I swear. We have been remodeling for the past 13 yrs I kid you not 13!
Can't wait to see your finished project. Good luck!
Uh oh. I forgot about those "I-told-you-so's" like Joy. I guess I DID get some warnings, eh?
I've got a similar nightmare at my house. Doing kitchen {{eek!}} 17 doors and 9 drawers. Last homeowners paint job wasn't quite good enough, so there are alot of chips/scratches that I need to get rid of before I apply the primer and black paint! Sadly, after a good hour or so sanding ONE door, I still had nicks to work out. So I tried paint stripper. Took me just as long, and was a mess! I've now put it on hold and am considering ordering paint grade cabinet doors and drawers. It stinks!
Here is the start of my story, if you're interested:

Good luck to you!
Rootin for ya! Go Chris...go Chris...it's your birthday...the pay off will be worth it. cherry
My dh painted the kitchen cupboards in our FIRST house...I did it in our SECOND house...now in our THIRD house, we keep looking at each other like, "You gonna do it?" hahaha It is a PITA!
I did do our small half bath here in house #3, but I'm really not happy with the color now, so I might have to do it again, oh joy!
Oh, Jury Duty, I did that in the late 80's when I was very young, I thought I was so important. We found the guy guilty, yep, he was guilty! I really hope I don't get called now, I don't have the time, I have cupboards to paint you know :)
Bella
I am SURE that I complained enough about painting cabinets and doors for the both of us. So. Trust me. It sucks and I feel for you. :o) I do want to paint the vanities in my master bath but I just don't WANNA DO IT.
I was called for jury duty 4 times by the times I was 20. I was never picked for a jury though. I'd just have to go for a solid week and sit around a depressing room reading old magazines.
I love those towels, I wanted patterned towels. Painting cupboards is a pain , but it is worth it in the end.
Well, I'm anxious to see how they turn out as I'm in the "thinking process" of doing mine:) I know you'll do a good job though. You know how they say, "you're the man?" Well, "you're the WoMan!"
The only experience I have had with jury duty was, sitting 20 feet from a woman who stabbed her lover to death in "the heat of passion." I was SO relieved when they told me they did not want me on the jury! It was creepy listening to the details.
I am looking so forward to seeing your bathroom vanity redo. :o)
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
The trick is to do the painting of the vanity when you are sick. Yes, really..I painted my vanity when I had tonsilitis. It was calming and I even did a bit of stenciling too!LOL Well, anyway, your're not good for much more when you feel that bad! Carry on.
ginny
Yep...I see the first coat being finished by November, second toward the end of december...and whooo hoooo a whole painted cabinet by March!! (wink....ducking...running)
I just found your blog, and LOVE it! You have fantastic ideas. I love the pear on the sconce - where did you get that pear??? Thanks!
painting cabinets is NOT fun but so worth it :) hang in there, girly ~ I had to go through jury selection this past Monday but was excused :) yay!!!
Well, thanks for warning us...I guess I will just love my white vanity. I do feel your pain though because I just bought this fabulous china hutch that I wanted to paint black. My hubby said - that's an antique, you must strip it and refinish it. Two hours after barely stripping a foot worth, I called him and respectfully told him...I don't think so.:)
Isn't it a pain, though? It always amazes me when people talk about how they painted this or that. Painting is my least favorite thing. I read a woman's blog the other day where she talked about how she'd painted her kitchen 4 times! 4 times! But, I guess you do what you gotta' do. Good luck!
The painting isn't the fun part, but it is always so worth it when it is done. Hang in there there, we want to see the after photo!
Okay, I've been lurking for a while now and have to ask if you'll ever leave teaching, start a decorating business, and do my house first!? :)
I think about painting our bathroom cabinets everytime I'm in there... you are convincing me to wait a while to start!
Yeah that is why I ask everyone's opinions of what I should do to get them all excited and THEN I do....nothing. Eh - seems like too much work! I'm sure you will be so happy with it when it's done though!
As for the jury duty...I'm proud of you for wearing your high heeled pointy toe shoes. Smart girl - who knows what you would've caught wearing flip flops or shorts there!
Good for you that you went to jury duty...and good for you that you dressed up! It's really an honor to be able to do that! I think there should be SOME sort of dress code for it...maybe at least business casual.
And the vanity looks lovely at this stage and it will be better when it's ALL done and back together
I can't wait to see the painted black cabinets. Just think what the end result will be. It will continue to motivate you!
So glad you didin't have to do Jury duty. It is such a major pain in the you know what!
Jody
Well at least you got started. Now you might as well finish! Your further along than I am!
Good luck,
diane
Girl, You crack me up. I wish I could hang out with you and we would so totally laugh all of the time.
At least you got to wear the pointy toed shoes for something. Mine seem to collect dust.
~Connie
Well, I will be very curious to know how long this takes you and how tortured you are by it. I want really bad to paint the cabinets in our master bath black. But I am so afraid they will look terrible and that it will take me weeks and weeks to get it done. So I will be back every day to check on your progress. Good luck!
Shannon
Oh, this doesn't give me much hope. This is why I feel I will need to practice on my laundry room cabinets before I tackle the kitchen. Oh, dear. Let us know!!
Hey there! I wanted to tell you three things...First of all, I just found your blog last week and LOVE it! I am going to add you to my favorites, girl! Secondly, you are absolutely NOT stupid because you pulled out three screwdrivers! I do that all the time, and we have been remodeling this old house for six years! :) Third, although it's true it is a whole lot of work to paint a vanity, it will be so worth it in the end! :)
I can't wait to see it when you've finished! :)
Love your blog...
Our kitchen cabinets have been half painted for about two months. I had no idea it was such a horrible project!!
Good Luck to your hubbie!!!
Those are really cute cabinets. Glazing them is a way easy and simple thing to do that will completly change the look of them. Check out my blog I have two post specifically on glazing and how to.
I have been contemplating painting the outside of my kitchen cabinets. Notice I said contemplating... because I've already done the inside and it was a pain!
