Of course, our basement isn't finished off yet...it'll just be covered in carpet someday anyway...I'll pop the windows open for ventillation...yeah, you can see where this is going. I found these for half off at the dollar store the other day! You know how much that makes 'em? Yeah, I don't either, but I know they were cheap! Some primer and a can of candy green paint oughta take care of that for ya!
I was a little nervous about finding just the right baskets for the drawer size, but Michael's came through for me. They had these for 1/2 off. At $9.99 a piece, I thought that was pretty good.
What's that? They don't match my floor, you say? I know. I went to Lowe's, bought some stain, and was ready to go. Then, my friend told me just to water down some paint and go over it until I have the look I want. Uhh..yeah. I totally knew that. Thanks, Layla!

Holy crap! If you've ever been unhappy with your basket color, try this. It seriously looks like that was the stain on there! I did a little happy dance over that one! Well, this is just a sneak peak. I was all ready to show off the dresser tonight, but my husband had other plans. One more step, and I'll/he'll be ready!

Isn't spray paint grand?
That is so sad about the man who froze in his own home. I can't imagine how uncomfortable that would be.

I am waiting for painting season here too...I have several things to work on and I am too sloppy to attempt it in the basement or garage! Love the stained basket!
I love the green baskets!
can't wait to see the big reveal!! Do you not just love the apple green spray paint. I too am wanting to spray paint-the cold is kicking my painting habit as well. I think that the high today was 15. Super warm!!!
I did some crafty copying from you-it's not as fantastic as yours-but I tried.
I'll be back to check-yep, thats a promise!! :)
Love the green! I was actually looking for apple green spray paint the other day and couldn't find any. What brand is yours?
HUH. That totally makes me think of raiding the thrift store for baskets! I could do a rainbow of baskets! (just kidding)
I love baskets - watered down paint, huh? What a great tip.
Thanks for the basket tip! I'm always picking up a few baskets here and there, but then they never seem to quite match. Why didn't I think of watered down paint? Love your blog. I picked up hand sanitizer for teacher gifts today!
Sorry that was my comment above. I was posting on another account! Anyway,
I have been reading your blog for awhile now, and you are so awesome! I think I may have commented awhile back but just wanted to let you know your blog is very inspiring! I just started a house blog filled with all of my projects, and would LOVE to link to you!
LOVE it! Can't wait to see the finished product. I have got to try that watered down paint trick on my baskets.
WOW! This is awesome, I never thought about spray painting or "faux-staining" my baskets! Darn...now I have a new project! hehe
Can't believe how you are making us wait. :)
You crazy basket painting people..good thing you don't teach math Chris...$1.00 for TWO baskets? Crazy. (you don't think all 3 kids would mind going out in 15 degree weather for a Dollar Tree run, would you?)
Notice anything fancy about my comment? LLLLLLlllllll LAAAAAA!!!! Being married to a computer hottie has its perks you know!
I am a new reader and love your blog! I had to comment because I have the same exact basket you painted and JUST TODAY I put it in my pile of stuff to spray paint!
I love baskets. My hubby calls me the basket case. LOL! ;)
I never think to spray paint things. Think of all the missed opportunities!
Oh my gosh! How is it possible that I never thought to paint (spray or otherwise) baskets?????
My hubby will be sending you a letter of complaint.

I'm waiting -- tapping my toes and drumming my fingers. Waiting, waiting... LOL
The magical final step is to spray them with some matte-finish clear polyeurathane....that's when they really come to life!

Hi! I am new to your blog (actually I've been lurking for awhile now but haven't commented) and absolutely LOOOOOVE your style. I love every.single.thing in your house! Beautiful. Can you explain the process of the basket painting? I have some baskets that I'd like to get all the same color. I bought some spray paint tonight and went to town, but am not completely happy with the color it turned out. Keep up the great work! =)
