It's Beginning to Look a lot Like...Winter?

As I've said before, I have D.A.D.D. That's Decorating ADD for those of you not in the know about my made up diseases. I was all excited about taking down my Christmas decor and getting things cleaned up, but the thought of having the same decor until next Halloween frightened me.

I've been looking all over for a winter print for my mantle, but I'm having no luck. However, I thought I'd add some touches of winter around the house. These urns are one of my favorite things to decorate. The changes are endless.

The benefits of being surrounded by pinetrees, is of course, free pine needles and pinecones. Add a little fake snow and a bird's nest for good measure--oh, and I think I stuck some seashells in there. Recipe complete!

I've been eyeing the birch candles at Pottery Barn for months, but there was no way I was going to spend that kind of money. Good ol' Target pulled through with a half off sale!
Not too long ago, this lantern was dressed up for Christmas...
And what used to be a summery display of rocks......is now warmified with some pinecones and a birch candle.

My biggest deal, however, is these trees. I got the big one for $15.00 a couple of months ago. She was regularly $30.00, but she was beat up. Bark falling off, paint chipped, and tears streaming down her face. I held out for the other one until after Christmas, and I got her for $7.50 (normally $20.00!).

My hot gluegun and I went to work on them, and they are nearly as good as new. Just don't look too closely!

There you go...my winter decor. We face the perils of snow and winter for too long here not to acknowledge it as a season!
Next up? My winter wreath! I'll be back!

I love how you warmified it, lol. You and your made up words.

Another good idea that I saw in a Pottery Barn Magazine {my favorite} is to take an actual white birch log, hollow out the top just a smidge, then place a tea light at the top. You can cut them in a few different sizes for a nice grouping. I LOVE that idea, and want to do it one of these days.

Love all the stuff! And I think those trees look great! I still can't tell that anything is not perfectly perfect, even after you said something!

It looks beautiful. I need to get my living room straightened and clean and add my winter snowmen tonight so I can get back to regular work tomorrow.

OMG! I love all of that, but those trees...I probably would have paid the $20 just to make sure that I have them. I got some really great deals post-Christmas. I'll have them posted in the next few days. I'm so excited!!

I'm doing the same thing here, though I still have my Christmas decorations up though every time I wander through my rooms, I pull a couple of things. My pile is growing and within a day or two I hope to have exercised Christmas!

Your urns are gorgeous! I have 2 large ginger jars that are similar, but I'm already putting shells in mine since it's 78 deg. in GA. Thanks for sharing you warmified pictures :) I sure do miss the snow.

Great modified winter decor. I leave a few things up until Valentine's Day--snowflakes in my window and a few red berries here and there. I love your filled apothecary jars--thanks for the inspiration!

Great ideas. If only I did not live in Texas where snow and wintery weather don't exsist. It was 77 and 88 the two days before today. Today was a little chillier but still bright and sun shiny. We are on our way to spring.

hahahaha I have said that for years, because I repaint the rooms in my house about every year... I get bored with things and paint is cheap enough... voila D.A.D.D.

Great post! I've been wondering what to put up and out when I take down my Xmas decor (yes, it's still up!) but have no clue. I'm thinking of NOTHING. Can you believe it? I LOOOOVE the winter look to all your jars. It must look right at home up there in MI. Down here, we've been wearing shorts for weeks, so it may look a little funny. lol I think today is another shorts day, by the way. :::sigh:::

Your winter re-do's are great. I'm in the middle of that now. Christmas has been taken down and left things looking bare so I'm scrounging the house looking for inspiration. I have a new glass urn with a top, like you have so you've given me some ideas.

Happy New Year from Houston!

Everything looks fab. I was just telling DH how sad the house looks when we un-decorate it, and that I wished we had more "wintery" decorations....

Thanks for the inspiration!

I have to say I love your blog. I have a chuckle almost every day reading it and your decorating skills are great. I have gotten a lot of inspiration from you.

Where did you find the apothecary jars you used? I have found some but they are either too expensive or the glass is too thin and would probably break the first time I sneezed on them. Not that I have a habit of sneezing over everything I might add.

SAme decor until Halloween - WHAT?!?! I see you now have some V-day stuff and then there's St. Pat's, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July (yes, I am one of "those" who decorates for most major holidays!!) I am loving your blog and so glad to have "found it again" (saw the advent calendar BUT couldn't remember where until I saw it on another blog!).
