If you’re like me, you like to have a bunch of greeting cards on hand at home. Not because you’re always prepared. Mostly because you’re always late for some function, and you need a card—STAT.
I bought this little doo-dad at Target a couple of years ago, and it has housed my greeting card stash. I’ll pick up a pack here and there from time to time to keep it up to date.
Wanna know a secret I just discovered? Dollar Store has the best cards for absolutely nothing! I lied. I had to pay for them. They were 2/$1.00. It took me just a few minutes to figure out that that was .50 cents for each card!
I bought 22 cards for a grand total of $11.00! I know! At some card shops, you could get maybe 2-3 cards for that price. Since my Target doo-dad was looking a little ragged, I picked up this new and improved doo-dad for $1.00 (again…dollar store).
You put 22 new cards, plus 20 old cards, plus a new and improved doo-dad together, and this is what you get!
I’m just giddy at the organization of it all. PLUS, it’s colorful. It makes me smile. Edited to add: The dividers are the ones that came in the box above that I purchased from Target. I just cut them down and re-used them!
Of course, I felt like something was missing.
That’s better. Now I’ll never look at that container and wonder, “What in the world could those folded paper thingies be?”

Very cute, love the stuff you come up with! : )
You are so funny!
Oh and creative too!
I have that SAME box and it's looking pretty ragged - guess i'm going to have to hit up our $ store to see if I can find the new one like yours! I love it.
oh, this is a lovely idea!
I know, right? You would be sitting there looking at that box wondering - what the...did I put in that thing? Good idea to label Chris. ;) Just saw my link - that was SO funny. I totally passed over it and then BAM! There it was - Where's Kleenex? How did I miss that? I am sitting here dying laughing and Dan is thinking I'm loopy. Your bloglines never gets updated for me...I need to get that fixed.
That doo-dad is a great idea!
Chris,
I've been following your blog for about a month now and I can't get enough of all you share. You make me laugh...I truly enjoy reading your posts. I love how your ideas can help get our creative juices flowing. I was telling my husband about your advent calendar and he was like we should do that only using all the letters in the alphabet! This would help our almost two year old learn his letters...I thought it was cute that my husband got excited with me. Thank you for sharing!
Sincerely
Cristina

I love, love, love those $ stores.
My favorite on is The Dollar Tree.
I buy my cards there all the time
and they have added a couple of new lines to their card dept.
Thanks for sharing!

oh so cute! I love the dollar store & it does have some great cards! Actually, I am obsessed with cards in general to be honest :)
You did it again!! I have a very similar "doo-dad" and will be copying you for sure!
I love $ store cards! My mom would die if I spent more than $1 for her a card.
Love the container you made.
That is cute!!!! I may make one for my mom she is a card person.. I do not mess with cards..I have tried but I just don't get into cards..
I so do this too. I have 2 cute boxes that came with cards in them from Costco. They are super cute for storage and the cards are adorable. They were like $12.99 for the whole box with all the cute cards.
You are so funny! Love the doo-dad and the organization of it all.
Ha! "Those folded paper thingies", I love it! Great idea especially since I've been so late on sending cards out this year ~ I'm usually on the ball about that. This goes on my list of things to do!
Oh wowie! I just love your site! I saw this box at Dollar Tree but couldn't think of a good use! Now I know! No more greeting cards floating around my craft box! :) Thanks!
great idea!!
My problem is that when I buy a card ahead of time, when it's time to send the card, I can't find it. I need this so I can put them in one place. I never have found the Valentine's Day card I bought and hid from DH.
love love love! when i was reading through this post quickly, i thought it was a giveaway and i was all ready for it.....
okay, i'll try making it on my own......sigh.....
Love the organization. You have inspired me to go out and get the Dollar Store cards for my lack-of-preparation moments too. Thanks for such a great idea!
Carrie
I have one of those of card doo dads myself, but hardly ever use it.
I was in the Dollar Store the other day & thought of you (no, not creepy thoughts). They were putting out their Halloween decorations & had sparkly glitter skulls. Of course, it made me think of your decorations from last year.
Great idea! I do stock up on greeting cards from the dollar store, but just toss them in a drawer to be forgotten. =)
Great idea. I love coming across cards that are soooooooo reasonable. Here in Cleveland we have a Card Store. All cards are $.49. LOVE!
I need to look for that container. Another great idea! Nancy from OHIO
SO cute!! And I love that you labelled it - the perfect finishing touch!

Family Dollar has really cool 3-D cards that have a scrapbooking look. They have lots of embellishments etc. for $1.00 a piece. Love them. I love your container....I will be looking for one of those.
I love it! where did you get those great dividers?
I too have one that I made several years back. Mine might need to be updated too. Yours looks really great!
I always look forward to your posts - they make me smile! And where did you get those cute dividers? Maybe I need to re-read your post.

Oh! Very cute! Love how you used the dividers with the new container.
Are you kidding me? Seriously, you continue to amaze me! I'm in LOVE. And yes, love the cute dividers too...where oh where did you find them? Must copy!
Just brilliant!
I love it! I cannot believe that it has never occured to me to purchase cards at one of the Dollar Stores...I have seen them but never considered how cheap that really it! Thanks for pointing that out to me! I need to pump up my stash!
I just love this! I am an organizational freak sometimes. I truly enjoy having things organized and stremlined in my home. You have a wonderful blog. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful ideas & projects.
Cute idea! Gotta love the dollar store! :)
So cute! I'm all about reusing things!
I have one of those card holders, too. It doesn't quite hold enough cards so your idea is a great one!
Thanks,
JoAnn
Oh My! I need to go to the dollar store and gather some doo-dad's and make my own doo-dad thingy! Very handy!
Woo-hoo! I am I-N-S-P-I-R-E-D !!!!!!
Thanks, sista!

I got that box of cards at Target, too. But since buying that box, I've bought most of my cards at Dollar Tree. Aren't they the best?
And now I know how I'll organize them! Or at least I'll pretend to organize them, and I can feel good about my organization. For a bit.
Great idea! I haven't scanned the cards at the dollar store lately! Cute stuff!

Hi there Chris,
Catching up on your Site is like taking a wonderful stroll through the Park. You never fail to please. Thank you for all the great inspiration over the past year!!!
M.L.
It is so pretty! Might i suggest something to add? I have all of my cards in a book with pockets that also has a page for events in each month. If you added even a sheet with spaces for this for each month, when one crops up and you use a card, you can write it down, and then you know next time. THis is particularly useful if your husband, like mine, tells you about peoples birthday the night before you have to see the person!
what a great idea!!
I love this idea! Cute, organized, inexpensive! Awesome!! Thanks for yet another great idea! Whoa, I just noticed how many exclamation points I used in this comment...I think I really like this idea.
I'm loving this blog! Best ideas ever!! Thanks for sharing your talents with us!
I have the same Target doo-dad so I can totally do this. I've picked up a few cards at garage sales this summer but never thought of the dollar store.
Thanks for the ideas!

L O V E - love it!!
Good idea.
I have the same box, but I am running out of cards. I will hit up the dollar store to fill it up. And maybe pick up a cute basket to change it up! :)
love this idea! I also have a card box that I bought with cards in it and then went to the Dollar Store recently to replenish my stock and they are too big to fit in the box... looks like I'll have to do your trick!
