Greeting Card Caddy

If you’re like me, you like to have a bunch of greeting cards on hand at home. Not because you’re always prepared. Mostly because you’re always late for some function, and you need a card—STAT.

I bought this little doo-dad at Target a couple of years ago, and it has housed my greeting card stash. I’ll pick up a pack here and there from time to time to keep it up to date.

IMG_6653 Wanna know a secret I just discovered? Dollar Store has the best cards for absolutely nothing! I lied. I had to pay for them. They were 2/$1.00. It took me just a few minutes to figure out that that was .50 cents for each card!

IMG_6650

I bought 22 cards for a grand total of $11.00! I know! At some card shops, you could get maybe 2-3 cards for that price. Since my Target doo-dad was looking a little ragged, I picked up this new and improved doo-dad for $1.00 (again…dollar store).

IMG_6654 You put 22 new cards, plus 20 old cards, plus a new and improved doo-dad together, and this is what you get!

IMG_6658

I’m just giddy at the organization of it all. PLUS, it’s colorful. It makes me smile. Edited to add: The dividers are the ones that came in the box above that I purchased from Target. I just cut them down and re-used them!

IMG_6668

Of course, I felt like something was missing.

IMG_6683

That’s better. Now I’ll never look at that container and wonder, “What in the world could those folded paper thingies be?”

I know, right? You would be sitting there looking at that box wondering - what the...did I put in that thing? Good idea to label Chris. ;) Just saw my link - that was SO funny. I totally passed over it and then BAM! There it was - Where's Kleenex? How did I miss that? I am sitting here dying laughing and Dan is thinking I'm loopy. Your bloglines never gets updated for me...I need to get that fixed.

Chris,
I've been following your blog for about a month now and I can't get enough of all you share. You make me laugh...I truly enjoy reading your posts. I love how your ideas can help get our creative juices flowing. I was telling my husband about your advent calendar and he was like we should do that only using all the letters in the alphabet! This would help our almost two year old learn his letters...I thought it was cute that my husband got excited with me. Thank you for sharing!
Sincerely
Cristina

I love $ store cards! My mom would die if I spent more than $1 for her a card.
Love the container you made.

I so do this too. I have 2 cute boxes that came with cards in them from Costco. They are super cute for storage and the cards are adorable. They were like $12.99 for the whole box with all the cute cards.

Ha! "Those folded paper thingies", I love it! Great idea especially since I've been so late on sending cards out this year ~ I'm usually on the ball about that. This goes on my list of things to do!

Oh wowie! I just love your site! I saw this box at Dollar Tree but couldn't think of a good use! Now I know! No more greeting cards floating around my craft box! :) Thanks!

My problem is that when I buy a card ahead of time, when it's time to send the card, I can't find it. I need this so I can put them in one place. I never have found the Valentine's Day card I bought and hid from DH.

I have one of those of card doo dads myself, but hardly ever use it.
I was in the Dollar Store the other day & thought of you (no, not creepy thoughts). They were putting out their Halloween decorations & had sparkly glitter skulls. Of course, it made me think of your decorations from last year.

Great idea! I do stock up on greeting cards from the dollar store, but just toss them in a drawer to be forgotten. =)

Family Dollar has really cool 3-D cards that have a scrapbooking look. They have lots of embellishments etc. for $1.00 a piece. Love them. I love your container....I will be looking for one of those.

I got that box of cards at Target, too. But since buying that box, I've bought most of my cards at Dollar Tree. Aren't they the best?

And now I know how I'll organize them! Or at least I'll pretend to organize them, and I can feel good about my organization. For a bit.

Great idea! I haven't scanned the cards at the dollar store lately! Cute stuff!

It is so pretty! Might i suggest something to add? I have all of my cards in a book with pockets that also has a page for events in each month. If you added even a sheet with spaces for this for each month, when one crops up and you use a card, you can write it down, and then you know next time. THis is particularly useful if your husband, like mine, tells you about peoples birthday the night before you have to see the person!
