First Aid Fancy

When I first started blogging two years ago, I briefly mentioned the kit below.  I had three readers.  Two of them were me and one was my mom.  Seriously.  I looked at my own blog so much that I count as two.  Anywho, with the great weather this weekend, it brought out “the kit” again.  I thought you might want to see how it’s set up.

I bought it for $3.99 at our local scrapbooking store and simply spruced it up with some cardstock and ribbons.

IMG_1088

When the weather starts to break around here, I rummage through to take stock of what I have on hand.  I keep an array of supplies.  What works for me might not work for you, but a topical antihistamine for the swarms of mosquitoes and Neosporin for the gamut of scrapes are a must.

IMG_1079

I keep a little plastic container of stickers for my kids to go through.  When they’re all done, they leave with a kiss and a sticker.  However, it’s not really working on my 10-year old anymore.  I went to give him a sticker the other day and he looked at me like I was handing him kryptonite.  My little girl, on the other hand, thinks it’s the coolest thing in the world.

IMG_1084

Everything I need fits as snug as a bug in a rug, and it’s fantastic having everything on hand when it’s needed. I also keep an extra package of band-aids separate in the kitchen for those “non-surgical” injuries.

IMG_1097

Now listen very carefully.  Just because I made one for “him” does not mean that I love him.  It simply means that I needed a space to house his grooming essentials.  That’s all.  Nothing more.  I’m serious.

IMG_1089

His essentials are a little different from ours, but there’s no guessing where everything is.  Yes, those are chew marks on his brushes.  He stops at nothing.

IMG_1093

There you go.  Any excuse to buy more cute ribbon and keep things organized is fine by me!

IMG_1090

Sorry about the delay, but I’ll announce the winners of the giveaways tomorrow!  Can’t wait to see who wins!

cute idea! I definitely need one of those to take to the ball park with me and my four boys! :)

Cute and very handy. I realized my life was going in a place I had never expected it to when the dog first aid kit became a 15 by 12-inch plastic tub and the people first aid kit consists of band-aids (anything else we scrounge from the dogs' stash).

How fun. Spiffing up an otherwise boring storage item. Very very cute.

cute idea!! I'll have to share this with my scrapbook friends :)
I think you love him :)

So cute! Our dogs name is Maximus too, I call him the Nemesis. I love him but he drives me nuts, he is always eating diapers and wipes, stealing snacks from the girls and is always underfoot! However the girls love him and he is so good with them!

This is perfect! I was just telling the bf tonight (after I rushed upstairs to grab all the necessities to patch up a sliced hand from a handyman mishap) that I needed to get together a proper kit to keep on the main floor!

I may just have to make one of my own! Too Cute.

Great way to keep first aid stuff handy without taking too much room.

Ok, these are seriously adorable! I think I might have to make the little one for my sister's new puppy. Thanks for the idea!

Such a cute idea. I laughed at you being two of the followers of your own blog. That is me right now :)
And our dog (a drooley spaniel called General MacArthur) drives me nuts too... but I do love him as part of the family... although a somewhat annoying part.....
Hoping to see what you did with that dresser/hutch real soon :)

Love those! I love that you made one for "him" even though you don't love "him." Very thoughtful of you. ;)

What a cute way to store some much needed things. I really dont' like stuff just laying around.. but this is a nice way to have things ready at hand for what is needed. Great Idea!

The Maxy box broke my heart. I lost the second of my two 16-year-old kitties last month, and I'm still missing them. My girl cat, Mouchie, loved to be groomed, and when I'd ask her if she wanted me to BRUSH her, she'd trot after me to get the brushes.

My life is in flux, and I'm trying to resist getting another pet for a while, but when I do, I'm making a box. In fact, it's such a great idea, I think I'll be making a box anyway!

P.S. Hope I don't sound too sad -- my guys had long and wonderful lives here on Cape Cod!

I Love your boxes. I've been wanting to try to make some myself but I'm not sure what kind of glue to use. I've been told that mod poge doesn't work & I want it to hold up. What did you use?

Cute idea! I constantly have kids (mine and neighbors) coming in and grabbing a bandaid when they get a scrape while playing outside. I wonder if I made one of these to put in my garage with the bikes and toys, and filled it only with dollar store bandaids, if it would last all summer or be gone in three days? Might be worth a try. :) If they go too quickly, I can always bring it inside for adult supervised bandaid dispensing.

What really cool ideas! I love it!
Everything right there handy so no searching while little ones may be "screaming"! And the dog kit--well, I prepare our hurricane evac kit...and one for the cats...I have one on meds and special food-so that's a gotta go with us...the container its all in can double as a litter box if need be. So far, never needed it-better safe than sorry, tho! Again, love the projects!

Cute idea. I really love the stickers, just like they get at the doctor's office!

that is adorable! it would make a great gift for a high school grad, I think (female).

Oh come on, you love that dog and you love to hate him. Totally cute. I love how you do magazine-worthy-organization. I'm fairly organized, but it's lacking the cute factor. I'm inspired!

That is so cute and I love that everything is in one place. I am all about organizing and this is perfect.

So cute! I love both of them. My first aid kit is in a cooler that came with a breastpump! Never thought of putting stickers in there. Thanks for the tip!

Get out! I've never seen a cute first aid kit before. You are so darn clever. No wonder you didn't stay at just three readers for long.

And yes, they outgrow stickers. As far as I can tell, though, they don't outgrow candy. :)

Cute and necessary! Are these the metal boxes they have at Michael's? I've seen these there and always wanted to get one and do something with it. I think a first aid kit is a great way to go. I know hubby would appreciate it since he is the one that uses most of our band-aids.

Very cute! As a Pediatric nurse practitioner I have some experience in first aid kits in addition to just starting up www.AlwaysHappyLife.com , our sister company is www.Sail22.com. I build First Aid kits for sailing teams and custom ones for families. Maybe we can add this to our Always Happy Life give-a-way later this month? I love, love, LOVE the sticker idea! And my son is only 19 months old, so I am hoping that HE will love the sticker idea for a long time to come (and I refuse to think about the day when he doesn't).

Love that! I am so glad you dug through the depths of your post archives to share that one. Where did you find the cute boxes?? That would work so well in my classroom too. And the sticker idea...perfection!

Adorable!! Those cases are great. Love the sicker idea!

Love this!!! and the thought to give the sticker afterwards, my girls would love that. Thanks for a great idea.

I did this exact thing when my girls (now grown adults) left behind their days using lunch-boxes. We had given them cute ones from the Hello Kitty shop. Ours were decorated sweetly enough that we didn't need to add all the extra cuteness...but I wouldn't have thought of dressing them up as you had...I just adore the red cross version, very clever.

I love this idea. It took me forever just to get my first follower and I checked my blog way to much at first.

I don't know what it is about 10 years old. My son would have reacted the same. We still get some sweet moments but I'm getting a lot more "Mom that's for babies". He's my only one so it's hard to let him get older.

I need to make a kit for my two jack russell/chihuahua mixes.

Thanks for sharing this.

I can't believe I missed 4 days since checking your blog. I have been super busy. Love the first aid containers. I have a rectangular tin with my first aid stuff and a red cross on the top. No ribbons, but I sure like yours. They would make a nice gift for someone. I use three actually, one in the house, one @ my garden table and one in my car emergency stuff. You go on and on about Maximus, but I know you love him. Gads! he has his own grooming tin. Come on already...

I stumbled upon your blog and have to say I LOVE the tin for first aid. I am a teacher and I think that would be perfect for in my classroom to hold band-aids and the gloves and such they issue us to handle "blood" on our students at times. May I ask where you got the tin from? I live in such a small town I am fearful we won't have the store where you got it from? Hopefully you write back!

What a fantastic idea! Our supplies are in a boring rubbermaid container. I must put together a fancy kit (complete with stickers!) for my piXies. I also enjoyed your other great organizational posts (kid cleaning supplies, DVD binders, framed pegboard, etc.) ThanX for sharing your clever ideas.

PS ~ MaXimus tin is too-too sweet!

I love this idea...so going to get one of those lttle tins to make one!!

I started my blog this year (5 months ago) and I related to what you said...that you would look at your blog so much - you counted as two... ;)
