A Girl and Her Dog

It’s no secret that Maximus gets the most attention from our daughter around here. Perhaps more attention than he wants.

Maximus

The worry of getting a big dog while she was little quickly subsided one day when Maximus ate one of my daughter’s toys. She walked right up to him, opened up his mouth, and reached in there with her hand to get it back. At that point, we realized he was probably gonna do just fine in this family.

Here she is (in her prison attire) playing doctor. He tends to be the best patient.

Bull Mastiff

Of course, he also tends to be the best butt of jokes. Broo ha ha. He has no idea.

bullmastiff

She reads to him when they’re bored…

bull mastiff

and she showers him with kisses—even when he’s just not that into it.

bulmastiff

It’s not all her, however. He makes sure to stand guard whenever she eats.

Maximus      Maximus

Don’t judge this picture. The point is Maximus, remember?

IMG_4735

And when she’s had enough, he just waits—hoping that she’ll look his way, and he can thump his tail loud enough to attract her over.

bullmastiff

Of course, if he waits long enough, maybe she’ll take a nap—which means he also gets to nap. With a buddy.

bullmastiff

Or on a buddy, as the case may be.

bull mastiff

He’s been known to get a little jealous if someone takes his place for the night.

our bullmastiff

But she always comes back to him.

Maximus mastiff

While I could do without this big lump of slobber on most days, I have a feeling she couldn’t.

bullmastiff hole

 Looks like he stays.

So cute! I'm still going to need more convincing to get a dog some day when my two boys (now 3 yrs and 9 mos) start begging for one. Right now I'm content with them just having their stuffed dogs. But this post was really cute.

Life would be boring without a Nemesis, anyways. My personal nemesis could be eaten by yours as a snack, but is kept around for the same reason(s)
My personal nemesis helped herself to the cord on the base of my new cordless kettle sometime late last week, much to my consternation. I do take some small consolation in the fact that it was plugged in, so she gave herself a little 'aversion therapy' with that one. Hopefully that will be the last cord she munches on, ohoho.

This was so sweet! What handsome dog and your daughter is a cutie. I love big dogs but we are new to the dog scene. We have a Golden Retreiver and her biggest fault is she sheds...a lot. I did not grow up with a dog. I think I missed out. Your kids are very lucky to have Maximus! Merry Christmas!

That is so sweet, my daughter and our 70 pound lap dog are the same way. It's amazing at the bond children make with their pets. I have a roll of tape laying around also, mine is masking tape though. I use it to label and date all leftovers that I put in the fridge. It keeps you from guessing....

So sweet. When I was little I had a boxer named Bruno who was the same way with me. We played dress up together and he would let me ride on his back, but he was also very protective and slept in my doorway every night. Brings back old memories :)

Love it! Our dog is sad because my daughter is out of town for a few days with my husband. He mopes and has surrounded himself with her toys and a dress of hers that needs to be washed. I am not a dog person but I love him for all that he does for her.

They read together, snuggle on the couch and ever now and then I find Tickle sleeping with her in her little toddler bed. I love that such a big dog is so gentle wtih her.
