That's how I roll...

I have been in my house for 4 1/2 years, and I have finally painted my first room. Thanks to a nanny who spilled coffee twice in the same spot and a big, messy, slobbery dog, we are replacing our carpet in the family room. Keep in mind this is the same spot in which I sleep for 2/3 of the winter because I just can't remove myself from in front of the fireplace. My back thanks me for that. In my opinion, new carpet=new paint on the walls.

While I was saving this confession for another post, I will let it be known that I am in love with Candice Olson. Everything she touches turns to gold, and she can simply do no wrong. Proving myself a worthy fan, I went to her site and scoured all the rooms for a color on the walls. I have beige furniture... a weird, grayish--maybe it's just dirty--beige. Thanks to Candice, I thought a pale gray would go nice on the walls. Something to offset the beige. Also thanks to Candice, I think I know how to choose wall colors.

This is what I thought I was painting on the walls. Very pale, oh-so-subtle and subdoed.

This is what it looks like on the walls.

All it needs is some black leather furniture, a neon sign, and a life-size David Hasselhoff cut out. A perfect gray for an 80's bachelor pad. Beautiful color...bad for this room.

Just to add a little pressure to the scenario, we are having our new carpet installed on Monday. So...not only do I need to pick out some other paint (pronto!), paint the room (again!), and love it (please Lord!), but I also have to live with my house looking like this until then.

As you can see, my son is really having a hard time adjusting to the new furniture arrangement!

So, for all my 5 readers out there (one of them being my mom and the other one being me!), I will keep you posted as to what color I decide upon. I know you're just waiting with bated breath, but you'll just have to come back, bring a friend, and see what happens after the weekend.

Good luck with choosing a paint color! I stink at it. Picking a color is almost as painful as painting, imo. We picked a beige for our living room which ended up looking VERY grey/concrete to me. I hate it but to change it now would mean a HUGE paint job. So... I have a few more months to live with it. I still haven't picked out a new color. Good luck!!!

...and you love Candace, too. sigh... it just gets better and better!

Oh no! I too am a huge fan of Candice, (I feel like you are my decorating soulmate! LOL!) but I agree with you that the grey is not quite right. (Is that being polite enough for you?!) The only room painted in my home of 3 1/2 years is my daughters - and we did that in January weeks before she was born. Paint is such a huge commitment for me. Good luck!

Choosing paint is SO hard! I had several color swatches on my walls before I caved and hired a consultant to come in and tell me what would go with the tone of my carpet, floors and furniture. It was only $150 and SO worth it. She did the whole house.
If you can't hire someone in the short amount of time, I would go with a nice green. A palm green. Or The Nester posted on her blog and color she has used tried and true. It's a buttery tannish.....very nice. Good luck

You have shown why I haven't painted in so long. The experts always say you can make such a change in your home for the least amount of money by painting, but look what a person has to go through. It's like moving, only twice. In the end, it is worth it though.
Candice is so great. Love her show! She takes decorating risks I wouldn't even think of, and turns it into a masterpiece.
