Tag Tutorial

Do you ever feel like you go from having nothing to post about to having so many things, you just can't wait to post them? Yeah, me neither. Just kidding. I posted about the closet redo, and my blog friend Suzanne asked where I got the tags for the bins.

Well, lemme tell ya! It's actually scrapbook paper inside some metal scrapbook rims. Some time ago I made a confession that I'm a scrapbooker who doesn't scrapbook. I love all the stuff, but a person could go mad in one of those stores!

OH yeah...the tutorial. I will preface it by saying that they have actual tools for making these things, but you need two different ones, and they run @ $25.00 each. Uh...wha? I bought a paper punch (1/2 off) for $5.00 at Hobby Lobby. The rings are from Making Memories (I think), and the ones I use are the bigger ones (1 7/8 inch). I really guesstimated on all this, and I got lucky. Select your favorite scrapbook paper (a thicker cardstock type works better, but any will do--look at me talkin' all scrapbook-y), punch the hole, and put it into the metal ring. Press the edges of the ring around the paper (I used a nail file), and you are finished!

So... Metal ring + Paper punched into hole = tag! Notice that I used a simple single hole punch for where the ribbon will go. Don't forget to do this before you put it in the metal ring. I've heard some idiot out there didn't do that once, and she...or he...had to redo the whole thing.

I used to use rub-ons for all my letters, but a light bulb went off (or on?) one day, and now I just run it through my printer. Am I really that slow? Perhaps.
The finished product! I love it! I could really do a whole post devoted to all the things I have tagged in this house. I tag our medicine baskets, the kids' toy bins, and...oh yeah...my husband's ammo. There's a ligitimate reason for that tag, really. I'll tell ya that later.
OOH! One more thing. You could just trace around the metal trim and cut it out manually--saving you the $5.00 expense of the hole punch. But, why would you want to save money when you could save time? ;-)

I am cracking up here reading the Ammo tag all pretty and cute like that. But I guess it makes sense, you do have a baseball bat on your mantle!

Great idea - I'm so copying this!

I actually saw the Wrestling tag on your last post and was wondering how you made those tags. They add so much and take such little time! Thanks for sharing!!

I love this idea. Ok...I don't scrapbook at all so I just want to be sure I'm understanding...you cut the circles out, right? Or can you get them that way?

Thanks!

Super cute and sounds easy! I like to buy Scrapbook supplies too...then I look at them in the closet. Sigh. Maybe, just maybe, I will make some tags.

Thanks for the tutorial - I've been walking around my house thinking about what I need to "TAG!" And now I need baskets! I loved what you said about scrapbooking - it is much easier to shop than it is to actually use the stuff up! LOL!! You always crack me up! But there is NO way my husband would ever agree to sweet little tags on his ammo - are you kidding! ROFL!

Cute tags!! I used these 100 years ago when I scrapbooked. But. You can buy a pack of those tags for like $1.50 at Walmart. I would trace the circle of the tag onto scrap paper and cut it out. Then glue the scrap paper circle into the prexisting tag. Does that make sense? If you want it printed first, run it through your printer before tracing the circle.

I love these!! I am actually doing some tags tonight with the punchers, just without the metal rim. I'm so excited to work on them, especially now!!
