Updated Bedroom

Remember back in 1988 when I showed a sneak peak of what I was doing in my daughter’s room?  Well, here it is 21 years later, and I’m finally ready to show you.  Here’s what her room looked like before.

olivia1

I loved her room.  Loved it.  But she needed a more sturdy bed, and she wanted something that guests could sleep on.  With a new bed comes new walls, I guess.

IMG_8732

Ta-Da!!!  Not bad, eh?  The hardest part was finding a tree that I liked to paint!  There’s a lot of version of trees out there, and I just couldn’t find the right one! IMG_8726

I’m so thankful to Jennifer over at The Magic Brush.  She gave me some tips about paint and told me the key was good brushes.  Boy was she right.  They made a world of difference!  Thank you, Jennifer!

IMG_8728

Luckily, I kept my accent colors the same, so I didn’t have to overhaul too many accessories.  I did, however, buy this little ballerina for $7 at TJMaxx.  I had to paint her, but she sure is pretty.

IMG_8723

Remember when I purchased the fabric swatches from Etsy?  Well, I finally put them to use.  I love the splash of color.

IMG_8708

Of course, one of the highlights for my daughter is the new trundle.  Her brother’s gotten the most use out of it, but I’m sure that’ll change someday.  Until then, they have “sleepovers” and giggle until we yell at them. :)

IMG_8721

The pink (reversible) quilt is by Pottery Barn.  I purchased it off of Ebay about two years ago.  The green one was $20 at Marshall’s.  Perfect!

IMG_6258

I used some leftover wall paint for the top of her table and spray painted her chairs.  Notice the missing spindle in the chair?  Guess who ate that?  Grrr.

IMG_8716

There you have it.  A wonderful compromise between my 7-year old who would have loved purple glittered walls and pink fur pillows and me who would have loved toile and ruffles.

IMG_8730

Oh, one last thing.  I am fully aware of the “flood curtains”.  I was confident that I had bought 95” panels—confident!  I steamed them, hung them, and laughed out loud.  Oops.  Don’t worry.  I’ll fix it, and I’ll show you how.

I absolutely love it!!! Love how it is feminine without the look of pepto in the room. And my fav is the mailbox. I just might have to start looking for one for my little girl.

I LOVE the wall color and the tree. The whole room is what I'd imagine for my little girl...although she doesn't have a room yet so tell me where you found that Geor tree and what paint you use. I'd love to know.

So very pretty. Love the color palate and I am guilty of painting everything but I was inspired by how you painted the simple ballerina. My daughter was married last year and I am looking at her hot pink/orange and green room and thinking it is time for a redo. Thanks for the inspiration.

Absolutely beautiful. I don't know a thing about little girls' rooms, but I would think anyone would be happy with this space. It looks fantastic.

It'll be fun to see what you do with those high waters. I'm guessing it'll be much prettier than the plain panels would have been. :)

This turned out so amazing! I have been in the process of updating my daughters room, and I always love seeing girls room like this, so inspiring. What is the color you used on the wall?

Amanda said...

lovely, i can't wait to see how you fix the curtains. i did the exact same thing to my sons room and they're still hanging there looking all tacky and sad. maybe if you show me then i can give his a fix.

We have a 2 hour delay today. For what I have no idea other than to drive me insane. The whole morning is pretty much thrown out the window. Ugh.

Beautiful!! I can't believe you painted the tree, I was thinking maybe it was one of those vinyl sticky type things! :) Apparently my daughter & yours have similar taste, but I gave in to some of it, she has the purple room, minus the glitter and the furry pillows! But she shows them to me still everytime we go to Ross. :)

Doris said...

I love it! Can you please share the paint color?

LOVE it! I made the mistake of showing my 6 year old daughter the pictures...the look on her face was priceless. She wants the bed and the "lantern" and the tree. Thankfully she did ask me to do it to her new room, if we move. I love the color as well, it looks very similar to my bathroom color, Tide Pools from Behr...BEAUTIFUL!
