Kitchen Update

When my mom told me that I had finally convinced her to paint her kitchen cabinets, I said one thing, “Make sure you take before photos!”.  Here’s what she sent.kitchen

Oh, and this one.  From two years ago.  And my daughter is wearing make up.  Ack!family_08_004[1] Luckily, the before pictures (or lack thereof) aren’t the focus of this show.  It took some convincing, but she painted them—and then some!

She replaced the flooring, painted the walls, added some trim, and had recessed lighting put in.  I just said paint the cabinets, Mom! ;)

I’ve spent countless hours in this kitchen, so the memories of meals with my mom and dad took precedence over the dark cabinets.  However, with all the changes in her bathrooms, it just seemed like the next natural step.  IMG_0453

Of course, I think my mom’s talent lies in the details.

My heart gets all fuzzy when I stand at the sink.  She may not have a window view, but I think this is pretty close.  You done good, Mom!

Adorable. Again I have to say that it is amazing what you can do with paint. It looks like a whole new space.

I am sure there will be many more wonderful memories made in that kitchen. Even more memorable after all that hard work.

I love it!!! I have a remodel coming up this spring, adding on and some major kitchen/dining room changes. Your mom's colors are sooo close to what I have in my head :D

Wow, what a great job! That is a lot of painting! I'm sure she's just thrilled with the outcome.

It is inspiring me to tackle our 90's kitchen cabinets. Same sort of inset pattern, but ours are a lighter oak.

My husband and I are about to move into our first home, and want to paint the cabinets white. What process did she go through to make sure she really coated them well?

Did she sand them? Or just simply paint? And what color did she use?

Great job 'mom'! Would love to hear how she painted them (what she used, how many coats, etc). Done a lot of research lately, but have yet to decide which is the best method.

Hi,

They look so good!! I am with some of the other people...How did she do it? What paint, process, ect. did she do? I am debating between painting or staining our kitchen cabinets right now.

Thanks for sharing! You both have the most amazing talent!!!

Wow! This looks great! Your mom did a wonderful job. How nice for her to have a consultant right in the family!

Isn't it funny how taking "before" photos is just part of what we do now? I never took "before" photos before i had a blog. Now I can't bear to begin a project without snapping a photo first. :)

Staci said...

our mom did a great job! Can you ask her where her paper towel rack came from, I love it.

Amanda said...

What color did she use? It doesn't look white but a nice cream color? I'm thinking about painting my bedroom furniture but don't want a stark white color.

Connie said...

Do you think she was sheepishly asking for your permision to remodel things? I find whenever my Dad is asking it's more because he isn't sure he should change anything ... for memories sake. She did great! Can't wait to see more of her projects. Maybe she should write a blog feature from time to time. Just a thought. :)
