If I haven’t shouted it from the rooftops enough by now, you should know that I have a love affair with laundry rooms. Don’t believe me? Check here, here, and here. I do not, however, have a love affair with laundry. It’s more of a love/hate relationship. It loves to haunt me, and I hate to address it.
As I take you on a tour of gorgeous laundry rooms, I figure I’ll ask you for your tips, advice, guidance, and cleaning ladies’ numbers.
Imagine you have at least two kids, a husband who changes clothes an average of three times a day (he’s high maintenance), and you work full time. Throw in a big ol’ slobbery, hairy dog who you compulsively pick up after, and you’ve pretty much got my laundry situation.
To be fair, I do have some semblance of order. Each of us has a basket like the one below that “we” are responsible for. The basket gets filled, brought down, washed, etc. and put away by it’s respective owners. Yet, I’m still drowning in clothes.
I can’t talk through this one. A moment of silence for its beauty, please.
One of my absolute favorite laundry rooms. I think I could actually replicate this pretty closely if I could ever get past all the clothes in mine.
So here’s my question for you. You have it figured out, right? What’s your secret? Do I have to do laundry every single day in order to remain afloat? Tell me…errr…us your cure-all for this absurd chore, and we will forever be indebted to you.
SAS Tomorrow, and you are NOT going to want to miss this giveaway!
I wish I could tell you all the sources for the pictures. I collect these because I’m weird, and I didn’t save the link. So Sorry!

I hate laundry, too. We have a laundry shoot and no one seems to be able to open it up and put their laundry down it.
Laundry is a chore I don't mind. Mine is the floors-blech.
I've found what works for me is keeping a running "laundry basket" actually in my washer. When the kids strip for the bath, their clothes go straight in the machine (unless they're white, I do do whites sep.). I end up doing a load about every other day, I think? Of course, it doesn't work like this all the time. When I get behind, I try to just wash/dry all I have at once, then dump everything on my bed and fold while watching something on tv.
good luck! those were beautiful rooms!
Morning load and evening load with a few extra on the weekend usually keep us afloat
I love laundry rooms too. I was so excited when we moved to our current house because there is a real laundry room. My old house had the washer and dryer in the garage. After washing, drying and folding every single article of clothing we own today I'm sorry to say I have no advice on how to take care of it efficiently. We obviously don't do it until we are out of clothes.
I used to do laundry daily until I got the Whirlpool Duet. Now I do bigger loads every few days. I am always in laundry hell though and it makes me crazy!
I have the same relationship with laundry: Love it when it's done, hate it when the piles are staring my in the face.
I think I have tried everything. I've tired a load a day - hated that it felt like I was always doing laundry.
Now I have a laundry day for all clothes(Monday) and a laundry day for towels and bedding (Friday).
Love my new system. Hope you find something that works for you.
My secret is putting 3 laundry baskets on the closet floor in each bedroom (whites, darks, lights), then clothes are automatically sorted after showers or at bedtime. The nightmare for me is putting it away again!
Monday and Thursday are laundry days no matter what (2-3 loads of everyone's stuff together, sorted roughly by color). I do towels separately on Wednesdays, and sheets when the mood strikes. This works for me and keeps me from feeling like I'm always doing laundry.
I don't dislike laundry. I think the machine does the work. Folding laundry is done in front of the TV if possible. I do one load Mon-Sat. with one extra in there for sheets or towels. My teens do their own laundry.
I have done several different systems but nothing I stick with and I, too, am drowning in my clothes. I'm hear to read :)
I definitely don't have it down, but I DO have to do laundry every day. I have a husband who wears two pairs of clothes a day (work clothes and regular clothes), a dog, and four kids, including a four months old. It's seriously NEVER ending!
My problem isn't doing it - its folding it. UGH!!! I hate folding laundry so much! We end up digging things out of baskets so much I don't know why I even have dressers! I have no solutions!
don't seem to have laundry problem but I am not sure what works for me would work for others...
We have five in our family so each one of us is assigned a laundry day. The youngest one on Monday, then the second youngest then the oldest on Wednesday. Mine is on Thursday and hubby's is on Friday. I am only responsible for the baby and my laundries (and rags). The children do their own laundries. They started to do laundry since they were three so yeah, laundry is not a big chore to them. My hubby happens to be one of those strange people who likes to do his own laundry. It is completely fine with me. :)
Oh, almost forgot to say - laundry in our house means wash, dry and put away (their bedding is washed weekly) I think I have posted about the laundry topic last year in my blog...
Hope you will find a system that works with your family! :)
I do the laundry mostly on Sundays. Once a week, all day long. 3 boys and myself. I get everyone to take up their clothes when they go upstairs, and hopefully they get put away. We live in a condo where out washer and dryer is in the kitchen, which is a love hate realtionship. Ahh what I would give to have a laundry room!!! Thanks for the eye candy.
There's three of us in this household, and a cute old Pug. But our daughter is on a swim team and I have a towel a day for that and a towel a day from her bathroom. So I have set Wednesday's as wash day, and Tuesday's I do towels and sheets.
The only thing that works for me is to have a deadline that any loads started that day MUST be folded and put away before going to bed that night (including any ironing if needed). That way the dirty laundry can start collecting in the baskets right away instead of in piles while clean laundry hogs the baskets :)
If my laundry room looked like any one of those laundry rooms pictured - i might actually have a new found love for the laundry chore! We have a laundry shoot on both floors and I seem to be the only one to use it! Then I get to spend a few hours a week doing the laundry in a boring basement! So jealous of those beautiful laundry rooms!
My kids do their own laundry. As soon as they were old enough to sort it, they were in charge of doing it. If they don't have enough for a full load, they combine with someone else. I wash their towels, but they change their own sheets and so they wash them, too. They have at least two sets of sheets and we keep them in their rooms. My husband will throw in a load of laundry if he needs something in particular to be washed. Otherwise, I do it. We don't have set days, but hogging the washer and dryer all day Saturday is frowned upon. My older kids have actually thanked me (once they were on their own) for making them do their own laundry. Too many of their roommates had no clue how to do laundry~or much of anything.
I hear your pain! I have my husband and 2 girls, my husband changes 2 or 3 times a day and refuses to wear jeans more than once, even if he only wears them for an hour :( I also work full time and can never seem to stay on top of it. I try to do a load every day and towels twice a week and whites once a week. I have begged/pleaded for help and I get clothes put in the washer and that's it...so I have no advice! Good luck and let me know if you find a system that works!
I pretty much hate ALL chores, haha! But I do despise laundry.
One thing that has helped me is to have 3 separate baskets:
Basket #1: Clothes that MUST be hang-dried {jeans, collared shirts, half of my husband's clothes ~ he is VERY picky}
Basket #2: Hots {gym socks, undies, husband's undershirts}
Basket #3: Colds {everything else, plus sheets, tablecloths, etc.}
Hope that helps! :)
I don't like laundry either but it's mostly because my washer and dryer are in my 1850 cellar. I mean dungeon-like!!! I would some day like a first floor laundry room. That would make it a lot more tolerable!!
I found the post: http://ourlives09.blogspot.com/2009/04/fly-day-20.html
Also, correction on the age I started training my kids. It is five year-old for the laundry and three year-old for bed making.
I too love laundry rooms. If I had one like that I am sure I would be able to get my laundry done. NOT. I hate, hate doing laundry. It isn't so much the sorthing since, as other have suggested, I too have a basket system in the closet. Darks, Jeans, white, unmeantionables, and towels. Yes all those baskets :) I work so laundry is a weekend task. It is the actually taking out of the dryer part that I seem to struggle with. I hear the beep, think oh I will get them in a minute and Monday morning rolls around and I digging through the dryer to find a pair of pants. Thanks for the wonderful laundry room pictures. I really like the last one I wonder if I could get my hubby to build me something that raises the washer and dryer up with a top like that one. Probably not. Maybe I should do it myself
one load a day - sometimes two - seems to keep us on track
I wish mine looked like one of these laundry rooms, but it doesn't! I can get them washed, it's the ironing that has to be done that I can't seem to get to!
I only have one child. My husband and I both wear uniforms to work and we rewear lots of our clothes. We usually use one towel a week each. I do about 3 to 4 loads of laundry once a week. That's it.
Those laundry room are gorgeous & I'm pretty sure that if I had one I'd love laundry a little more. I start my laundry routine on Sat. am... kiddos bring their sheets downstairs... the goal for Saturday is to get all the sheets and towels washed. Sunday the goal is to watch all 3 kiddos clothes so they are ready for the week. Monday the goal is to wash my clothes and the whites. Usual on Wed or Thurs I do another load or odds and ends plus the sport uniform that needs to be washed before the next game.
Also our laundry room is downstairs - I bought 3 small round laundry baskets that are on the counter in the laundryroom... one for colors, one for white and one for towels... it helps with the kiddos sorting to the right basket at least for the items that get taken off downstairs, for whatever reason.
We have 3 baskets but Im in the same boat as you. We both work full time and there are 3 kiddos. It seems like we can be caught up one day, and the next day, it's all dirty again. Our baskets are "regular" wash, whites/gentles and towels. We wash the whites/gentles seperate, of course, just dont have room for 4. Im trying to teach my 8 year old, and he helps some.
I am BLESSED to be able to stay at home with my two little kiddos, while my hubbs works his biscuits off. About 2 months ago, after an incredibly busy weekend, I came up with the ingenious idea of 'Pajama Monday.' My girls and I stay in our 'jams ALL DAY and get our chores done. Laundry included. I am able to get all of our clothes washed and put away. I love our new tradition.
I was hopping you'd post a picture of a laundry room with black and white checkered floors.
What I do is wait for my mom to call and ask if she can help me that day. I say yes, my dad comes over and I bag up every dirty item of clothing in my house and she washes it all for me and it smells all yummy like it did growing up.
I'm only kindof joking. That has happened...most of the time my situation is piles everywhere. Maybe with a baby hiding in there somewhere.
I wish I could help you with this one but I do laundry every day. If I miss a day I am behind. However, I am a wierd one in the fact that I love folding laundry, so it's really not a big deal for me. Towels is the biggie here. I do a load just about everyday. It's crazy!!
Just a Girl, Since my kids (3) each have laundry hampers in their closets, I wash each child's clothes on a different day and they are responsible for putting it away. I also have a day for mine and the spousal unit (same day). I even have an ironing day each week, if I don't keep on the schedule it will eat me alive.
Curse you, laundry!
Love the pics! Very nice.
You are my soul sister! I have the same relationship with laundry and laundry rooms. I have found that if wash, dry and put away alteast one load of laundry everyday it doesn't get out of hand. The problem is once I get behind I dread tackling the laundry pile.
Ugh.. I feel ya... I did a similar post and asked for tips too... Maybe you can find some advice that will help? http://bunchofscrap.blogspot.com/2010/04/laundy-day-is-everyday.html
i have the same love/hate relationship with it as you do...i don't mind doing it, but i am doing it all of the time...all of the time!
i do it every day i feel like...this week i think i will do almost 20 loads and it is only monday! tomorrow i have 3 or 4 to do, which is crazy. i have a system or i try to have one.
mondays-sheets/towels
tuesday-girls stuff
wed.-towels if i didn't do them mon.
thurs.-our clothes

weekend...i try to take off!
My washer and dryer are in my master closet. It is fabulous to pull it off and put it straight in the machine. It really rocks. I'll email you a photo...it is amazing!
Can't stand laundry but like the photos.

I tend to keep one basket in the bathroom and one in each bedroom. When 1 basket is full, they all get separated and washed. Then, in order to keep things folded, I have racks by the dryer (I hang most things since hubby can't keep things folded) and fold it right from the dryer...or else it doesn't happen! I also refuse to put away any clothes except for the baby's stuff. We seriously head to the basement everyday to get dressed. It just works out best for us.
Here's my secret to conquering laundry once and for all: the children grow up and leave, sweet husband figures out how this laundry thing works and now whenever a load needs to be done - either one of us will wash it, dry it, fold it put it away.
Unfortunately, the key to all of this is that the children grow up and leave. Until then, good luck.
I call laundry the bane of my existence too. funny. Laundry, however, isn't. I wish I had a system, other than making sure the kids have 10days worth of clothing and 2x that of underwear. I hate doing laundry because it is an all day event that seems to stretch to 2 days. 9 loads/week seems ridiculous for just 4 people. I thought I'd enjoy it more when I got an actual laundry room upstairs where all our bedrooms are, but I can't say that is the case. My back is happier I don't have to lug the baskets up and down the stairs anymore. I do like being able to pile all the dirty laundry on the floor and shut the door. Please share if someone gives you the magic answer to the laundry dilema.
I spend the entire day on Sunday doing laundry so I can get it all done. Then I air dry Sunday and Monday and put it all away on Tuesdays. I hate the huge pile of doing it all at once, but it's easier for me to do it in one big chunk than a little every day.
I try to do laundry on the weekends but usually I end up leaving a load in the washer all wet and then have to wash it again because it sits for 2 days.
I do a white load every morning and a dark load every night. But, I am the weird one who actually LIKES doing laundry. I so want one of those laundry rooms you pictured. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I am swamped in laundry all the time. My poor little laundry room just can't keep up. My husband works construction and my 3 year old DD is just a mess in shoes. Thankfully the 3 month old doesn't do to much damage yet but I know it's coming. Blah for all the laundry.
It's just me and hubby here, so what works for me most likely won't work for you. I do laundry once a week on Monday (sometimes it gets pushed to Tuesday if I have other things going on). I only have 3 loads of laundry plus one load of bedding, so it really doesn't take that long. I hope you find a solution that works for you. :-)
I was just having this exact same conversation with a friend this morning:) Before I had #3 I was able to keep up with the laundry, but for some reason that one extra little person makes the laundry seem impossible!
I try to throw in one or two "easy" loads during the week. Like jeans, pants, sheets or towels. I fold them right after the kids go to sleep. This helps a lot! I can only DREAM of having a laundry room like the ones you pictured as my current one is a closet :-(

I also have 2 kids, a big hairy dog, and a husband but laundry isn't a problem for me. Sunday mornings I gather it all together and sort while watching HGTV, then I start the first load and keep it flowing throughout the day. I think it helps that we have a 2nd floor laundry room, where the bedrooms are, so there's no running up and down stairs. At the end of the day everyone puts away their own basket. Hope this helps!
Ah, I solved the problem by makin' eveyone in my family do their OWN laundry, fold and put it away and that includes my husband. It really has saved my sanity.
Every Tuesday, I do towels and sheets.
Works every time. :)
I wash a load when I get up and toss it in the dryer when it's done. I come home at noon and flip loads and I usually do a load at night, too. My problem is putting stuff away! I can fold it but putting away is a different story. Ugh!
I'm with you on hating laundry. Between a husband that also changes his clothes several times a day, two toddlers, a dog and a big bird I get buried in laundry quite easily. I have to do at least a load each day in order to almost keep up. I’ve learned if I try to do more than one it usually ends up staying in the washer overnight and I have to rewash it the next day anyways.
To top it off I absolutely hate my laundry room. It has 3 different types of flooring with no rhyme or reason! I think I’ve got my husband convinced that if he lets me rehaul my laundry room to something I love that I’ll be able to keep up & enjoy the dreaded chore :) Whatever it takes to get it redone!
I have perpetual laundry at my house. It's never done (unless we're leaving for vacation - that's the one time it is all done). It seems like it's always a one step forward, two steps back kind of process. IF by some chance I'm close to having a dirty-laundry-free state of Zen going, there is another dirty pile to greet me upon putting away my last load.
But, I know I wouldn't loathe it quite as much if I had one of the laundrilicious rooms you showed here!
I don't mind laundry. My biggest issues is just finishing what I started. I save laundry for one of my days off. It's just my hubby and me, and it's not a huge issue. I use 2 towels (one for hair and one for body) for a couple days, and my husband does the same. He uses up white t-shirts and white socks like crazy, and I use up my work pants/skirts pretty quick too. But still with just the 2 of us... once a week is fine. I often just forget the dryer is done, and then I need to re-fluff the goods.
I used to do laundry once or twice a week, but with 4 kids, a husband, and a dog, it was always stacked high to the ceiling. It would get so overwhelming that I would avoid and it really started to make me depressed. So, as much as I detested the idea, about three years ago I decided that I HAD to do laundry once a day. And I haven't looked back since. I don't love it by any means, and I do resent it a bit that it's part of my life every single day, but I resented it a heck of a lot more when I was smothered mountains of clothes and my family had nothing to wear. On the days I'm away from home I wake up early and throw a load in and fold it before I go to bed at night. I do two loads a day, sometimes three if I have sheets and towels. Sometimes it helps to remind myself that it's a blessing to have the clothes and a machine that can clean them. I'd rather have it this way than cleaning my family's potato sack clothes on a rock down by the river.

I always did Laundry on Sundays, from the time I moved out of my house until recently. No laundry was cleaned unless it was on Sunday, I was anal about it. Then my Dad moved in with us and he cannot stand loads of laundry waiting for Sunday so he does the laundry now. I no longer have to deal with it, so yay for my Dad being more laundry anal than I am!
I just did a post asking for input on how my readers did their laundry too. Because I needed a huge laundry system overhaul. The comments are worth reading thru. . lots of good ideas. I want to do a post where I recap what everyone wrote. . but have not gotten to that yet. The big thing I gained for my readers comments that has saved me tons of time is I no longer sort my clothes by color before I wash them (gasp!) I could not believe it and I thought the clothes would be ruined for sure. . nope!! They turned out just fine!! here is the link to that post. . read the comments if interested:

I look forward to seeing what your readers write too.

I have the laundry situation figured out in my house - My husband does it!! Seriously! Please don't hate me :) I hate to do laundry but I sure was excited when we bought our front loaders when we moved into our house. I guess I was excited for him.
I have 2 3-part laundry sorters with the following categories: whites, light colors, dark colors, reds, denim and towels. Whenever one of the bins gets full, I do that load. It's cut my laundry time in half!
I try my best to buy "dry clean only" clothing.:O)
You think I had to take my laundry down to the rocks the way I complain and procrastinate when it comes to doing the laundry! Yuck, my least favorite chore!
I'll be keeping my eye on the feedback for advise too.
I don't find laundry too bad - I love the smell of clean clothes. BUT my laundry room is crowded and cramped and we have no budget to improve it to make it easier. I do laundry once a week (I'm s SAHM), and that means I get it over and done with. Though, once my yard is done, I am hoping that I can get a clothesline - then I'll have to do it daily.
I do laundry one day of the week- Tuesday. Everyone brings their baskets of dirty to the laundry room and I wash and fold it. Everyone takes their baskets back to their rooms and puts it away- correctly or lose privileges. It is not my favorite thing to do but not my least either. I do it on Tuesday because when I worked full-time, Tuesday was my day off. It has just stuck.
I don't know if you've seen this post- but I thought it was interesting and helpful.

I do not have kids yet- but I'm from a family of 6 kids. Once I hit 7th grade, I had my own laundry day. Each of us (as we grew older) had a day of the week. I also had one day a week to make dinner, but that's another topic.
I hate laundry so I made mine look like a tiffany box so it would at least put a smile on my face since I have to be in there EVERYDAY! I just posted it yesterday. :)
XO

My laundry room is in my upstairs bathroom...LOVE it so much. No more running up and down stairs. Usually do a load in the morning and a load at night and folding in between. And I alternate between colors and whites...which ever color is up for washing, I just add them to the washer thru the day. This works for me. (-; And because the laundry room is in my bathroom, it is always neat and tidy.
iHATE DOING Laundry, so I decide i finally needed to find a system that works for me. I do laundry only 2 days a weeks. On monday and friday! I make it a point to get it done all in that day, what gets dirty on those days Iam doing laundry have to wait until the next wash day! I posted something about doing laundry on this blog www.foodfuncreativenessandgardening.blogspot.com
I would do laundry every day if I had that first laundry room with all the gorgeous windows!!!
I don't really like laundry, but I find it more manageable if I do a little bit at a time. I have a 3 bag organizer thingy and everyone in my family, thanks to lots and lots of threats of bodily harm, seperates their clothes into whites, darks and lights. Then when one of the bags is full, I wash, dry, fold and put it away. It works for me! Hope you find something that works for you!
Doing laundry is one of my least favorite activities.
There are only the two of us and I still get behind. Some of it I'm sure is the fact that my laundry room is tiny and there is no space to to anything. Oh well.
There will always be laundry.
Melinda
I don't mind doing laundry BUT I have a brand new W&D that I love. I also made mine a place that I don't mind going in. I painted it, hung a great picture that I love, and put lamps in there. I is just warm and inviting. You can read about it on my blog.
I would also do it a few times a week to keep it up. Just my two cents.
I thought moving to our new home that has a huge laundry room would be the solution to my laundry problems, but it hasn't been. I even did a laundry room makeover and love it, but it still does not get me in there enough. I just can not manage to hang and fold the clothes and get them back to there proper place. I feel like every time I try to fold clothes the two year old undoes it. Currently the couch in my bedroom is stacked a mile high with clothes. At least they are clean ones though.
I want to make a couple of these to go in my room to sort laundry with. Thanks for all the great tips!
I've had a long running love/hate relationship with laundry. The key I've found, is to figure out what system works best for you & your family household. My biggest laundry speed bumps personally are sorting & folding clean laundry from the dryer when more than one family members' laundry is in a single load. IMO laundry is something everyone should learn to do for them self. (Our kids r 13, 10, 9, 8 & 2 mos')
What's worked best for us is to have a day of the week assigned to each family member. On the night b4 their day, bring down their hamper of dirty clothes from their bedroom. I started training my kids early. We have whites/lights & brights/darks (2) hampers in the laundry room we sort laundry into. Their hamper goes bk to their room. First thing the next morning they/I (age/ability dependent) strip their sheets and start their first load. Then usually before they leave for school their second load goes into the washer. I finish the loads: hanging/folding straight from the dryer. After school/b4 bed they put their clean laundry away & remake their bed. Bedding is usually tossed in with DH's. I add a load or two of towels to my day. Functionality rules over form when it comes to hampers & laundry baskets for us. It's cheap white sorting hampers & round baskets that stack easily.
I created a laundry schedule out of desperation. I do laundry twice a week, at least 4 loads each time. My washer and dryer are in the basement, so I bring it up and fold it in the living room. If I fold and put away while supervising homework, it works out. I must sort though. I couldn't imagine dingy whites. This from a woman with dust bunnies breeding in the corners....
I am NOT LYING when I say I went to a hypnotist to rid me of my distain for laundry! So, I feel your pain. My best plan of attack is to throw a load into the wash as soon as I get home. It washes while I prepare dinner, dries in the evening and then I must fold/hang before I go to bed. PS: I don't have a laundry room but I think my laundry closet is brag-worthy.
I have some weird obsession with laundry rooms, too. I don't know why but I totally drool over pictures of laundry and mud rooms. Anyway, I don't mind laundry very much but because I line dry almost every piece of clothing, I can only do 1 or 2 loads a day which basically translates to doing laundry ALL.THE.TIME. The line drying is worth it (no wrinkles, no shrinkage, retains color) but seriously, I can't walk through the laundry room some days.
Laundry is not my favorite thing to do. And boy do I wish I had a beautiful laundry room like the pictures you have, wow.
My tip is that I like to fold the laundry when it is nice a warm, just out of the dryer. For some reason it is just nicer to fold, at least for me! Have a great day!
Funny ~ I have 7 loads waiting for me while I read blogs. Honestly, people live in this house so our laundry room is barely clean at any given moment.
I love looking at laundry rooms but mine is loathsome so I'm super excited about all of the pictures, particularly that lovely little job in teal and white!
We have a baby in cloth diapers who has a reflux problem and throws up massive quantities ALL the time. So I do a LOT of laundry. A LOT. I'm thinking my laundry room should be my next priority! :)
There are only 2 of us so we usually only do laundry once a week, but sometimes it can be left 2 or even 3 weeks. We seperate into whites, colours and darks. We infrequently use the drier, instead we use the maiden and on good weather days the washing line.
I'm always drowning in laundry and need serious help!! I like doing it...it is the putting away that is frustrating ;)
Check out www.flylady.com. Her system(s) REALLY WORK---if you work them! By having routines that fit my life and lifestyle, I have actually found more time to declutter and, best of all, craft!
You can do it-15 minutes at a time!
I enjoyed the beautiful laundry room pictures. Wouldn't it be glorious to have picture #1 with all the bright windows. I have to treck down two flights of stairs ( 2 story house)to do laundry in the dungeon! I do use 4 laundry carts with casters (from wal-mart)instead of baskets for sorting. I do good if I stay down stairs and get it done. It's leaving loads in there that is a problem for me. I think I would like a laundry room right by the bedrooms.
I have 4 kids, and each has its own basket where I put their clean, folded laundry. They are responsible for putting the laundry away neatly in their rooms. Saves me allot of time...except for the time my 3 yr. old couldn't remember where she put all her folded underwear. EVERY SINGLE PAIR was gone! We bought more, then of course found the undies with her "doll stuff." Now, we have a plethora of Dora undies!
I love to look at beautiful laundry rooms too...dread the chore. I have 4 children...I do laundry twice a week. My kids are in charge of separating all of their clothes and putting it all away once it cleaned. It helps a bit.
We have 3 baskets - whites, colours and darks and clothes get sorted as they are taken off. Once a basket is full it gets washed. Sheets are done on Tuesdays and towels on Wednesdays. I fold while watching TV and any ironing is done by hubby because he doesn't actually mind ironing.
The only chore i never liked was cooking and now I enjoy it. I love to clean ANYTHING, so laundry was never a problem. Due to a really difficult pregnancy Hubs took over the Laundry. Now the little one is 1 hubs still does the laundry. He usually sorts it and washes it at night time while watching his favorite game. I do the folding and everyone is happy.
I do a little laundry everyday. Upon rising I put a load in the washer. It's usually done by the time I get around to getting in the shower and then I put it in the dryer before I leave the house. When I get home I usually let it run in the dryer another couple of minutes to get the wrinkles out and then I fold it immediately (this way I don't ever have to iron). If needed I start another load before dinner, and then fold it before bedtime. I do feel like I am endlessly doing laundry. I do make sure to have 1 day a week off, everybody knows that it is Sunday. No cooking, cleaning or laundry for me that day-I need it for my sanity.
I visited a blog once where the mother had a "clean" laundry basket for each person in the household. Once things came out of the dryer she threw each item in it's respective owner's basket. Then that person was responsible for folding and putting away. I haven't ever tried this because my kids aren't old enough to fold laundry, plus I'm worried that it will just add ironing my husband's work shirts to my list of things to do, because he won't get them folded quickly enough. But it's an idea maybe worth trying none the less. Good luck!
I love laundry rooms too.

My friend's 4 person family has a group system. The 4-bin laundry hamper is in the upstairs bath. Every piece of laundry gets sorted into the bin EVERY DAY. Every day of the week a different load gets done- Monday is whites, Tuesday is reds, etc. Each person is responsible for the laundry one day of the week, and Mom does the towels on Friday. Each person is responsible for washing their own bedding. (Dad washes the parents' bedding.) This system has worked very well for their family, and no one ends up doing all of the laundry, or doing it all on one day. They always have clean clothing and towels on hand. I guess I should mention that the girls are both college students, but the family has been doing this for 15 years, since they were small.
Now you are making me jealous of those laundry rooms! I only have me and my husband and I sometimes wonder hwo I will do it when we have kids! lol but in the house I live in now the laundry is UPSTAIRS and I love it! I will miss it someday when I move. it's great...no carrying laundry baskets, I just fold the items in piles on teh floor and put them away!
I've started not folding the kids clothes. They just stuff them in their drawers roughly where they get all messed up anyways, right? If they want them folded, they can do it themselves. Saves me time, and they haven't even noticed or said one word about it!
First off. I LOVE your blog! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on "living life with style" with us. I had to laugh when I read the title. Laundry is almost every day! I made this video about how I feel about laundry a while back and thought it was appropriate!LOL!

By no means am I a laundry maven but what has helped me is reducing our clothes and sorting based on owner. I'll do whites as one big load though but since I hate it so much and the smell of bleach makes me gag, I've decided that I won't be buying anymore white clothes, not even socks! Once the ones I already have are kaput that's it! I prefer color anyway!
